PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGEDear Parents, Staff and Students,

Assalamu Alaikum

Alhamdulillah we have successfully completed term 1 at Ilim College. We had a busy term and achieved so many things in all areas. We have commenced the construction of the language and science building. As you know, we have built a new playground for our primary students and opened the area in term one.

I would like to inform you that secondary year 7 and 8 girls had a successful school camp in Canberra from 9th March to 12th March 2010. I thank our students for their good will and cooperation during the Canberra camp. Special thanks go to Mr Selim Kayikci, Mr Deniz Mehmet, Ms Zahra Zafar, and Ms Amal Aboueid for organising wonderful camp activities for our students.

I would like to emphasize that parents have a very important role to play in education and the college values. Parent participation and involvement is extremely important. It is vital that students and teachers establish good relations so if at any time parents have concerns about their child’s progress, please contact us so that we can deal with the issues before they become major problems.

It is important that good study and organisational practices are put in place from the very beginning, so that all assignments are completed to the best possible standard and that deadlines are met. Parents can assist students by providing support and encouragement by adopting a fi rm approach to study routines.

An important reminder to all parents that term one interim reports are ready to be distributed on Friday 26th March 2010, from 9.30am to 6.00pm. I ask all parents, to attend this important day and get feedback about your child’s progress.

The college offi ce will be open throughout the term break between 9.00am and 4.00pm. If parents have any enquiries, they should feel free to contact us at the college.

Ilim College is offering tutoring for year 12 VCE students during the term break. All year 12 students must contact Mr Fadi Koubar for more information.

Mid March 2010 - Approximate date that parents choosing the EFT payment option will receive the 1st instalment EMA payment into their bank account.

USING SCHOOL BUS

Bus bookings are now fi nalised for 2010.

Please remember, all bus bookings are for a full year, however bus fees are charged each term.

In relation to sitting, standing and walking in the bus: All students must be well seated and have their seatbelts fastened whilst travelling on our buses facing the front at all times. There is to be no side sitting or kneeling on seats, standing and walking in the bus as this action is jeopardising the safety of the bus and its passengers. If a child accumulates any of the above offences 3 times, he/she will have their bus service cancelled immediately. Administration

It is compulsory for every student to wear the school uniform.

All new applicants are required to purchase the new uniform.

New skirt sizes (18-26) have arrived for those who were waiting for them.

Lost & Found is placed next to public phone infront of the offi ce corridor. Please check for your items because at the end of each month they will be binned for hygiene purposes.

EXTENDED ABSENCESShould your child be absent from the College for any reason for 5 consecutive days or more, the offi ce should be informed and an “Extended Leave of Absence Form” must be fi lled out. Otherwise, student’s enrolment may be terminated. Parents should inform the homeroom teachers with notes or certifi cates of any absences less than 5 days.

If a student is absent half the term or more, considering that they have fi lled and lodged an “Extended Leave of Absence form” before the actual absence starts, half of their school fees will be reimbursed.

Please note that parent’s are responsible to fi nalize their account and return their library books and any other school belongings before they leave.

Any absence including overseas trips without notifi cation to school in writing will result in payment in full.

Please note: If a student is absent or is on an extended leave for more then one school term, they will be required to undertake an exam. The results of this exam will determine whether the student is promoted to the next year level or repeat the current year level.

DROPPING OFF YOUR CHILDREN:Please ensure you have left your child’s class by 8:45am. Parents are asked not to occupy the teachers time with personal issues of their child in the mornings as classes begin at 8:50am.

PARENTS, PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE SCHOOL CORRIDORS

BEFORE 3:25PM TO PICK YOUR CHILDREN

A great deal of noise and disruption is caused at the end of the day with a build up of parents that enter the school early. We kindly ask parents to wait outside or in their cars if they arrive before 3:25pm. Thank you for your co-operation.

CHILDREN MUST NOT BE DROPPED OFF EARLIER THAN

8:15AM AND MUST BE PICKED UP NO LATER THAN 4:00PM.

There is no supervision available before and after these times unless children are placed in after school care. For the safety of your child(ren) please ensure you adhere to the times.

Urgent Attention! Medication Authorization Forms

Parents should fi ll out an authorization form which is available at the offi ce for students on medication.

STUDENTS WITH ASTHMA

Students with Asthma should carry their pump with them at all times. However, the school has spare pumps in the sick bay. Please provide an asthma action plan to the offi ce.

STUDENTS WITH ALLERGY

Students with Epipen should pass their Epipen to our school nurse Ms. Nese. An action plan must be also provided to the school.

