SARATOGA FILM FORUMSARATOGA SPRINGS - THE SUMMIT. Thursday, Jan. 30, 7:30 p.m. Directed by Nick Ryan • Written by Mark Monroe • 95 min. • Ireland | UK | Switzerland | USA• 2012 • Rated R. In August 2008, 22 climbers from several interna-tional expeditions converged on K2’s High Camp of K2, the last stop before the summit. Forty-eight hours later, 11 had been killed or simply vanished into the ever-thinning air. The documentary “The Summit” looks at the murderous mountain and the spirits of those who would dare challenge it, combining firsthand footage and post-ascent interviews with dramatic reenactments. 320 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY. saratogafilmforum.org 518 584 3456. Tickets: $7/$5 members and students with ID
SARATOGA FILM FORUMSARATOGA SPRINGS -RED ANGEL (Akai tenshi). Wed., Feb. 5, 7:30 pm. Town & Gown Movie Night. Directed by Yasuzô Masumura • Screenplay by Ryôzô Kasahara, based on a novel by Yoriyoshi Arima • 95 min. • Japan • 1966 • Not Rated • In Japanese with English subtitles. Presented by James A. de Sève, Filmmaker-in-Residence, Union College. Yasuzo Masumura’s antiwar film, set in 1939 in the midst of the Second Sino-Japanese War, tells the story of young army nurse Sakura Nishi (Ayako Wakao) and her doomed relationship with Dr. Okabe (Shinsuke Ashida), a drug-addicted surgeon. A cross between Altman’s original M*A*S*H and Saving Private Ryan, the film provides great insight into Japanese culture during World War II. Un-flinching in its depiction of war—and those who participate in it—Red Angel is shocking and controversial even by today’s standards. 320 Broad-way, Saratoga Springs, NY. saratogafilmforum.org 518 584 3456. LOW INCOME TAXPAYER CLINIC AT LEGAL AID SOCIETY OF
NORTHEASTERN NEW YORK CAPITAL DISTRICT - The LASNNY LITC off ers FREE tax help to low income New Yorkers who have a tax problem with the IRS. For example, if you got a letter or notice from the IRS that you don’t understand or a bill from the IRS that you don’t think you owe or that you can’t pay, or if you were denied an Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) you thought you should have gotten, we may be able to help. The EITC could reduce your tax bill or even get you a refund if you qualify. You may be able to get the EITC if you have qualifying children and your earned income falls under a certain limit. This limit ranges from $37,870 up to $51,567 in 2013 depending on your fi ling status and number of children. Workers without children who had 2013 incomes below $14,340 ($19,680 for a married couple fi ling jointly) may also receive a very small EITC benefi t. To qualify, a child must live with you for more than half the year. A son or daughter, grandchild, younger brother or sister, or niece or nephew, may be a qualifying child. The child must be younger than 19 (or 24 if they are a full time student) or permanently and totally disabled. Only one person can claim a child for EITC each year. Other age, residence, and fi ling requirements must be met. You must fi le a tax return and claim the credit to get the EITC, even if you don’t otherwise have to fi le. If the IRS denies your claim for the EITC and you don’t understand why, you may want to talk to an accountant or an attorney. The LASNNY LITC can be reached at (518) 462-6765 or (800) 462-2922, Monday through Friday, 9am – 5pm.

TOP-RATED SEDANS FOR
THE NEW MODEL YEAR
Sedans have long been a popular option among drivers. Sedans are popular family cars and are frequently seen as safer alternatives to compacts and coupes. Each year, Con-sumer Reports and Motor Trend rate the best vehicles in each class, and the 2014 list includes some surprising sedans.
For the fi rst time in 20 years, an American car has topped the list of the best-rated sedans, accord-ing to Consumer Reports. The Chevrolet Impala has seized the top-rated spot away from the Japanese and European manufactur-ers who have dominated the list for two decades. The 2014 Impala scored a 95 on a scale of 100. Many car en-thusiasts and trend forecast-ers say this rating is telling of General Motors’ eff orts to improve consumers’ perception of the brand. In one year, the Impala went from one of the worst vehicles in the category to the best.
The Consumer Reports ratings include road test results as well as safety information. Reliability and owner satisfaction ratings provided on older cars are based on surveys from millions of subscribers. When rating sedans, predicted reliability, owner satisfaction, accident avoidance, overall MPG, and other qualities each factor into a vehicle’s overall score.
Sedans are categorized based on size, with vehicles broken down into small, midsize and large categories. Sedans also are classifi ed by their styles, such as upscale, luxury, sports, and even fuel-effi cient. Overall, sedans remain a popular choice because they can provide a good balance of cost, comfort and effi ciency. Many sedans are roomy, quiet and comfortable, making them ideal family vehicles for those who do not want the girth or potentially bumpy ride of a truck.
In addition to the Chevy Impala, Consumer Reports list the following vehicles among their most highly-rated sedans:
* Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE * Toyota Camry XLE (V6)
* Honda Accord LX (4-cyl.) * Honda Accord EX-L (V6)
* Hyundai Sonata Limited (2.0T) * Hyundai Sonata GLS (2.4T)
* Chevrolet Malibu 2LTZ (2.0T)
* Subaru Legacy 3.6R
* Toyota Camry LE (4-cyl.) FC13A545
