Our Year 9/10 Futsal Team won

best title in tournament

Our Futsal Team yet again made us proud by winning the title of the best Year 9/Year 10 futsal team in the Australian Futsal Championship 2009.

Held in Sydney on the 28th and 29th of September 2009, the tournament is an annual event organised by the Australian Futsal Federation. Our three day trip to Sydney was hosted by the Australian Islamic

Social Association of New South Wales.

History seems to repeat itself when the same team came 2nd in Victoria in a Futsal Tournament organised by FIFA for secondary students, last June in Bendigo, and 3rd place in Australia, in the National Fifa Schools Competition during the Term 3 Holidays.

Our fabulous team - represented by Turgay Karasungur (Captain), Salih Doren (Vice Captain), Yusuf Ozen, Muhammed Kurucu, Mehmet Karakus & Furkan Aytekin - are true sportsmen who gave

100%, not only on field but also off field with their fine Islamic values and behaviour.

Ilim College is very proud of their achievements and wish them all success in future competitions and tournaments.

We would also like to thank the Australian Islamic Social Association of New South Wales, Imam Abdul Kader & Mr Ismail Akyuz for assisting us in the tournament.

Tips from your school counsellor: problem solving 1-Know the problem. 2. Know how you view the problem (too difficult or changeable)? Re-phrase the problem into a solvable issue no matter how small or big it is. 3- The solutions are in the exception to the problem. This means that you need to ask yourself the following questions • When/Where and with whom does the problem occur less or not at all? 4- Do more of what works and helps the situation.

5-Motivation is a key ingredient to change . Sometimes is very difficult to motivate yourself, your child and even your adolescent. Remember success is a big motivator; feeling that you can improve things in your life and observing positive changes will automatically make you feel better and think clearer.

NAPLAN - National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy 2009 Primary School Results - Overview

In May this year, years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students in the whole Australian nation participated in the NAPLAN tests. Last week our students’ results were sent home along with a letter and pamphlet on how to interpret your child’s results. As the Primary NAPLAN coordinator, I am delighted to inform you that we have received very pleasing results in most areas of NAPLAN in Grades 3 and 5. This year we have further improved in most areas compared to last year’s results.

In Grade 3, our average scores in Reading, Writing, Spelling and Numeracy were above the state. In Grammar and Punctuation, we were equal with the rest of the state. All our year 3 students (100%) were at or above the National Minimum Standards in all areas of NAPLAN.

In Grade 5, our average scores in Spelling and Numeracy were above the state and in Grammar and Punctuation we were equal with the rest of the state. In Reading and Writing, our average scores were slightly below that of the state. All our year 5 students (100%) were at or above the National Minimum Standards in Writing, Spelling and Numeracy, whereas, 97% of our students were at or above the National Minimum Standards in Reading and Grammar and Punctuation.

On Monday, 12th October, students that achieved outstanding results were awarded with prizes for their outstanding results during a whole college assembly.

Congratulations to our students, teachers, parents and the wider school community for our successful NAPLAN results, which is a true reflection on how well we work together in partnership with students, teachers and parents at Ilim College. We hope to continue this success in 2010 and beyond, Insha’Allah.

Mr. Dogan AkinSenior Primary Coordinator

NAPLAN - National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy 2009 Secondary School Results - Overview

In the beginning of term two, students from Year Seven and Year Nine participated in the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy. As the senior school NAPLAN Coordinator, I am thrilled with this year’s results. Students in Year Seven and Year Nine are continuing to increase the knowledge in all key components in literacy and numeracy, thus further improving on last year’s results.

The Year Seven students have successfully annihilated all goals set out before them. The record-breaking results are an all time high at Ilim College. In Writing, Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation and Numeracy, the year seven students are well above the State Average in all these components. The most outstanding achievement was in the Spelling component where over half of all students in year 7 are at least one year above their year level; a fantastic feat!

The Year Nine results are very pleasing as nearly all students are achieving at or above the National Benchmark. The teacher’s goals at the beginning of the NAPLAN tests were to ensure that over 90% of the students are above the National Minimum Standards in all components. These results are deemed a success as the goals set out have been accomplished.

On behalf of the teachers, administration and school board, the principal Mr. Kirca, awarded all secondary school students who achieved outstanding results with certificates. The members of the school board were also very generous in awarding prizes to the many students who excelled in the NAPLAN tests in a whole-school assembly.

With the Faculty of English and Math working exceptionally hard throughout the course of the year to improve on last year’s results, all students and teachers are to be commended on these outstanding results. These results manifest the schools desires, dedication and devotion to ensure that all students at Ilim College are obtaining the best possible education.

Tatil süresince yeni personel araba parkı giriş ve kulübesinin inşaatına başladık ve yeni bahçe çitlerini oyun alanlarının etrafına yaptırdık. Şu an sınıfların eski camlarını değiştirmekteyiz ve bu işlemi 2009 Aralık ayı sonlarında tamamlamayı planlamaktayız.
