Kia Ora from Manukorihi Intermediate Welcome to the last newsletter for the term - I still cannot believe that ten weeks have flown by so quickly. As usual we have had another two weeks that have been jammed pack with many activities and events. PUPIL PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES: First of all thank you to all of the families who attended our three way conferences last week. They were really successful and I heard a lot of positive feedback from our staff, students and families. Our Board of Trustees wanted at least 80% attendance from each classroom and here are the classroom breakdowns: Room 1 - 93.5% Room 6 - 74% Room 7 - 89% Room 8 - 92.8% Room 9 - 89.6% Room 10 - 100% Room 11 - 81.4% Room 12 - 84.3% Room 13 - 96.5% As a school overall: 72% At the end of Term Two we will be holding these conferences again. The focus will be on how well the students have achieved their learning goals and then where to next for them so that they can make further progress. Let us see if every class can hit that 80% mark - that would be a great thing for us all to achieve. PE TOP: Our new PE tops are now in at the Warehouse. Some of our students were wearing them at our sports exchange on Tuesday and they looked awesome. If you do not have one please purchase one now so that your child has the correct sportswear to wear. Below are some photos of what the shirt looks like so you are all aware - thanks. PARK CITY CHURCH HELPERS: We would like to say a huge thanks to the amazing volunteers from Park City Church who have spent this week clearing our gardens. They made a huge difference to that area, as well as our vegetable gardens and the chicken runs. This was done as part of the church’s annual Heart Week project where they give back to their local community. A massive thanks to Whaea Zoey who helped organise this for us, we are incredibly lucky. These wonderful people also provide us with school lunches so that no one goes hungry. The support we receive from this group and others is outstanding. SUMMER SPORTS EXCHANGE: We had a great summer sports exchange with Hawera Intermediate, Devon Intermediate and Highlands Intermediate this past Tuesday. I was lucky enough to go and watch some of the sports - tee ball which happened here at Manukorihi and then I went into New Plymouth and saw some of the outdoor bowls. It was neat to see our kids succeeding in their sports, practising excellent sportsmanship, all whilst enjoying the sunshine. Thank you to all of our staff who were involved in organising this event - we are all very appreciative of your hard work. PAID UNION MEETINGS: As you would have heard nationally the teachers rejected the latest offer given to us by the government. Many people still think that this is purely for the money, but for us here at Manukorihi the issues are greater. We want the necessary help and resources for our students so that they can get the education that they deserve. Therefore we are having a Paid Union meeting on Tuesday 7 th May and we will be closing school for instruction at 12.45pm. If your child is a bus student we will have a staff member here to look after them, but you will need to contact our office and let them know. Thank you for your understanding about this. Remember if you have any questions or queries do not hesitate to contact me - my office door is always open. Enjoy your holidays and I look forward to seeing you all bright eyed and bushy tailed on Monday 29 th April at 8.50am. “Me mahi tahi tatou mo te oranga o te katoa” We should work together for the wellbeing of everyone. Ngā mihi

Office News

UNIFORM Correct footwear must be worn at all times (no white soled shoes permitted). Girls may wear black tights during the winter

months. As previously mentioned, the new PE shirts are now for sale at The Warehouse (Bell Block store only). Correct PE shirts will need to be worn by ALL students at future sports exchanges. The black t-shirt permissible for Term 1 is NO longer school regulation uniform. If there are any issues with supply at The Warehouse please let the school office know. The tracksuit pants we have in stock are now ON SALE for $30 a pair. We have limited sizes but feel free to call the office and check whether we have the size your child/ren need. STUDENT DROP OFF AND PICK UPS Please make sure you drop your child at the school gate and NOT within the school grounds. This helps our students be safe at school by keeping traffic to a minimum. This also applies for picking up students - please meet them at the gates. We have noticed an increase in cars entering the school gate which means student safety is being put at risk. With winter fast approaching it does become very dangerous when too many cars are entering and leaving our school grounds. Also please be mindful of the speed at which you drive when coming up our school hill - we have had a few cars of late speeding and we need to keep everyone safe. Thank you, we appreciate support of all parents/caregivers. SCHOOL HOURS Our school day finishes at 3pm every day - families will be advised of any early school closures via our newsletter, our facebook page, class dojo or our website. STUDENT MESSAGES We cannot guarantee getting messages to students if contact has been made to the office after 2.30pm. Please ensure any message you have for your child/ren is called through to the office before that time.

SCHOOL CONTACT INFORMATION

We are continually finding we are unable to contact

parents/caregivers as we have incorrect phone numbers. It is

important we have correct contact information for families

and caregivers. Please contact the school office with any

changes in home addresses, phone numbers, mobile phone

numbers and emergency contacts. Phone: 754 8025 or email:
