2011 SEASON SCHEDULE

TO NOTE...IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS

Tennessee swept past Arkansas and LSU this past weekend to secure its fi fth SEC Championship in program history. With the two wins, Tennessee claimed at least a share of the SEC crown, but a victory on Wednesday over Kentucky would give the Big Orange its fi rst outright regular-season league title.

Tennessee has now won 11-straight matches, six of which have come on the road. Entering Wednesday, UT is a perfect 12-0 at home.

Last year, Tennessee won all but two home SEC matches in the friendly confi nes of Thompson-Boling Arena.

IN CASE YOU MISSED ITEntering the weekend with a one-game lead in

the Southeastern Conference, the No. 15 University of Tennessee Lady Vol volleyball team clinched at least a share of the SEC title with a pair of victories over Arkansas and LSU at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The Lady Vols (26-3, 18-1) have now won 11- straight matches for the second time this season, which ties for the fourth longest streak in UT history.

Friday, the Big Orange swept Arkansas, 25-21, 25-17, 25-21, as the squad hit .352 overall, while holding Arkansas to just a .149 percentage. Sophomore Kelsey Robinson and junior Leslie Cikra each tallied double digits in kills, while Cikra and fellow junior DeeDee Harrison hit over .500 in the match.

Two days later, the Orange and White registered their 13th sweep of the year, defeating LSU 25-19, 25-18, 25-15. Robinson registered her conference-leading 20th double-double, recording team highs in kills (16) and digs (13). Five Lady Vols hit .300 or better versus LSU, as the team hit at a clip of .415. For the weekend, freshman setter Mary Pollmiller assisted in 87 of UT’s 92 kills. Harrison and freshman Tiff any

Baker were forces on defense, as Harrison tallied 11 blocks against the weekend opponents, while Baker added nine.

KENTUCKY AT A QUICK GLANCEPrior to its loss at Kentucky in October, Tennessee

had defeated the Wildcats in five consecutive matches, including downing UK on ESPNU a year ago in Knoxville. Prior to UT winning the last fi ve of six matches versus the Wildcats, Kentucky defeated the Big Orange in fi ve straight, spanning from 2006-08.

This season Kentucky has dropped a pair of conference matches, both on the road, to Florida and Mississippi State.

THE SEC (HISTORICALLY SPEAKING)Tennessee has won at least 15 SEC matches each

of the last four seasons, as the Big Orange already tallied 18 conference wins this year with one match remaining.

With its 18th regular-season SEC victory last weekend, the team shattered its record for most conference wins, which was previously set in 2009 at 16.

Rob Patrick is 162-91 in his career in the SEC. In 13 of his 15 seasons, he led the Lady Vols to a .500 or better record against the conference. In 2004, Tennessee stormed through the league with a 15-1 record, tying for fi rst in the SEC and winning the Conference Tournament a week later.

Those wishing to attend a match are asked to call the Media Relations Offi ce to be placed on the pass list. Photo credentials will be issued only to accredited photographers or those individuals on special assignment. Because there are specifi cally designated areas for photographers, we ask that anyone shooting a Lady Vol volleyball match at Thompson-Boling Arena check with Todd prior to the start of the contest.

RADIO Thompson-Boling Arena is available for radio broadcasts through UT Telephone Services. In order to access these lines, those interested in broadcasting a particular match need to inform the UT Athletics Media Relations Offi ce in writing at their earliest convenience and no later than three weeks prior to the contest. Radio stations also will need to contact UT Telephone Services at (865) 974-3121 to order a telephone line for use at the contest(s).

STATISTICAL SERVICES Services provided include statistics generated from the StatCrew computer program. Match statistics will be handed to all attending members of the media and sports information personnel after every game. Following the conclusion of the match, fi nal statistics will be faxed/emailed to the visiting sports information director’s fax/email list. Results will also be emailed to the sports information contact of visiting teams at the conclusion of the match in lieu of a sports information representative traveling with his or her team. Arrangements should be made in advance for any additional services.

