General
• Simply clean your CallerDisplay 1500 with a damp (notwet) cloth, or an antistaticwipe. Never use householdpolish as this may damage theproduct. Never use a dry clothas this may cause static shock.
• Do not open the Caller Display1500. This could expose youto high voltages or other risks.
• Never dispose of batteries in afire. There is a serious risk ofexplosion and/or the releaseof highly toxic chemicals.
Environmental
• Do not expose to directsunlight.
• We recommend thatyou do not place the producton antique/veneered wood toavoid damage.
• Do not stand your product oncarpets or other surfaceswhich generate fibres, orplace it in locations preventingfree flow of air over it’ssurfaces.
• Do not submerge any part ofyour product in water and donot use it in damp or humidconditions, such as inbathrooms.
• Do not expose your productto fire, explosive or otherhazardous conditions.

Setting up

Follow these easy steps to getyour Caller Display 1500 readyfor use.
Your Caller Display 1500 can bewall mounted, see page 28 forfurther instructions.
Position your Caller Display1500 close enough to a phonesocket for the cable to reach.
Do not stand it on carpets orother similar surfaces whichmight generate fibres. The twolegs located at the rear shouldbe pulled out one stop toprovide a more secure stand.
Do not cover or enclose themachine. Allow a free flow ofair to its surfaces.
1 Planning the location of yourCaller Display 1500
You will need 4 x AA Alkalinebatteries. (not included).
Open the battery compartmentat the back of your Caller Display1500 by pushing the batterycover off in the direction of thearrows, as shown in the diagram.
It is important to maintain thebatteries in your Caller Display1500. If the battery low iconappears on the display you willneed to replace the batteries.It is important to do this assoon as possible in order to

Warning
When replacing batteries rememberto disconnect the telephone line cordfrom the Caller Display base unit.
3 Connect your Caller Display 1500to the wall socket
Connect the telephone line cordsupplied into the back of yourCaller Display 1500 and theadaptor end into the telephonewall socket.
Battery low warning
When the batteries are nearing theend of their useful life the displaywill flash the battery low icon andshow CHANGE BATTERIES when inthe idle screen. The display will beblank if no batteries are fitted or if the batteries are completely flat.

4 Connect yourtelephone to theCaller Display 1500
To connect your phone to theCaller Display 1500, plug thetelephone line cord from yourphone into the socket locatedon the back of the adaptor.

You can set the wholetime and date manuallyif you wish to.
To choose between the12 or 24 hour clock:
Press the Menu/Exitbutton.
Use the Left/Rightbuttons to display thecurrent setting, either12 HOUR or 24 HOUR.
Press the Select buttonto change the currentsetting.
To set the time:Press the Menu/Exitbutton.
Use the Left/Rightbuttons to scroll to SET TIME.
Press the Select button.The display will flashthe hour.
Use the Left/Rightbuttons to set thecorrect hour.
Press the Select buttonto confirm.

Never install telephone wiringduring a lightning storm.
Always disconnect the telephonecord from the wall socket beforechanging or relocating yourtelephone connections.
Please note
Press the Menu/Exit button to enterthe menu or to exit and return to theidle screen.
The date and time willbe set automaticallywhen your CallerDisplay 1500 receivesits first call, providedyou have subscribed toa Caller Display service.
However, the servicedoes not set the year(this will default to 00)so you will have to setthis manually, see belowfor instructions.

You can adjust thecontrast on the displayto make the screenlighter or darker.
The levels range from1-8.
Press the Menu/Exitbutton.
Use the Left/Rightbuttons to scroll toCONTRAST.
Press the Select buttonto confirm.
The display will showthe current contrastlevel, for example 4.
Use the Left/Rightbuttons to adjust thecontrast to the level youwant. The Right buttonwill make the contrastdarker and the Leftbutton will make itlighter.

Your Caller Display 1500receives and displays callerinformation, which is transmittedover your telephone network.
Your Caller Display 1500 can:• Identify callers before you
answer the phone (providingthe number has not been withheld).
• Store the time and date ofeach incoming call.
• Save the last 60 incomingcalls in the Calls List.
• Store up to 70 names andnumbers in the Directory.
• Allow you to call back directlyfrom a received call or theDirectory.
To enable your Caller Display1500 to show this information,you will need to subscribe toyour network provider’s CallerDisplay service. A quarterly feeis payable.

