2. AIM OF THE YSCJ SUMMER SCHOOL

Summer School 2016 aims to extract the essence of YSCJ and to offer transformational

experiences to our students through academic classes and activities that emphasize the

three strengths that we aim to nurture in our student.

1. Openess to Diversity

2. Agenda Setting

3. Ability to face challenges

Discussion-based courses are central to the Summer School program, in order to encourage student participation. The program is scheduled to offer academic subjects, special courses, and a variety of extracurricular activities and special event.

OPENESS TO DIVERSITY One of the most striking aspects that participants of YSCJ’s summer school experience is the exposure to a truly diverse community. The student body represents different countries, cultures, languages, religions, and family backgrounds. By living together in a residential environment, students can learn from each other the differences and similarities in perspectives that exist throughout the world. Through discussions and online simulations in the International Negotiation Program, students observe how their values compare to those of their peers, and learn to negotiate to achieve a goal. Everyone at YSCJ learns how building empathy and improving mutual understanding can lead to a better future for everyone in the world. AGENDA SETTING Do you have creative, new ideas? How would you express your feelings and thoughts in practice? YSJC will offer you ways to see the larger picture and to think across boundaries. Through our Design Innovation course, students learn not only to create solutions but also to define problems. You will learn how to identify problems that exist in the world around you, and unleash your creativity and strategic planning solutions in “design thinking” classes similar to those pioneered at Stanford University. The classes will allow you to experience first hand how creative solutions can grow from a combination of imagination and practical knowledge. ABILITY TO FACE CHALLENGES Our Leadership by Design program will provide opportunities for you to be responsible and make decisions, and help you learn how to set your mind to challenge yourself and not shy away from failure: workshops will encourage self-analysis and improve interpersonal skills; outdoor team activities will challenge and develop problemsolving skills; and student-initiated activities will provide opportunities for first-hand experience in real world leadership challenges.
