13 March 2019 Kia ora, We have some exciting news! After 40 long years the New Zealand Brass Band Championships are finally coming back to Hamilton. Approximately 30 Brass Bands with families and supporters will be descending on our city which will inject an extra 2,000+ people into Hamilton for the week. That’s a lot of people needing to eat, sleep, shop and explore! There are numerous ways you can be a part of this exciting event. You can showcase your business in the event programme (a ‘must have’ item for band attendees), become a sponsor offering an opportunity for naming rights and other marketing/advertising options. The New Zealand Brass Band Championships is one of the world’s oldest running music competitions. The first contest was held on the 17th of April 1880 with an audience of 2500 people held in the Christchurch Drill Hall. Six bands competed and the audience chose the winner. Now over 135 years later, the NZ Brass Band Championships are stronger than ever. Held annually, the National Championships or as it is known fondly by brass band enthusiasts- ‘The Contest’ moves around different NZ locations each year – usually switching between the North Island and South Island. Hamilton last hosted the contest in 1979 so it is definitely time for Hamilton to enjoy the excitement and musicality that the Championships bring to a city. The 2019 event will run from Wednesday 10th July to Sunday 14th July. The contest is held over 4 to 5 days with both junior and open solo competitions taking place on the first two days, followed by five sections of band events (A, B, C, D, and Youth Grades) over two days. Please find enclosed an advertisers/sponsorship form to complete and return as soon as possible to reserve your space.