INTERVIEWS Interviews will be available following the match after a 10-minute cooling-off period. Media wishing to interview the coaches or any players other than on game days are required to set up interviews with 24 hours notice through Todd Mounce in the UT Media Relations Offi ce.

ALAN EDWARDS /// ASSISTANT COACHIn July, former Iona College head coach Alan Ed-

wards joined the UT staff as the team’s new assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

“I am very excited about adding Alan to our coaching staff ,” Patrick said. “He brings a wealth of volleyball experience, both as a head coach and as-sistant coach from a number of Division-I programs, and is someone who I feel will be able to assimilate himself into our team very quickly.”

Edwards was most recently the head coach at Iona for the past fi ve seasons, where he led the Gaels to a 75-79 overall record and four appearances in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships.

During his time in New Rochelle, Edwards men-tored one of the top defensive players in NCAA history in Allison Neiters. One of the top volleyball performers in Iona College and MAAC history, she shattered the Iona and conference career record for digs with 2,682, the fi fth highest all-time total in the NCAA.

Neiters was named the 2007 and 2008 MAAC De-fensive Player of the Year and 2009 MAAC Libero of the Year, as well as the league’s Defensive Player of the Week 17 times during her career. She was also a three-time MAAC All-Academic Team and MAAC Honor Roll member, two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and earned Iona’s Academic Merit Award for holding a 3.50 or above grade point aver-age.

RACHEL COOPER /// ASSISTANT COACHAfter a standout career at Mississippi State as a

player and coaching the past three seasons as an as-sistant at ETSU, Rachel Cooper joined the Tennees-see staff in May.

Prior to her time as an assistant coach at ETSU, Cooper served as a graduate assistant with the Buc-caneers, where she assisted in recruiting and coordi-nated team travel and community service.

“The thing that most impresses me about Rachel is her work ethic,” Patrick said. “I’ve gotten to know her in recent years when she has come to work our camps and I am very excited that we have been able to add her to our coaching staff . She has experi-ence in recruiting and understands the day-to-day responsibilities involved with running a high-level volleyball program.

“Rachel was also an outstanding player in the SEC and knows exactly what it takes to be successful at the highest level in our conference. Her personal-ity is very engaging and inviting, and I expect that our players will be able to easily relate to her.”

A Roscoe, Ill., native, Cooper was a four-year let-ter winner and starting outside hitter for the Missis-sippi State Bulldogs. A two-year captain and team Most Valuable Player, Cooper was also the fi rst Bull-dog athlete ever named SEC Player of the Week. She fi nished her career third all-time in kills with 1,405.

COACHING STAFF

Two-time National Coach of the Year Rob Patrick has developed a tradition of excellence since com-ing to Tennessee 15 years ago. Following his arrival at Rocky Top, Patrick has become one of the nation’s top coaches and helped the Lady Vols attain levels of success never before reached in Knoxville, as evidenced by NCAA Tournament berths in six of the last seven years, including a run to the Final Four in 2005. His nine-year stretch of winning seasons from 1998-2006 marks the longest-such run in program history, topping the previous high of seven, set from 1978-84. The Big Orange has won 20 or more match-es in eight of the last 10 campaigns. Prior to Patrick’s

arrival at UT in 1997, the Lady Vols last recorded a 20-win season in 1988.

Patrick joined the UT program in July of 1997 after spending the previous three seasons as an as-sistant coach with national powerhouse Stanford. From 1994 to 1996, he helped lead the Cardinal to a combined 92-6 record and two NCAA champion-ships, including title-game victories over UCLA and Hawaii in 1994 and 1996, respectively.

During that stint, Stanford never lost a home match en route to participating in the 1995 NCAA Final Four and winning three consecutive Pac-10 titles.

WHO’S BACK?Tennessee is returning three starters and a libero

from last year’s roster: juniors DeeDee Harrison and Leslie Cikra, sophomore Kelsey Robinson and sophomore libero Ellen Mullins.

Robinson was a SEC All-Freshman Team selection in her fi rst season with the Lady Vols at outside hitter.

Additional returners include sophomore setter Kylann Scheidt, senior setter Kelsey Mahoney and sophomore outside hitter Carly Sahagian.

