Training Policies

Register, for example: Winter 2012 Workshops (January 3-6)

Use forums to:

– Search for an answer before posing the question to the University

Alliances team or past workshop instructors

– Post and get answers to questions – do not email instructor directly

Cancellations and No Shows

– If you register for a workshop, and later need to cancel, you must send

an e-mail to [email protected] prior to the close of the registration

period.

– Please remember that each seat in a workshop or seminar has an

associated cost. If you “no show” another faculty member misses an

opportunity, we have less funding available for additional workshops that

benefit professors and it ultimately impacts students.

Information

Systems

The material for the accounting information systems course is delivered in a

series of standalone modules. Each module can be introduced into an AIS

course or other accounting or MIS courses determined by the needs of that

course. It is recognized that different schools will have different curriculum. At

some universities the AIS course is the first professional accounting course

that the students take. However, in other universities the course may come

later in the curriculum. For most of the modules the materials supplement the

coverage of standard AIS textbooks. Because of this, the lecture slides are

kept to a minimum. Instead of covering both the theoretical topics and

application of the theory, they only cover specific points dealing with how the

assignments apply the theory.

Introduction to

Financial

Accounting

This course may be used with any of the commonly used textbooks, although

it was designed with the Larson & Jenson text, "Fundamental Accounting

Principles", which is in use at many colleges and universities across North

America. The course provides a full set of instructor PowerPoint files, student

exercises, and multi-media support, to enable a standard, introductory

accounting course to be taught with the support of SAP software.

Introduction to

Managerial

Accounting

This material contains a series of exercises within SAP ERP which

demonstrate some of the most important features within management

accounting. Each unit opens with basic management accounting and

information about the linkages with SAP. This is then followed by exercise

scripts.

FOR PROFESSORS INTERESTED IN BUSINESS PROCESS INTEGRATION WORKSHOPS

Workshop Name Workshop Description

Business Process

Integration

This is an intense semester-long course designed to teach students about business

process integration and to configure a hypothetical company from the ground up using

SAP ERP. The hypothetical company does not have a production facility; rather, it

buys completed products and sells them to its customers. Throughout the semester,

students create the organizational structure, master data and business rules to support

the core business buy, sell and track (accounting) processes of the company.

ERP Simulation

Game

The ERP Simulation Game is an innovative "learning-by-doing" approach to teaching

ERP concepts. Using a continuous-time simulation, students are put in a situation in

which they have to run their business with a real-life ERP (SAP ERP) system. The

manufacturing game consists of producing and selling Muesli breakfast cereals to the

German market.

Fitter Snacker

Configuration

This configuration class uses the Fitter Snacker Client. It consists of instructions

written with significant screen-shot detail so that students can learn configuration with

a limited amount of input from the instructor.

Quazi Computers

Configuration Case

This case is a "bottoms up" configuration case that requires students to complete the

configuration of the FI, MM, CO, PP, and SD modules for the Quazi Computer

Company. This configuration involves the completion of guided exercises to configure

the specific elements of organizational structure and master data for each module in a

specified order.

FOR PROFESSORS INTERESTED IN BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE WORKSHOPS

Workshop Name Workshop Description

Business Intelligence The business intelligence course consists of modules designed for flexible use in a variety of

courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Each module is designed to stand alone,

and can be taught without having to teach other modules. This enables faculty members to

have a considerable degree of flexibility in how they choose to integrate these materials into

curricula.

Business Intelligence I Modules labeled with at "BI1" prefix contain introductory, user-focused content. These are

suitable for courses that teach the basics of Business Intelligence without going into a great

deal of technical detail.

Business Intelligence II Modules labeled with a "BI2" prefix are intended for a more technical courses. Faculty

choosing to adopt the technical modules may also wish to review the corresponding non-

technical modules to help put the technical modules in context. However, teaching both the

BI1 and BI2 modules for a topic is not necessary as each module does stand on its own.

Provide “hands on” with Business Objects,

Crystal Reports, Crystal Dashboard, and

Business Object Explorer.
