About Mill Toweruilt in 1968 as an impressive grain mill to service area farmers, the Mill Tower stood as an icon of the rap-

idly growing agri-business that would make Abbotsford the agriculture capital of Cana-da. Although Abbotsford remains a leader in the agri-business, the need for the grain mill

changed over time, the land was sold and the tower was later developed by Conwest Developments, part of the Conwest Group of Compa-nies.The redevelopment in 2009 revealed a transformation unlike any other in the lower

mainland. The tallest building in Abbotsford at 245 feet tall, Mill Tower is a landmark in Abbotsford’s Railway District, boasting bright, unique and inspiring offi ce spaces that stem from solid roots in the Abbotsford communi-ty. The redevelopment of such a unique build-ing was a challenging but rewarding process. Careful attention was taken to address pieces of the tower from the grain mill’s operating days, such as the large grain silos that ran the full height of the building. The silos remain as they were too large to remove but they were carefully cleaned and then sealed top and bottom. Clues of its former use can be found throughout the Mill such as the massive 42” hexagonal concrete pillars and steel knobs

on the ceilings where giant hoppers were at-tached. The Tower’s height is equivalent to that of a 20 storey building, however, because of the unique layout only 5 fl oors can be occupied, but they do not disappoint with 20 ft open ceilings, exposed steel rafters and 16 ft win-dows that take in picture perfect views. Two state of the art elevators move quietly and quickly between fl oors. When you enter the lobby, you get a sense of the upscale fi nishing and attention to detail, from polished con-crete fl oors to granite in every washroom. It’s not a surprise that Mill Tower was awarded Best Commercial Renovation/Restoration project in the Fraser Valley.