WHO’S NEW?For one, most of the coaching staff is new. Patrick

JETER OUT FOR SEASONSenior leader Kayla Jeter will miss the entire 2011

season with a knee injury, associate athletics director for sports medicine Jenny Moshak reported.

Jeter suff ered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee at team practice Aug. 19. Recovery time is estimated between six and nine months.

Jeter enjoyed her best season as a junior in 2010, earning first-team All-SEC and AVCA All-America honorable mention honors. The Solon, Ohio, native ranked second on the squad with 340 kills (2.98/set) and led UT with 19 solo blocks.

SEC COACHES’ SURVEY SAYSThe Southeastern Conference coaches selected

Tennessee to fi nish second in the Eastern Division, and they picked up two votes to win the SEC regular-season title. Florida got nine votes.

THE FIRST MEETING VS. KENTUCKY- 10/12/11 LEXINGTON: The No. 18 University of Tennessee Lady Vol volleyball team did its best to subdue a rowdy crowd of 1,959 rowdy Kentucky fans, but came up just short, falling in fi ve set, 24-26, 26-24, 20-25, 26-24, 13-15, to No. 25 UK in a match televised nationally by ESPNU at Memorial Coli-seum. Three Lady Vols recorded double digits in kills, as Kelsey Robinson led the way, recording a double-double with 19 kills and 15 digs. Along with Robin-son, junior DeeDee Harrison slammed down 15 balls and fellow junior Leslie Cikra tallied 11 kills. Sophomore Ellen Mullins totaled a career-high 31 digs, which at the time, was the most in an SEC match this season. After the two teams split four incredibly close frames to open the match, it became a race to 15 in the fi fth and fi nal set. Down 12-9, UT rallied to tie the match at 12. UK would go on to score the next two, but a Cikra kill cut the defi cit to one, 14-13. The ensu-ing UT serve had too much adrenaline and landed just long, giving UK the set win and the match.

KENTUCKY- 9/29/10 KNOXVILLE: Playing in front of a nationaltelevision audience on ESPNU, the 23rd-ranked Ten-nessee volleyball team made quick work of a Ken-tucky squad that had been ranked in the nationalpolls, downing the Wildcats, 25-22, 25-15, 25-22, infront of 1,126 rowdy fans at TBA. Kayla Jeter led a three-pronged attack for theLady Vols, recording a match-high 13 kills and a career-best 13 digs for the fi rst double-double of hercareer. DeeDee Harrison reached double-digits inkills as well, hitting a stellar .444 with 10 putaways,in addition to blocking a match-high four Wildcatattacks.

- 11/24/10 LEXINGTON: The No. 21 University ofTennessee volleyball team fi nished off the 2010regular season with an impressive sweep, downing ahot Kentucky team that had won six of its last sevenmatches, 25-22, 25-17, 25-21. Leading the Lady Vols off ensively was DeeDeeHarrison, who hit at a blistering .529 clip with a team-high 11 kills and just two errors on 17 swings Tennessee out-hit Kentucky, .210 to .095, and tal-lied 18 more kills, 47 to 29. The Lady Vols also out-dug the Wildcats, 55 to 41 and had nine blocks to UK’s eight.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS KENTUCKYKentucky wrapped up its regular season of

home action with a pair of wins over SEC Western leaders LSU and Arkansas. UK fi nished the season on a 17-match winning streak in the friendly confi nes of Memorial Coliseum. Kentucky needed a thrilling fi ve-set comeback eff ort to down the Razorbacks, led by its senior trio of Ann Armes, Gretchen Giesler and Becky Pavan.

UK improved to 6-0 on the year and 5-0 against league foes in matches that need five sets to determine a winner. Junior Stephanie Klefot notched 27 digs on the weekend to amass more than 500 for the season. She has now charted 500 or more digs in a season in back-to-back years. Kentucky will play Tennessee on Wednesday for the SEC Championship. The Lady Vols have clinched at least a share, but UK can also claim a portion with a win over the Lady Vols. With no SEC Tournament, a win over Tennessee would give UK the SEC’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament based on head-to-head matchups.

