Claims Initiative Fact Sheet 04192013 0100 AM EDT The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is implementing an initiative to expedite compensation claims decisions for Vet-erans who have waited one year or longer Effective April 19 the VA will begin to make provisional decisions on the oldest

claims in inventory which will allow Veterans to begin col-lecting compensation benefits more quickly if eligible This initiative provides a one-year safety net to submit further evidence should it become available and protects the Veter-ans right to appeal the decision

From the Sr Vice Commandants chair Greetings and salutations Marines Many great things are happening in our Corps and in the Detachment Here are a couple of recent eventsarticles 1- I visited the Morgan County Detachment Det 1367 at the invite of one of their members It was an honor to see how they con-duct their meetings and to see what was on their agenda They have many of the same issues such as fund raising color guard and membership strength I plan on continuing to stay in contact with them to see what support we can give each other 2- As we move into the summer months there is a program for active duty members called the 2013 Blue Star Museums Pro-gram This program allows active duty members to visit museums around the US free of charge Just google the name and it will give you all the details Sorry this program is not for veterans 3- The Marine Corps currently has 6- 4 star Generals but soon to only have 5 with the retirement of Gen Mattis 4- I would like to get some volunteers for a committee to organize a family day for our member and families This would also be a great way to get some new members Details to come later 5- The topic of Veterans saluting the flag has been on my mind for a while According to HQMC and ALMAR 05208 there are specific customs and traditions which we as Marines must follow I will be detailing these at the next meeting 6- The detachment will soon have a detachment challenge coin At no cost to the detachment we will be ordering 100 of them for sale to our members The design will be presented at the next meeting The design is simple with the Marine Corps EGA on one side and the HIB logo on the other bordered with the Marine Corps League name I think you like it and I will have more facts for the meeting 7- Attendance at our monthly meetings is a great way for us to hear what is going on and provide valuable input into the future of the detachment I ask each one of you to try your best to attend Until our next meeting Semper Fi and God Bless our Corps Tim Hutchison

I have finished updating the Hiram I Bearss Roster based upon the March 31 2013 roster from Marine Corps League Headquarters The base

information used was the December 12 2010 roster which between it and Nationalrsquos is missing some needed information such as Email

Phone Number and Date of Birth Such information will be added as it becomes available

I have also completed the Delegatersquos Form for the National Convention that will be held from August 4 ndash 9 2013 in Grand Rapids Michi-

gan

New this year is a request that all Officers Board of Trustees are asked to submit a brief of the report they will give at the

monthly Detachment meeting (by the 1st of each month) so that those that are unable to attend Detachment meetings will

know what is going on in their official duties

Here is the Challenge This years Shoot is scheduled for Sept 28 (Saturday) or if rained out move to October 5

Location Jim Wades farm in Northern Owen County

Time help set up tables 0830 to 0900 Shoot begins 1000

We must have a Range Officer at all times Only bring weapons UNLOADED We will load at the firing line

If any of you have not attended plan to come and have fun There will be heavy Competition

You will be shooting for the Record against Marine Legions like Master Gun Lund Oran (only in the black) Lakin Gary

(watch this from the hip) Nasby and last but not least ldquoI am a Tanker Waderdquo

The for the record coarse will be Rifle on official 100 yard 8 rounds offhand 8 rounds sitting 8 rounds prone

Pistol will be 12 rounds at 20 yards 12 rounds at 10 yards

It will be a pitch-in lunch League furnish the meat shooters bring something to share Gary has promised a Trophy to the top
