Smoking Cessation Group to MeetTROY – The Seton Health Center for Smoking Cessation is offering “The Butt Stops Here: Extended Program,” a support group for those who want to quit smoking or for those who have already quit. Recycling Program at SCCHSSARATOGA SPRINGS – Saratoga Central Catholic High School has announced the creation of a Bottle Recycling Program at their school, located at 247 Broadway in Sarato-ga Springs. The “Green Monster,” as the collection shed has been named, is located in the back parking lot of the school, off of Hamilton Street. The concept for the program was rec-ommended by the Spa Catholic Booster Club, and the project was brought to fruition through the combined efforts of par-ents, staff and students, and alumni. Glass, metal, and plastic returnable containers can be deposited through the trap door of the Green Monster. The money raised will go to support the sports teams at Spa Catholic and enhance the experience of the students, alumni, and fans of Spa Catholic sports. Quilt Honors Gold Star Mothers and Fallen Service MembersSARATOGA SPRINGS – A quilt featuring the names of 24 Capital Region service members who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001 is on display at the New York State Military Museum now thru the summer of 2012. The quilt fea-tures white stars on a blue background embroidered with the name of the service member and next to that is a gold star with the name of the service member’s mother. In 1928 a group of mothers whose sons had been killed in the war formed the Gold Star Mothers as a support organization and as a way to remem-ber their children. Blue Star Mothers was organized in 1998 as a way for women with sons and daughters in the military to support their children and all military members. The New York State Military Museum is located in the Saratoga Springs Armory at 61 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs. Museum hours: Tues.-Sat., 10am-4pm; Sun., 12-4pm. Closed on New York State holidays.
