1. Save your avatar appearance.

1. Save your avatar appearance

You are probably wearing the standard avatar you received when you signed up. You can change that later.

For now, let’s save that outfit, using your avatar name. See the next screen.

Place your cursor on your avatar; an icon appears

Click the menu, bottom right

Save your outfit under your avatar

You will eventually have a list of outfits, making it easy

to change

2. Set up your headset

right of the slide presentation

In CARMEN, watch the orientation

video in the “Resources” section

3. Review the interface

Watch the orientation video, posted in the “Resources” area of Carmen.

4. Use alt/zoom to focus

Hold down the alt (PC ) or option (Mac) key, and your cursor turns into a magnifying glass

Click on an object, and the viewer will focus on it

Use arrow keys to zoom and pan around.

5. Make a friend

Place your cursor on an avatar.

Click on the small “i” icon.

Choose “add friend” from the drop-down menu.

6. Send an IM

Place your cursor on another avatar. The “I” icon appears.

Choose “IM” from the drop-down menu.

7. Set a landmark

A landmark is like a browser bookmark. It helps you to go back to somewhere you’ve visited.

You can find landmarks by searching in

your landmarks folder:

8. Set home to here

In our classroom:

>> World >> Set home to here

To return to our classroom from anywhere in Second Life:

>> World >> Teleport home

(or: cmd/ctrl + shift + H)(or: click the home icon in the top menu bar)