WE’RE ROLLING AGAIN!After a heartbreaking loss at No. 25 Kentucky in

a fi ve-set thriller on Oct. 12, the Wildcats ended the Lady Vols 11-match winning streak.

However, since that match, the Lady Vols have matched that run again, winning 11-straight matches, while also clinching at least a share of the Southeastern Conference Championship.

The UK loss ended UT’s streak of 11 straight SEC wins, which dated back to last season. This season, the 8-0 start by the Big Orange in league play tied for the best conference start in UT history.

Conference opener on Sept. 16, Tennessee Lady Vol head coach Rob Patrick recorded his 300th career win, all of which have come at UT.

Patrick now has the highest winning percentage of any UT volleybal coach (.675), along with the most victories (318).

WE DON’T MESS AROUNDBy notching their 20th win in just the 23rd match

of the year versus South Carolina on Sunday, the Lady Vols have made it to the 20 win milestone in the third fastest amount of time in Tennessee history. The 1973 team won their fi rst 20 in a row, while the 2004 squad reached 20 wins in 22 matches.

HOME SWEET HOMEThe Lady Vols have had a lot of success this season,

no matter what town or venue they are playing in.However, the Lady Vols have protected their home

court, as the team is a perfect 12-0 in matches played at Thompson-Boling Arena this year. Since the start of SEC play, UT has only dropped four sets in the friendly confi nes of TBA.

ABOVE .500 AGAINBy winning 16 of its fi rst 17 conference matches

this year, Tennessee is assured of having an SEC record of above .500. Head Coach Rob Patrick has now lead the Lady Vols to a .500 or better record in 13 of his 15 seasons at Rocky Top.

THE ORIGINAL ORANGE PANTSWhen UT head football coach Derek Dooley

headed out of the Neyland Stadium tunnel in orange pants for the season-opener against Montana, he created a buzz around Knoxville, and even nationally.

However, what some may not know is that Lady Vol head volleyball coach Rob Patrick had already donned the orange pants a year ago against Kentucky on Sept. 30, 2010. The match was televised on ESPNU .

The Lady Vols swept the Wildcats in that match and Patrick’s orange pants record now stands at 2-1.

SHE CAN DIG IT!Sophomore libero Ellen Mullins continues to be

a force in the back row for the Lady Vols. Against UK on Oct. 12, she dug a career-high 31 balls, which is the third- most in an SEC match this season. On the season, she ranks fi fth in the conference with an average of 3.75 digs per set.

Mullins bettered her previous career high by 11, as she notched 20 digs against Dayton. Her 31 digs are the fi fth most by an SEC player this year, as she is just the fourth SEC player to reach the 30 dig mark and is 10th most by a Lady Vol in program history.

AWARDS ABOUNDWith success comes reward, and Tennessee

has had an abundance of both. This season alone, multiple Lady Vols have been recognized by the SEC in the same week on three occasions. That ties a conference record, as the only other school to have multiple award recipients on three occasions was Florida in 2008.

Tennessee has now had six different players accumulate 12 league honors, which is the most in the conference this year and fi ve more than any other university. LSU ranks second with seven weekly awards, followed by Kentucky with six.

A SIGNIFICANT RIVALRYThe Tennessee-Kentucky match-up is the longest

running rivalry in Tennessee’s history, as the teams have faced off at least once every year since at 1978.

For the third time in the last four years, UK takes on the Lady Vols in the fi nal match of the season with a chance for a piece of the SEC title. In 2008, UT upset the Wildcats 16-14 in the fi fth set, dashing their championship hopes at home.

A year later, No. 10 Kentucky visited Knoxville with a chance to share the title with LSU. with a win. UT went up 2-0, but UK fought back to force a fi fth set. The Wildcats took a 14-10 lead, but UT scored the next six points to shock the Wildcats.

AN OPPONENTS NIGHTMARESophomore Kelsey Robinson has been

tremendous through 29 matches, producing 11 performances of at least 20 kills so far this season. In 10 of those matches, she has also recorded a double-double. (The list of double-doubles is in the box on the right.)