Using the Calls List
Your Caller Display 1500receives, stores and displayscaller information automatically.This information includes acaller’s phone number, the dateand time the call was receivedand, any text messageassociated with that number.

Please note
Text accompanying the number fromthe network, e.g. RINGBACK will takeprecedence over Directory names.
The New Callsindicator light will flashto tell you that new callshave been receivedsince you last viewedyour Calls List.
As soon as you view thecalls list the New Callsindicator will go out.
The number of newcalls received will alsobe shown on the display.

Using your Caller Display 1500
If the name of the personcalling has been stored in yourCaller Display 1500 Directory,his or her name will bedisplayed in the Calls List.
A maximum of 60 calls can bestored. To make room for newincoming calls a new call willautomatically replace the oldestcall in the memory. Your CallerDisplay 1500 will store thecaller’s details whether the callhas been answered or not.
When a call is received, thedisplay will show the caller’sinformation for 20 seconds afterthe last ring.
Your Caller Display 1500indicates:
In the idle screen:Displays the day, time, date, the number of new calls and thenumber of total calls stored inthe calls list.
Use the Left/Rightbuttons to scrollthrough your Calls List.
Press the Select buttonto scroll down to the dateand time information.
If the length of thename or number islonger than the display,press and hold theRight button to scrollacross the screen.
To view the Calls List
Please note
Your Caller Display 1500 will storethe caller’s details whether the callhas been answered or not. This isshown in the calls list with theicon for answered calls.
• NEW Displays the number ofcalls that have not been viewedyet. NEW is not visible if all callshave been viewed. If you havereceived new calls since youlast viewed the calls list thenew call indicator will flash toindicate this.
• CALLS Displays the totalnumber of calls stored in thecalls list.
In the calls list:
Displays the caller’s numberand any text message associatedwith it. Also records the timeand date the call was received,and whether the calls wereanswered or not. See examplebelow:

Use the Left/Rightbuttons to scroll to thenumber you wish to call.
Press the Dial button.
The display will showCONNECTING and thedigits will scroll acrossthe screen as they aredialled.
The display will showLIFT HANDSET.
Lift the handset of thetelephone connected toyour Caller Display1500 within 6 seconds.
(If the handset is notlifted within 6 secondsthe call will be cancelled.)
When the handset islifted the display willshow PHONE IN USE.

Caller information notavailable
In this case, Caller Display 1500provides you with someexplanatory information aboutthe type of call you havereceived. This comes in theform of a text message and willbe one of the following:
INTERNATIONAL
Call received from outside the UK.
UNAVAILABLE
The caller’s exchange/network/switchboard does not operate aCaller Display service.
WITHHELD
The caller has not permitted hisor her number to be sent.
OPERATOR*
The call has been made via theoperator.
PAYPHONE*
The caller is ringing from apayphone.
RINGBACK*
The telephone number you haveset on Ring Back is now free toreceive your call.
NO NUMBER
See the Help section on page27. This message will not bestored in the calls list.
With some incoming calls thetelephone number of the calleris not available and cannottherefore be displayed on yourCaller Display 1500.
Please note
If you decide not to delete the entryor Calls List, wait 20 seconds untilthe display returns to the idle screen,or press the Menu/Exit button.
Press the Left/Rightbuttons until TOP OF
LIST or END OF LIST isdisplayed.
Press the Clear button.
The display will showCLEAR ALL? for 20seconds.

NUMBER and flashes thenumber 0.
Use the Left/Rightbuttons to scroll throughand enter the digits ofthe telephone number tobe stored. If you enter adigit incorrectly use theClear button. Press theSelect button to confirmeach digit when it isdisplayed.
When you have enteredall the digits, press andhold the Select button toconfirm. The displaywill show ENTER NAME
and flashes the letter A.
Use the Left/Rightbuttons to scroll throughand enter the letters ofthe name to be stored.
Press the Select buttonto confirm each letterwhen it is displayed.
When you have enteredall the letters, press andhold the Select buttonto confirm. The displaywill show SAVED toindicate that the name

