Results of the 6th Semi Annual Golf Tournament From the Links at Wentworth Golf Club in Tarpon Springs

The Florida AIHA held its 6th Semi Annual Golf Tournament at Wentworth Golf Club in Tarpon Springs, Florida on the Wednesday before the Conference. The course was challenging and all the teams had fun. The winning team consisted of a couple of experienced players with a previ-ous championship appearances — there is defi-nitely a pattern of winning here! The winning team was Brian Berke and Eric Berke.

The next Tournament will be held in September at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine. The event is revenue neutral for the Association yet reasonable for the players. If you enjoy sharing a good time with your fellow IHs this is an event you should participate.

We look forward to seeing you then!

There were two informative PDCs at the spring meeting with over 36 attendees enrolled in the two courses. Banks Clark, PE, CIH with Environment, Safety and Health, LC provided the morning PDC on the subject of Green Buildings. Thea Dunmire, JD, CSP, CIH with ENLAR Compliance Service provided the afternoon PDC on the subject of ethics for the industrial hygienist. Both courses were received with great enthusiasm by attendees. See below for pictures of the PDCs.

Our Spring AIHA Fl Conference was held on Friday, May 8, 2009 at the beautiful Sirata Beach Resort in St. Pe-tersburg, FL. The speakers for this event were absolutely fantastic! The information presented was informative and interesting, and are available for members to review on our AIHA Fl website. To kick off this conference on the right foot, Banks Clark, PE, CIH with Environmental Safety Health, LLC., presented information on “Green Buildings—Industrial Hygiene for the Future.” Following Banks was Thea Dunmire, JD, CSP, CIH, with ENLAR Com-pliance Services, whose presentation on “Professional Ethics for the Industrial Hygienist” was very energetic. James Preacher, with Capital Safety USA, provided a practical and instructive look into “Fall Protection and the New ANSI Standard”. Steve Levine, PhD, CIH, Emeritus Professor of Industrial Health, presented a “Tribute—a Photographic Essay’” from the Michigan School of Public Health. An “AIHA Foundation Update” was provided by Curtis Hintz, CIH, CSP. Rob Brauch of Larson Davis updated the attendees on “Vibration Analysis and Stan-dards.” John Henshaw of Henshaw and Associates presented the question “OSHA—Where Do We Go From Here?” and updated everyone on “Florida Taskforce on Workplace Safety.” Dr. Tom Bernard, CIH, of USF College of Public Health gave some very useful information concerning “Practical Heat Stress Program Management in Florida.” Our last speaker of the day was Dr. Robert DeMott, of Environ. Robert’s talk was about “Chinese Manu-factured Drywall.”

The Spring 2009 FL AIHA vendor night was a great success! Although vendor participation was down from previous conferences, we were pleased in this current economy to have 14 ven-dors supporting our conference!! In addition to many familiar faces, two new ven-dors participated. Vendor support of the confer-ence is a crucial aspect of our success. Their financial support allows us to keep registration fees within all our budgets. In addition to the delicious appetizers enjoyed by all, many of the attendees won door prizes provided by the ven-dors. The prizes ranged from gift certificates to popular logo hard hats. As you can tell from the pictures, it was a great networking opportunity and a fun social gathering!!

Please continue to support our vendors!! by Linda Boehmer, Conference Committee Chair