No Lady Vol had as many 20-kill matches in all of 2010. All-American Nikki Fowler reached the mark four times last year to lead the team.

Meanwhile, Robinson has already surpassed her double-double total from last season, when she had fi ve matches with at least 10 kills and 10 digs.

Perhaps not suprisingly, she is a national leader off ensively. She leads the conference and ranks 15th nationally in kills per set (4.50). She also ranks 10th in Division I in points per set (5.14).

NIFTY 50Freshman Mary Pollmiller’s fi rst year in Orange

and White is off to a fantastic start. Because of injuries at the setter position, she has played all but a handful of points. Her average of 11.88 assists per set ranks fi rst in the SEC and also ranks sixth nationally.

She has 12 matches of at least 50 assists this season, the last one coming in a 3-2 Lady Vol victory at Ole Miss. This season she has also produced six double-doubles, registering 50 or more assists in three of those performances.

LADY VOL DUOS GET REWARDEDWhen a pair of Lady Vols in junior DeeDee

Harrison and sophomore Carly Sahagian were bestowed conference honors on Sept. 26, it marked the fi rst time since Oct. 20, 2008, that multiple Lady Vols were recognized by the SEC in the same week.

Since then, that feat has been accomplished twice by UT, as on Oct. 31, freshman Tiff any Baker was tabbed the conference’s Off ensive Player of the Week., while classmate Mary Pollmiller earned Freshman of the Week honors. Most recently on Nov. 21, sophomore Kelsey Robinson was named Off ensive POW and Baker grabbed Freshman of the Week.

In September, Sahagian was named the SEC Off ensive Player of the Week, while Harrison earned the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week.

Sahagian recorded double-doubles in both matches versus Florida and South Carolina, highlighted by blasting a career-high 19 kills at UF.

Harrison was a standout all-around performer, blocking a total of 12 attacks, with an average of 1.33 blocks per set. She also set career-highs in blocks assists and total blocks at USC. Off ensively, she also notched double-digits in kills in both matches.

In October, Baker became the sixth diff erent Lady Vol this season to earn an SEC accolade. By having six diff erent student-athletes be recognized, it is the most in UT history and ties for the most in SEC history (UF also had six players earn honors in 2007).

Baker had double-doubles in each match and increased her season averages in almost every statistical category. Pollmiller had 41 assists in a sweep of South Carolina, aiding UT to a season-high .446 hitting percentage versus the Gamecocks.

This past weekend against Arkansas and LSU, Robinson averaged 6.00 points per set and 5.50 kills per set, as she registered her SEC-leading 20th double-double of the year versus the Tigers. Baker hit a career-best .524 (11-0-21) in the sweep over LSU, while only committing one attack error between the two matches.

TWO IS BETTER THAN ONEWith Harrison and Sahagian earning conference

honors in the same week, and Baker/Pollmiller and Robinson/Baker repeating that accomplishment, UT is the only team this season to have multiple players earn SEC accolades in the same week. The last time the feat happened came in the fi nal week of 2010, as Alabama’s Mary Catherine Aune and Brianne Vande Griend grabbed Freshman and Defensive POW honors.

UT’S 800TH WINSunday’s 3-0 sweep over Alabama wasn’t only the

the squad’s 24th win of the season, but it also was the 800th win for the Tennessee volleyball program. Lady Vol head coach Rob Patrick has been a huge reason for the success, as he has accumulated nine seasons of at least 20 victories, highlighted by a 32-win season in 2004.

BAKER SHINES BRIGHTAfter grabbing Southeastern Conference

Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 31, freshman Tiffany Baker picked up a national accolade a day later, as CVU.com (College Volleyball Update) named her it’s National Player of the Week.

Baker lead the Lady Vols to a pair of victories against Florida and South Carolina, tallying double-doubles in each match. She averaged 4.00 kills per set, hit at a clip of .429, dug up 3.29 balls per set and had a total of six total blocks.

The Lady Vols have recorded 13 3-0 victories this season. Seven have come at home, while the other six came at the VT Invite and at Arkansas, Miss. State, Louisville and Alabama.