WRAPPER FREE LUNCHES & HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES

We are encouraging wrapper free lunches for Primary Students. We request that you provide your child with fresh fruits, sandwiches in reusable plastic bags, snacks in containers and water in a plastic take home bottle. Please consider healthy food options - sultanas, carrots and cucumbers cut up, rice crackers etc. Thank you for your support.

MESSAGE FROM THE LIBRARYAs the fi rst term of 2010 draws to a close on 25th of March (last school day of Term One), it is timely that we announce that as of this week the school library will be closed for lending. Overdue slips will be coming home this week. Please return all you library books/items by March 22, 2010. If you’re child/ren have lost their book(s), you are expected to pay the cost of the book; otherwise, you will not be able to collect your child’s report until this matter has been resolved. We would also ask you to fi nalise any issues within a few days.

I would like to also announce that there will be an Islamic Book Fair during the last week of term one during Islamic week. Please feel free to come and visit our Islamic book fair during after school hours (Item(s) will be provided by IBC Islamic Book Store).

Please, also note that is it is compulsory for primary students to bring a school crested library bag for their library sessions. Student’s name and surname needs to be clearly marked on the library bag. If you haven’t by now, you can purchase the school library bag from our school uniform shop located in E block. These library bags help to protect books and help us to identify students.

Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

CHANGE OF DETAILSWhen you change your address, telephone number, custody issues or any other details, please inform the college offi ce as soon as possible. Not providing correct details of your residential address and contact numbers will result in termination of your child/(ren)’s enrolment. Offıce Staff can not change details verbally.

Siir Gecesi is a theatrical performance as a tribute to Turkish poetry, arts and entertainment. Sayın veliler, öğrenciler ve okul personeli,

Elhamdulillah, İlim Kolej’inde birinci dönemi başarıyla tamamlamış bulunmaktayız. Hepimiz çok yoğun bir dönem geçirmekle birlikte bir çok alanda başarı elde ettik. Dil ve Fen Bilimleri binasının yapımına başladık. Bildiğiniz gibi ilkokul öğrencilerimiz için yeni oyun alanını yaptırdık ve birinci dönem içinde öğrencilerimizin kullanımına sunduk.

9-12 Mart 2010 tarihleri arasında ortaokul 7 ve 8. sınıf kız öğrencilerimiz için düzenlenen Canberra okul kampının çok iyi bir şekilde geçtiğini sizlere bildirmek isterim. Kamp süresince öğrencilerimizin göstermiş olduğu iyi hal ve hareketlerden dolayı kendilerine çok teşekkür ediyorum. Öğrencilerimiz için hazırlamış oldukları mükemmel kamp aktivitelerinden dolayı sayın Selim Kayıkçı, Deniz Mehmet, Zahra Zafar ve Amal Aboueid’e çok özel teşekkürlerimi sunmak isterim.

Velilerimizin eğitim alanında büyük bir rol oynadığını belirtmek isterim. Ailelerin katılımı büyük derecede önemlidir. Öğrenci ve öğretmen arasında iyi bir ilişki kurulmalıdır ki, velilerimizin çocukları hakkında herhangi bir endişesi halinde, problem büyümeden okul olarak öğrenciye gerekli yardımı yapalım.

Öğrencilerimizin okul baslangıcından itibaren düzenli ve iyi bir çalışma yaparak bütün ders ünitelerini mümkün olduğu kadar en iyi standartlarda tamamlayarak hazırlanması önemlidir. Velilerimiz tüm çalışma rutinlerinde sağlam bir yaklaşımın benimsenmesiyle öğrencilerimize destek ve teşvik sağlayarak yardımcı olabilirler.

Birinci dönem karnelerinin 26 Mart 2010, Cuma günü, saat 9.30 ile 18.00 arasında dağıtılacağını bütün velilerimize hatırlatmak isterim. Çocuğunuzun gelişimi hakkında bilgi edinebilmeniz için çok önemli olan bugüne katılmanızı önemle rica ederim.

Kolej’imizin ofi si tatil boyunca saat 9.00 ile 16.00 arasında açık olacaktır. Velilerimiz ihtiyaç duydukları taktirde bu saatler arasında bize ulaşabilirler.

Tatil süresince İlim Koleji 12. Sınıf VCE öğrencilerine özel dersler verilecektir. Bütün 12. Sınıf öğrencilerimiz daha fazla bilgi için Fadi Koubar Bey’le irtibat kurmalıdır.
