1 From the Helm…. Bud Albright- Hiram I. Bearss Det. #089 We have a lot of events going on and I urge you to pay attention to our web- site and calendar on our website to find out what is going on. Pay attention to the scuttlebutt both printed and electronic. Speaking of the scuttlebutt if you have not filled out the survey you should have received please do so. This is an important issue that the detachment is considering and we want everyone to have a say in what is decided. If you did not receive a survey please contact one of your officers and we will see that you get one. Our first annual golf tourney was a success and we will have one next year. Our first chicken BBQ was also a success and we will be having one the 3 rd Saturday of each month. We can al- ways use some work-a-bees so if you would like to help on the many projects we have going con- tact myself or one of your officers. Since becoming your Commandant I have always had an open door policy as far as the staff meet- ings are concerned but in order to get through them as quickly as possible please refrain from bringing up an issue during the meeting. If you have an issue that you would like the officers to consider contact one of us before the meeting and we will discuss it. I would like to thank all of the people that are helping with our various events and work at the barracks. I will not mention them as they know who they are and I would not want to leave any- one out. As I said above we can always use some help so step up and take part in making the Ma- rine Barracks our home away from home. An hour or so now and then is a big help. The 2 hats of the new Dept. of Indiana Commandant

"Marines I see as two breeds, Rottweilers or Dobermans, because Marines come in two varieties, big and mean, or skinny and mean. They're aggressive on the attack and tenacious on defense. They've got really short hair and they always go for the throat." -RAdm. Stark, USN; 10 November 1995