FOUR IS MORE THAN ANYBODY ELSEWhen the Southeastern Conference announced

the weekly award recipients on Monday, Nov. 14, a familiar name was listed as the Freshman of the Week.

Tennessee freshman setter Mary Pollmiller earned the award for the fourth time this season, as she was magnificent in the weekend matches at Ole Miss and Alabama. Pollmiller dished out 104 assists and averaged 13.00 helpers per set, as the Big Orange hit over .300 in both matches.

Against Alabama, the squad hit at a clip of .433, marking the second-highest off ensive output of the season. Versus Ole Miss, she recorded a career-high 69 assists, ranking as the second-highest total of assists by an SEC player this year, as UT blasted a season-high 76 kills.

She fi rst earned SEC Freshman of the Week on Sept. 12 following her outstanding setting performance in Blacksburg, Va. She is one of just two freshmen currently in the SEC top 10 in assists per set, as she ranks fi rst in the league, averaging 11.88 assists per set.

Her second honor came just three weeks later on Oct. 3, for her eff orts at LSU and Arkansas. Against the Tigers and Razorbacks, Pollmiller had a hand in 80 percent of the kills, tallying 92 of Tennessee’s 102 assists and adding fi ve kills of her own.

On Oct. 31, Pollmiller was again tabbed the conference’s Freshman of the Week, as she had 41 assists in a sweep of South Carolina, aiding UT to a season-high .446 hitting percentage versus the Gamecocks.

Her four accolades this year tie for the second most an SEC freshman has received since the conference began naming a Freshman of the Week in 2005. Jasmine Norton of Arkansas collected six awards during her freshman campaign in 2009.

DOMINATING ‘D’ The Tennessee defense has been terrifi c as of late, highlighted by the match at home versus Florida and the road contest against Mississippi State. Against the Gators, the Big Orange defense limited to UF to a mere .160 hitting percentage, as it marked the fi rst time on the season UF was outhit (.175-.160). At the time, Florida was leading the conference and the nation with a clip of .314. At State on Oct. 16, the team held the Bulldogs to a .025 team hitting percentage. In the match, the highest MSU hit in any set was at .056, which came in the second frame. MSU’s hitting percentage of .025 is the 12th lowest average the Big Orange has held a team to since 2001.

MULLINS’ FIRST HONORAfter setting a career high in digs and being a

consistent presence in the Lady Vol back row, the Southeastern Conference announced that Tennessee sophomore libero Ellen Mullins has been named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 24.

It was the fi rst time the Nashville native has been recognized by the SEC, as she averaged a team-best 5.75 digs per set between road matches against Kentucky and Mississippi State.

Against UK, Mullins set a career-high in digs with 31, which ranks second all time in UT history during the 25-point rally scoring era. At the time, it was also the most digs by any SEC player in a conference match this season.

ROBINSON IN THE RECORD BOOKSEntering the fi nal road weekend of the regular-

season, sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Robinson was just 29 kills short of breaking the 25-point rally scoring kills record held by Nikki Fowler, as she had 430 going into the matches at Ole Miss and Alabama.

After blasting 24 kills against the Rebels, Robinson was just fi ve shy of tying Fowler’s tally of 459 in 2009. She eclipsed that mark on Nov. 13 at Alabama, as she recorded 12 kills against the Crimson Tide to bring her season total up to 466. She now has totaled 499 on the year.

Her 42 service aces this season is also Lady Vol record, as she bettered teammate Kelsey Mahoney, who set the previous record in 2009 with 28 aces.

NATIONALLY KNOWNKelsey Robinson has been an off ensive force this

season, as her play has caught the attention of both the SEC and on the national level.

On Oct. 10 she was named the SEC Off ensive Player of the Week, while a day later she grabbed Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week Honors for her eff orts against Alabama and Ole Miss.

Robinson notched double-doubles in both matches versus the Rebels and Crimson Tide and leads the SEC with 19 double-doubles. Versus the Rebels, Robinson recorded her second 20-20 game of the season, as she blasted 20 kills and had 20 digs. In a three-set sweep of Alabama, she registered 15 kills, 13 digs and three assists.

