NATIONAL RANKINGS

 BY THE NUMBERS

4,006» The Lady Vols will rack up roughly 4,006 travel miles - all in the air - from Oct. 9 to Oct. 20 as they travel to LSU, Arkansas and Texas A&M.

15» Junior outside hitter Kelsey Robinson is 15 digs away from joining UT’s 1,000-dig club. Robinson will be the 12th Lady Vol to reach the mark.

UT IN THE RANKINGS¢ For the third consecutive season, Tennessee

opened its campaign in the national rankings, as it came in at No. 15 in the AVCA Preseason Poll. The pre-season ranking was the ninth in program history for UT, who concluded 2011 rated as No. 19.¢ On Aug. 27, the Lady Vols moved up one position

to No. 14 in the nation following wins over Cincinnati and then-No. 10 Iowa State. UT fell down two notches to No. 16 after posting a 2-1 mark at the Shocker Volleyball Classic.¢ The Big Orange went 3-0 at Maryland’s Spring-

Hill Suites Invitational with three sweeps, but dropped one spot to No. 17 in the AVCA Poll on Sept. 10.¢ After opening their SEC slate 2-3, the Lady Vols

dropped out of the top 25 on Oct. 1 for the first time in 17 polling periods and since September 2011.¢ Wins over Mizzou and Georgia would see the

Lady Vols back in the top 25, but they are receiving votes for the second straight week (Oct. 8).¢ The 16-week stretch was the fourth longest in

school history. UT had two stretches of 19-straight weeks (2009-11; 1982-84) and one stretch of 17 con-secutive weeks (2005-05) in the poll.¢ After entering the rankings at No. 24 on Nov. 30,

2009, the Lady Vols spent 19 consecutive polling pe-riods in the Top 25, until falling out for a four-week span last season.

» If she gets the 15 digs, Robin-son will join an even more ex-clusive club, becoming one of five Lady Vols in UT history to have 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.

LADY VOL NOTESROBINSON EARNS MEMBERSHIP¢ Heading into the break at LSU on Wednesday,

Robinson pounded her 998th and 999th career kills to comeback and win the second set, 26-24. Right after the break, the Bartlett, Ill., native slammed down an-other - her 1,000th career kills in the Lady Vol uniform.¢ With that kill, she became one of just 18 Lady Vols

to eclipse the 1,000-kill plateau. She enters this match with 1,010 kills, just two shy of tying Chris Jestilla’s 1,012.¢ Below is a chart of UT’s 1,000-kill club:

FABULOUS IN FIVE¢ UT has played seven five-setters through 17 match-

es this season and holds a 6-1 record in those meetings.¢ The seven five-set matches this year are more

than the Lady Vols have played all season in six of the last 10 campaigns. UT played 9 five-setters last season and finished with a 6-3 mark in those matches. ¢ Wednesday night’s five-set victory at LSU was

the Lady Vol third straight win in five, marking just the second time in program history the team has won back to back to back five-setters. ¢ UT defeated South Carolina, Auburn and Ken-

tucky in consecutive five-setters in 2008.¢ This year is just the second time the Big Orange

has ever won two pairs of back to back five-setters in the same season. The Lady Vols also beat Iowa State (Aug. 25) and Colorado State (Aug. 31) in consecutive five-setters earlier this season.¢ Tennessee fought back from a two-set deficit

against UGA on Sunday. It was the 16th win after be-ing down 0-2 in school history. From 1997 to 2008, the team was only able to accomplish the feat once. Since 2009, UT has won one match that way every season.

