Entries will be taken at Central Motors until about 3pm Thursday afternoon and limited late entries will be taken at the Cobley on Friday morning. It is easier to enter your exhibit before Friday as all you have to do is drop it off at the Cobley on Friday morning and then leave the stewards to do their work. Most entries need to be there by 10am and then the pavilion will be closed until judging is finished. The one exception is Junior Art. It needs to be at Central Motors no later than 12pm Thursday as junior Art is judged Thursday afternoon. If you get there after 12pm your art will not be judged. The fodder section this year will be on the stage in the Burdett Hall as the usual place for the fodder is full of overflow poultry pens. So all those entrants with bales of hay and growing samples take them to the Burdett for judging. Prime Sheep and Wool are also judged on Friday in their usual settings so organise your fleeces and lambs to see who comes out on top. On Saturday there are the Dairy Goats, Stud Cattle, Merino stud sheep, Australian & British Breed Sheep, Dog section. The vintage tractor pull, vintage cars & trucks, woodchop and displays from Friday events. The Dairy goats are well worth a look as they are milked at about 11am as one of the prize ribbons goes to the best udder. In the centre of the Showground there will be two hack rings and a breed ring for the horses while the Showjumping will be going all day through Under 13s to Open Power & Speed for the largest horses. Wood chop events will start in front of the main grandstand at about 11 where novices, and pro will compete and there will be a teams event thrown in as well. The Sports shear competition will show- case the districts best shearers and wool handlers. First place getters in the Open Shearing and Woolhandling will become NSW champions and as such be on the NSW teams for the Australian championships, so the competition in the Opens will be fierce. However the Sportshear is not just about speed but includes cleanness and no cuts in the Shearing. Only the best get on the Stat teams. The Show will be opened by Mr Tim O’Brien, Vice President of Agricultural Societies Council. This organisation oversees all the Show Societies in NSW. Tim is also on the Showgirl & Rural Achievers sub committees, whilst he also oversees the central Zone of the ASC wheat competition. The official part of the day will com- mence about 2pm, and Tim will open the Show and sash the Junior & Senior Showgirls. Entrants in this years junior Showgirl are: Lucy Elliot, Teyia Thornberry, Kate Beath, Katelin Small, Keira-Lee Whatman, Caitlin Walker, Penelope Whatman, Rosemary Wilson and Ashley Sevil. The entrants in Senior Showgirl are Kaila Miller, Jessica Frecklington, Andrea Davis and Jessica Jenkins. This looks to be a very hard choice for the judges. So everyone get their tickets before Thursday, as the secretary’s Office moves up to the Showground on Friday, and come and enjoy a wonderful night and Saturday of Canowindra’s best. Forget about that little football match at the MCG, its only a grand final after all. MENS CAKE CHALLENGE! Ok guys, you need to have your cake, ANY cake, baked and at the Cobley Pavilion by 10am FRIDAY 25 September. Remember, you can fill out your entry form at Central Motors this week from 9am-3pm daily. The recent Natural Horsemanship clinic held at Canowindra Showground, was a beautiful and sunny weekend. Participants and Fence-sitters alike gained valuable knowledge to improved their horsemanship skills. Wayne's style is relaxed and he works with everyone in turn, as well as in a group. The Fence-sitters have expressed their desire to be participants next time, and all were anxious to set a date for a follow up course which will be on 28-29 November. Please call Wayne or Jenny Caslick on 02 6844 6213 for more information.

Letters to the Editor...

If the two lads who found my new mobile on the street AND returned it are reading this: THANK YOU - for your honesty! It was a great encouragement to see young men who were willing to be so unselfish, when they had every opportunity to do otherwise. You guys are legends! Nerida Cuddy Canowindra I would like to congratulate all involved in the production of the Canowindra Public School Concert held last Wednesday night. It was an absolute credit to all involved, and we look forward to the one next year. Jodie Paton Canowindra

JIGZAG RETURN TO CANOWINDRA Sydney-based trio Jigzag are one of Australia’s favourite acoustic acts. Jigzag won The National Folk Award for “Best Live Act 2006.” It was great to experience the high powered energy again. Jigzag features Liz Frencham (double bass, vocals), Caroline Trengove (violin, flute, percussion, vocals) and Greg Bryce (guitar, vocals). They came armed with some new songs - welding them into an amalgam that traversed the ten year history of the group. The harmonies are rapturous and reflected the intimacy of three players that have spent ten years honing their under-standing and knowledge of each other. Jigzag have played all Australia’s major folk festivals and have featured at festi-vals in Finland, Denmark, the UK and Canada . Jigzag launched their fourth CD ‘In the Middle’ early in 2007, and their Live CD was voted Hottest Contempo-rary Folk CD 2006. As always the audi-ence was spellbound and demanded more and more - so at the first opportu-nity we have them back, appearing on 3 October at taste. Over two thirds of the tickets have already been sold, so get in early to make sure you experience the sublime sounds of Jigzag. Call 02 6344 2332

END OF TIGER SEASON The Tigers finished the 2009 season with a fast flowing game of football against the Peak Hill Roosters. The Tigers led throughout the match but went down when the Roosters kicked a field goal in the golden point period of the match. Before the game began the tigers ruled out a number of players with minor injuries, not wanting to risk them further, and showing great club spirit two of the injured players set off to do the first round of the raffle. At times the game lacked intensity but was still an exciting game to watch as both sides spread the ball and chanced their hand. Grant Cummins kick and chase was a great example of that. The Tigers raced out to lead 28-16, before the Roosters charged back aided by plenty of penalties to level it up at 28-28. The final ten minutes was frantic as both sides looked for the match winner, Rob Burn had a field goal charged down and as the siren sounded Canowindra crossed in the corner only to drop the ball. This sent the game into extra time. Canowindra received the ball first and went for an early try but lost possession on the halfway. The big Peak Hill Rooster forwards charged at the posts and half-back Nick Harris calmly potted a field goal to win. It was still a pleasing result for the Tigers. The tigers were a rabble at the end of 2008, and Coach Damian Kennedy has built the squad into a very competitive team in 2009. The club would really like to thank the entire town for their support in 2009. Great sponsorship and record crowds as the town really got behind the local based team. Hopefully all the young players will be back in 2010 to build on their achievements from this year Finally good luck to our first grade hockey team playing in the Grand Final at Cowra on Saturday.