She also received the SEC Off ensive POW accolde on two more occasions, while adding MVP honors at the Comcast Lady Vol Classic and Virginia Tech Invite and being named to the all-tournament team at the Illinois State Farm Classic.

HOW TOUGH IT IS TO WIN THE SECHaving already claimed a share of the SEC title

and controlling their own destiny in the SEC with one match to go, the Lady Vols have accomplished something special that has rarely been done.

Since 1989, LSU and Tennessee are the only two SEC teams besides 19-time champion Florida to have won the conference.

GETTING TO 25Last Friday, the Lady Vols picked up their 25th

win of the year for the 11th time in school history. It marked the fourth time in the last quarter century, and the fourth time under Coach Rob Patrick. This is just the eighth time Tennessee reached the mark during the regular season.

24 NO MORE!The number 24 may be just a number to some,

but for the Tennesseee Lady Vol volleyball team, it is a signifi cant number in both matches versus Florida this season.

Most recently, in a 3-1 win over UF at home, the Big Orange snapped Florida’s streak of winning 24 consecutive sets. The Gators had not dropped a set prior to UT traveling to Gainesville earlier in the season and defeating UF in fi ve.

By downing the No. 6 Gators on Sept. 25, Tennessee broke Florida’s streak of 24 straight SEC wins, which dated back to their last conference loss in 2009 — which was also against Tennessee.

It’s been seven years since the Lady Vols defeated Florida on its home court, as the 2004 squad topped Florida in the regular season fi nale, then returned a week later to win again in Gainesville to capture the SEC Tournament crown.

FLORIDA DOESN’T LOSE AT HOMEFlorida’s loss to Tennessee was just its 21st defeat

at home since Head Coach Mary Wise took over the team in 1991, and just the 52nd loss at home in program history.

By being unoffi cially ranked No. 26 on Sept. 25, UT is just the second unranked team to defeat Florida in Gainesville since 1991, and the fi rst in 17 years.

Now with three victories in Gainesville, no other team has more wins over the Gators at home under Coach Wise than the Lady Vols.

A TOUGH OUTThe Lady Vols volleyball squad has broken out the

brooms 13 times this season, as the team is a perfect 13-0 in three set matches this year.

This is just the second season that Tennessee has not been swept in a match, as the only other occurance came in 2004, as that squad won 32 matches and captured an SEC Championship.

GETTING IT DONE IN THE CLASSROOMThe Lady Vols volleyball squad was one of just

four teams at Tennessee to earn a perfect 100% on the latest graduation success rate report that was released on Oct. 25.

PLAYING THE BIG POINTSThe Lady Vols have gone to five sets in eight

matches this year and are 6-2 in the fi nal set. By going to fi ve sets on eight occurences this season, UT has played the second most fi ve setters of any team in school history.

That mark also ties the most fi ve set matches in a season under Rob Patrick. Tennessee six wins is the school record for most fi ve set victories in a season.

MAHONEY CELEBRATES SENIOR DAYFirst putting on the Orange and White jersey for

the fi rst time in 2008, senior Kelsey Mahoney will play in her fi nal home match of her UT career on Wednesday against Kentucky. Last Sunday, she was honored prior to the start of the LSU match.

Mahoney came to Tennessee along with Kayla Jeter and DeeDee Harrison, but the duo each redshirted. Harrision sat out her freshman year, while Jeter had to miss this season due to an injury right before the start of the season.

A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Mahoney has played in ever match since Kentucky on Oct. 12. She ranks fi rst in asssists per set during the 25-point rally scoring era, while also ranking second in total serving aces in a season.

network over the years and the Lady Vols are 5-3 in those matches. Overall, the team has won 13 of their last 16 televised matches.

NEW COURTTo the casual observer, the Lady Vols’ court looks

very much the same as always with the checker-board orange and white beyond each baseline, but the playing surface is brand new.

The court was assembled for the fi rst time in Thompson-Boling Arena last week and is slightly el-evated off the ground, which makes for more spring on the court. The Lady Vols’ new practice court is also designed this way.