MULLINS: SEC DEF. PLAYER OF THE WEEK¢ After her career day in the back row against Miz-

zou, Mullins was named the SEC Defensive Player of the week on Monday afternoon. It’s the second time of her career she has won the award. She posted a ca-

reer-best 34 digs against Missouri, a mark that stands as the seventh-highest total in school history and sec-ond most in the 25-point rally scoring era. It’s also the fourth highest single match total in the SEC this season.¢ On Wednesday, she added her second highest dig

total with 32 at LSU, becoming just the third Lady Vol to record at least two matches with 30 or more digs in the same season.¢ The Nashville native has started every match at

libero for UT this season and upped her average to 4.11 digs per set. Mullins has posted 12 or more digs in all eight conference matches this season and currently ranks sixth in the SEC in digs pet set.¢ Mullins is looking to become the 12th or 13th (de-

pending on Robinson) Lady Vol to join the 1,000-dig club for her career. She currently has 908 career digs.

CAN YOU DIG IT?¢ After posting a season-high 98 digs at home

against Mizzou (Oct. 5), the Lady Vols bested that mark just six days later when they tied a UT rally scor-ing record with 106 scoops at LSU on Wednesday.¢ Tennessee has recorded 50 or more digs in 12 of

17 matches this season and have recorded 98, 79 and 106, respectively, in its last three matches.¢ The Lady Vols have climbed to fifth in the SEC

in the category with an average of 15.7 digs per set.

¢ When she reaches that mark, she will join an even more exclusive club, becoming one of just five Lady Vols in school history with both 1,000 career kills and 1,000 digs.¢ Mullins currently sits at 908 career digs, 92 shy of

joining the 1,000-dig club. If Robinson reaches the club first, Mullins would be the 13th member. Last season, she finished with 471 digs. In 2012, she has scooped 288 balls through 17 matches. ¢ Below are charts on the current UT record watch:

20/20 VISION¢ Against South Carolina (9/23), Robinson recorded

21 kills and 22 digs, marking her third 20/20 match of the season and the fifth of her career. While it’s not an of-ficial stat, it’s certainly a rare feat in the UT record books.¢ Since 2001, six different players have reached the

20 mark in two statistical categories in a single match on just 14 occasions.¢ Below is a chart of UT’s 14 20/20 matches since 2001:

season at UT, Jeter had the breakout performance that she had been waiting for against Georgia (10/7). The All-American posted a career-best 27 kills, break-ing her previous mark of 23 set as a sophomore at Kentucky, and hit .444 against Georgia with 12 digs to notch her first double-double of the season.¢ The 27 kills from the Solon, Ohio native ranks

as the second-highest single-match total in the SEC this year, behind only her teammate Robinson, who notched 29 vs. Iowa State (Aug. 25).¢ The outside hitter added her second straight dou-

ble-double at LSU, going for 13 kills and 10 digs. She’s averaging 1.97 kills per set and hitting .252 this year.

TENNESSEE IN THE RPI¢ The initial NCAA Division I Volleyball RPI of the

2012 campaign was released last week with the Lady Vols coming in at No. 27 in the nation. After defeating Mizzou and Georgia, UT jumped six spots to No. 21 in the second week of the RPI rankings.¢ Six of UT’s 11 wins have come against top 75 RPI

teams: Colorado State (36), Wichita State (39), ISU (44), Mizzou (48), South Carolina (67) and UGA (72). ¢ In addition, all five of the Big Orange’s losses have

come against top 50 RPI squads: BYU (11), Kentucky (18), Arkansas (20), Florida State (16) and Missouri (48). ¢ The SEC has five teams in the top 24 and seven

squads in the top 50 of the RPI rankings: Florida (13), Kentucky (18), Arkansas (20), Tennessee (21), Texas A&M (24), Auburn (45) and Missouri (48).

TENNESSEE ON THE ROAD¢ After hosting its annual home tournament, the

Comcast Lady Vol Classic, from Aug. 24-25, the Lady Vols were road warriors. UT traveled to Wichita, Kan., and College Park, Md., for two regular season tourna-ments and Columbia, Mo., Tuscaloosa, Ala., Lexington, Ky., and Baton Rouge, La., for SEC play.¢ Tennessee is 4-2 in true road matches this season,

with wins over Wichita State, Maryland, Alabama and most recently LSU. UT also has three wins at a neutral location on the campaign.¢ In 2011, the Big Orange finished with a 14-3 re-

cord in matches away from Thompson-Boling Arena, including a 3-1 mark in a neutral location. ¢ Dating back through the 2008 campaign, the Lady

Vols are 42-17 in true road matches. UT is 69-40 in away matches dating back through the 2004 season.