Your Caller Display 1500 canstore up to 70 names andnumbers in its Directory. You canstore them yourself by manuallyentering the details or copy themfrom the Calls List (see ‘To copya stored number from the CallsList to the Directory’ on page 19).
When a call is received and thenumber corresponds to onestored in the Directory, thename of the caller will be shownon the display.
Using the Directory
* Some text messages can have numbersassociated with them. Your Caller Display1500 will display the text message abovethe telephone number.
Press the Menu/Exitbutton. The display willshow DIRECTORY.
Press the Select button.The display will showthe number of entriesstored, e.g. 10 ENTRIES
followed by ENTER

Use the Left/Rightbuttons to scroll to thefirst letter of the namewhich has been storedwith the number youwant and then press theSelect button.
Press the Select buttonto confirm. The displaywill show the first namestarting with the letteryou entered. (If noentries are found thedisplay will show NOTFOUND.)
Use the Left/Rightbuttons if necessary tofind the number youwant.

You can use your Caller Display 1500 asan alarm clock. It isalso possible to enter amemo message whichwill be displayed whenthe alarm goes off.
The memo could be a reminder to dosomething or callsomeone at the timethe alarm goes off.
To set the alarm

Press the Select buttonto confirm each letterwhen it is displayed.
When you have enteredthe whole memo, press and hold the Selectbutton.
The display will showSAVED to indicate thatthe memo, associatedwith the alarm set, hasbeen stored.

Your Caller Display 1500 isguaranteed for a period of 12months from the date ofpurchase.
Subject to the terms listedbelow the guarantee willprovide for the repair of, or atBT’s or its agent’s discretionthe option to replace the CallerDisplay 1500, or any componentthereof, (other than batteries),which is identified as faulty orbelow standard, or as a resultof inferior workmanship ormaterials.
The conditions of thisguarantee are:• The guarantee shall only apply
to defects that occur withinthe 12 month guaranteeperiod.
• Proof of purchase is provided.• The equipment is returned to
BT or its agent as instructed.
• This guarantee does not coverany faults or defects causedby accidents, misuse, fair wearand tear, neglect, tamperingwith the equipment, or anyattempt at adjustment orrepair other than throughapproved agents.
• This guarantee does not affectyour statutory rights.
Within the 12 monthguarantee period:If you experience difficulty usingthe product, prior to returningyour product, please read theHelp section beginning on page 27.
In the unlikely event of a defectoccurring, please return theproduct, with the receipt, to theplace of purchase.

No dialling toneMake sure your telephone linecord is plugged into the back ofthe Caller Display line cordadaptor and the adaptor isconnected to your wall socket.
Check that no other extensionis in use.
Display screen not workingproperly or goes blankCheck whether the batteries arefitted correctly.
The batteries might needreplacing.
Adjust the contrast on yourdisplay, see page 10.
Caller Display messages notbeing receivedTo be able to receive and displaycaller information, you mustsubscribe to a Caller DisplayService from your networkprovider. For more informationon BT’s Caller Display servicecall 0800 800 150.
Phone does not ringCheck that the ringer is notswitched off on the phone thatis connected to your CallerDisplay 1500.
Check that no other connectedphones are off the hook.
NO NUMBER on the displayYour Caller Display 1500 checksthe content of the caller messageit receives. If it detects a problemwith a message it displays NO NUMBER rather than riskleaving a message with a possiblemistake. This does not meanthat your telephone is faulty.
If you continually receive NO NUMBER, call BT free of chargeon 0800 800 150 for residentialcustomers or 0800 800 152for business customers, or yourservice provider.

If wall mounting your CallerDisplay 1500, use this guide forposition.
• Make sure that you are notdrilling into any hidden wiring.
• Drill two holes 25mm deepusing a 3mm drill, 94mmapart to take the wall plugs.
• Put wall plugs into the drillholes and then insert bothscrews. Leave 2-3mmbetween the head of thescrew and the wall.
• You are now able to mountthe Caller Display 1500 to the wall.
• Fit the Caller Display 1500onto the two screws by 1 pushing on and 2 droppingdown. If necessary, tighten or loosen the screws for thebest fit.
• The whole button panel canbe pushed back into anupright position if required,the panel will click intoposition.
• The line cord must beinserted into the cordchannel at the rear of theCaller Display 1500.
• Ensure the legs at the rearare secure in the recesses.
