    families and communities have a responsi%ility towards maintaining their health"

     /ursing contri%utes to the health services in a vital and significant way in the health care

    delivery system" It recogni$es national health goals and is committed to participate in the

    implementation of /ational #ealth policies and programmes" It aims at identifying health needs

    of the people, planning and providing 8uality care in colla%oration with other health

     professionals and community groups"

    Scope of nursing practice encompasses provision of promotive, preventive, curative and

    reha%ilitative aspects of care to people across their life span in wide variety of health care

    settings" 4ractice of nursing is %ased upon application of %asic concepts and principles derived

    from the physical, %iological, %ehavioral sciences"

     /ursing is %ased on values of caring, and aims to help individuals to attain independence in self@

    care" It necessitates development of compassion and understanding of human %ehavior among its

     practitioners to provide care with respect and dignity and protect the rights of individuals 2

    groups"

    ndergraduate nursing program at the post %asic level is a %road %ased education within an

    academic framework, which %uilds upon the skills and competencies at the diploma level" It is

    specifically directed to the upgrading of critical thinking skills, competencies 2 standards