RECORD WATCH¢ Robinson enters the week with 985 career digs

and is eyeing some milestones. With 15 digs, she can become the 12th UT player to reach 1,000 career digs.

TENNESSEE vs. THE TOP 25¢ Through 17 matches, the Lady Vols have faced

three opponents ranked in the top 25 and two that were receiving votes in the poll. ¢ UT is 2-1 against teams in the top 25 this season

with wins over then-No. 10 Iowa State and then-No. 24 Colorado State. The Big Orange’s loss was against then-No. 12 Florida State in the season opener. The Lady Vols also lost to a BYU squad that is now ranked 16th in the weekly poll.¢ The Lady Vols’ two wins over ranked teams are

the only wins over non-conference opponents ranked in the top 25 for SEC teams.¢ Tennessee went 4-2 in matches against ranked

opponents in 2011, with a pair of wins over Florida (No. 6 & No. 13), a victory over No. 16 Kentucky and a win against No. 21 Dayton.¢ En route to its NCAA Regional Final appearance,

the Big Orange defeated a rally-scoring record six ranked teams in 2004. UT shared the SEC title and captured the SEC Tournament title that season.

TENNESSEE ON THE TUBE¢ The Lady Vols will make a league high five TV ap-

pearances in the regular season in 2012. UT, which ap-peared on the network two weeks ago at Kentucky, will make its third and final appearance on ESPNU at LSU. ¢ The Big Orange hosts Alabama (10/28) on Fox Sport-

South and plays at Florida on Comcast/Cox on Nov. 4.¢ Since 2001, Tennessee has played 11 matches on

ESPN networks and is 6-5 in those matches. Since 2009, UT is 13-5 in TV matches. The Big Orange is 1-2 on TV this season.¢ The Orange & White owns an overall record of 21-

20 in televised matches dating back to 2001.

POLLMILLER PASSES 2K¢ With her 36th assist vs. Arkansas (9/21), Pollmiller

became the seventh player in Tennessee history to cross the 2,000-assist mark for her career.¢ As a freshman, she set UT single season rally

scoring records in assists (1,480) and assists per set (11.94). She led all NCAA freshmen in assists per set, while ranking fourth in the nation and first in the SEC.¢ She was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Year and an

AVCA Honorable Mention All-American. In addition, the rookie garnered AVCA All-South Region Fresh-man of the Year, SEC All-Freshman Team and AVCA All-South Region Team honors. ¢ Below is a chart of UT’s 2,000-assist club:

11 STRAIGHT DOUBLE-DOUBLES¢ Robinson, the defending SEC Player of the Year,

currently leads the SEC with 12 double-doubles on the season. Robinson did not achieve the feat in the sea-son opener against Florida State, but reached double digits in two categories in 11-straight matches. Her streak was snapped at Kentucky (9/26).¢ The junior outside hitter started a new streak -

which she looks to continue today - on Wednesday night at LSU. She tallied 18 kills and 17 digs in the match and fell just one dig short of the program’s third triple-double with nine digs.¢ She now has 39 career double-doubles.

POLLMILLER TRIPLE-DOUBLE¢ With her 49-assist, 14-dig and 11-kill performance

against Wichita State (9/2), Pollmiller became just the second player in program history to record the rare triple-double.¢ Pollmiller and Ole Miss’ Amanda Philpot have the

league’s only triple-doubles this season. Philpot tal-lied 11 kills, 14 digs and 36 assists vs. Rice (9/7) and added a 10-kill, 12-dig and 40-assist performance vs. rival Mississippi State (9/21) ¢ Pollmiller is currently tied for fourth in the confer-

ence with eight double-doubles.¢ Tennessee legend Nikki Fowler was the only other

UT player to achieve the triple-double for the Lady Vols. As a freshman, Fowler went for 19 kills, 19 assists and 18 digs at Ole Miss on Nov. 2, 2007. She finished her career (2007-10) with 1,649 kills, ranking fourth in the UT volleyball record books.

RECORD BREAKING TOURNAMENT¢ After posting consecutive 2-1 weekends with no

sweeps to open the season at the Comcast Lady Vol Classic and Wichita State’s Shocker Classic, Tennessee put together a perfect 3-0 weekend with three shut-outs at the University of Maryland’s SpringHill Suites at Arundel Mills Invitational.¢ The Orange & White opened the event with a

win over George Washington and returned to action against Boston College the next day. ¢ The Lady Vols played a historical match against

the Eagles, hitting .639 as a team to break a single-match record that stood for nearly 32 years. UT had 48 kills on 72 attacking attempts with only two errors - a rally scoring era best. Tennessee allowed just 38 points against, the second fewest in the rally scoring era.¢ The hitting percentage clip bested the previous

record of .607 that was set on Sept. 19, 1980 in a loss against Cal State Fullerton.

LAST MEETING VS. ARKANSAS¢ Arkansas came into Thompson-Boling Arena on

Sept. 21 this season and despite the Lady Vols taking the opening set by a 25-21 margin, the Hogs rattled

off consecutive 25-20, 25-17 and 25-17 wins in sets two, three and four, respectively, to earn the road win.¢ With the win, Arkansas snapped an 11-match los-

ing streak to the Big Orange. The Razorbacks hadn’t beaten UT since Sept. 30, 2007 prior to the meeting. ¢ The loss knocked the Orange & White out of the

AVCA Top 25 for the first time since Sept. 2011 and in 17 polling periods dating back to last season.¢ Pollmiller dished out 45 helpers in the match as

she passed the 2,000-career assist mark.¢ Tennessee was outhit .266.150, but managed to

get more kills, assists and digs in the match.¢ Robinson had 14 kills and 16 digs, while Baker had

15 kills. Senior Leslie Cikra added 11 kills and hit .409 for the Lady Vols. ¢ Arkansas outblocked the Lady Vols, 16-6, in total

team blocks, including a combined 15 from Amanda Anderson and Janeliss Torres. Preseason All-SEC hon-oree Jasmine Norton led the Hogs’ offensive attack with 12 kills and added 12 digs. for a double-double.

SCOUTING THE RAZORBACKS¢ Arkansas enters the Sunday matinee with a 14-5

overall record and a 5-3 mark in SEC action after drop-ping a five-set decision to current Western Division leader Texas A&M on Friday. The Aggies topped the Hogs, 21-25, 25-15, 25-16, 23-25, 15-3, in that matchup.¢ The Razorbacks have league wins over the Lady

Vols, Georgia, Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss. Arkansas has losses against A&M, and two vs. Florida.¢ Currently in second place in the SEC West, Arkan-

sas came in at No. 20 - just one slot ahead of UT - in week two of the NCAA’s RPI Rankings. ¢ Arkansas statistically ranks in the top half of the

conference in every category but blocks, aces and digs. The Hogs rank third in both assists per set (12.96) and opponent hitting percentage (.174), fourth in kills per set (14.09) and fifth in hitting percentage (.248). They rank eighth in blocks per game (2.21), ninth in digs per set (14.60) and 12th in aces per frame (0.89). ¢ All-American Jasmine Norton leads the Razor-

backs offensively. The SEC’s active kills leader with 1,601 career spikes, Norton is averaging 3.59 kills per set and 3.19 digs per set for the Hogs. She has 10 double-doubles on the season and 251 total kills. Norton’s kills per set average ranks eighth in the league, while her 0.26 aces per set comes in at No. 12 in the conference.¢ Senior Janeliss Torres is efficient in the middle for

the Hogs, hitting .358 with 142 kills on 296 attempts for the season. Torres also ranks sixth in the SEC with 1.09 blocks per set.¢ Junior setter Raymariely Santos ranks seventh in
