FROM THE ILIM BOARD
It is with pleasure as President of the Ilim College Board that I pre-
sent the Strategic Plan for 2012 – 2015.
This plan outlines the vision and philosophical foundation that will
provide the basis of continual outstanding education provided at the
College.
Although, Ilim is a relatively young school in our short history we
have set a strong foundation for delivery excellent education. This
plan outlines the 4 year vision that will provide the continuing provi-
sions for outstanding education.
The strategic plan elucidates the direction in which the College is
taking in its missions and core values.
The College Board and Principal are committed to working in part-
nership with teachers and the whole school community to maintain
and strengthen its quality of education.
The College Board supports the strategic plan through the provision
of the appropriate resources, facilities and personnel. By supporting
this plan the Board aims to ensure that Ilim College provides an ex-
ceptional learning environment for all students.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
The strategic plan has been developed through consultation of
key learning area coordinators both in our Primary and Secondary
Departments and the Principals Executive Team.
The strategic plan aims to further enhance our capacity in devel-
oping intellectual, physical, emotional, spiritual and social knowl-
edge, skills and attributes. This will be provided by a committed
and professionally developed staff who desire attainment of excel-
lence in teaching and learning outcomes.
The College culture of leadership and a sense of community and
service based on Islamic values remains a strong focus and will
continue as an integral part of our vision and mission for the fu-
ture.
The strategic plan signals our intention to continually build on the
excellent education and good reputation it holds within the com-
munity.

To achieve this objective, Ilim College (IC) will: Develop and maintain “The Ilim Frame-

ACTION PLAN SUMMARY
With the addition of the new Glenroy Campus (GC) IC will works towards creating an innovative curriculum plan that will provide more varied and engaging opportunities for stu-dents in the Early, Middle and Senior Years. The main focus during this time will be to ensure alignment of the School’s curriculum and the Australian Curriculum through detailed curriculum mapping against National Stan-dards. This, in conjunction with parental and staff feedback, will also inform assessment and reporting procedures and report formats. Another key feature of School curriculum will be the intro-duction of electives in the Middle Years which will provide students with opportunities and challenges. The College will continue to upgrade the ICT Department to ensure students are skilled in the use of technology. Programs will be in place which will assist underperforming and disengaged students across all levels. Similarly, IC will continue to develop programs which identify and cater for students with learning difficulties and for those with talents. Transition processes will be improved to assist all students as they move from feeder schools to IC and then between different sections of the School. Focussed attention will be given to a professional development program that will further improve the quality of teaching and learning in classrooms. Detailed objectives for each learning level follows: PRIMARY YEARS Align the Primary curriculum at GC and DC, in line with
best practice Promote communication with the school community,
particularly parents, regarding Primary curriculum activi-ties and learning opportunities
Review and audit student time allocation in each key learning area and bell times
Improve the quality of teaching and learning in nu-meracy and literacy
Implement the Victorian Early Years and Development Framework (Birth to 8 years)
Review the Prep transition programs to improve its ef-fectiveness
MIDDLE YEARS Ensure students’ needs are catered so that they are En-
gaged across the curriculum Develop study skills sessions to ensure students are self
learners Develop cohesive literacy & numeracy programs which

At the heart of IC is the notion that the students’ wellbe-ing is of paramount importance. Through the varied ac-tivities, students are encouraged to feel a sense of be-longing and security and which facilitates effective learn-ing. The acknowledgement of a strong connection with the college
community is vital to further developing the community net-
works and provide opportunities for members of the school
community to become more involved in school related activi-
ties and events. The ongoing promotion of engagement and
participation will focus on improving partnerships with parents,
students, staff, alumni and the wider school community.
Parent Partnerships Objectives:
Encourage and provide opportunities for parents to en-
gage and participate in school related activities (camps,
excursions, incursions, gatherings, forums, graduation
nights, open days, concerts, ceremonies, parent informa-
tion evenings etc).
Develop clear, concise and effective communication be-
tween school and parents
Encourage parents to be part of parent volunteer groups
and to attend parent support meetings and seminars
Communicate opportunities available for parents and as-
sist their involvement in voluntary work, work experience,
TAFE and University courses etc.
Educate the wider school community about programs,
spirituality and health and wellbeing through newsletters,

The efficiency and effectiveness of staff members is paramount
for the College’s enduring accomplishments. In order to employ
and retain the best quality staff members, Ilim College will:
Enhance, instigate and continually enrich the staff recruitment
and selection processes
Revise and revamp the current induction and mentoring prac-
tices to manifest best practice
Develop a cyclical staff appraisal system that will improve staff
management and support systems
Promote professional leadership and development programs
that will cater for career enhancement and opportunities to all
staff members
Investigate performance-based remuneration packages to help
retain the best quality staff members
Introduce staff assistance and performance feedback proc-
esses that will enhance career development and assists in the
identification of strategic planning and implementation
Commit to self-evaluation and accountable decision making
process
Instill a mixed balance between experienced teachers and new
graduates
Continue to work collaboratively with ISV
Provide avenues for further staff training in certified qualifica-
tions
These primary projects will work collaboratively with highly
enriching supportive systems that cultivates a comprehensive
and encouraging work environment. These systems may in-
clude Islamic social gatherings, new staff lounges, after-hours
staff activities, formal events and professional development
prospects etc.
Additionally, the College will review the processes of employ-
ment by documenting and recording all employment contracts
with reviews on an annual basis. Employing a human re-
sources officer, evaluating staff salaries and time-allocations
will demonstrate our commitment to clear, honest and fair
management of all staff, ensuring staff members feel sup-
ported and avowed within the College community.

Governance & Compliance
The College governance structure is made of the Board
Members who oversee the Principal who has the responsi-
bility of the day to day operations and strategic direction.
College Board comprises of persons with a broad range of
skills and experience as necessary to address the chal-
lenges face by the College. Board Member’s meet on a
regular basis to discuss and review the College activities,
requirements and achievements.
The Principal will report to the Board regularly focusing on:

NATIONAL MELBOURNE DECLARATION ON EDUCATIONAL GOALS FOR YOUNG AUSTRALIANS
Key features of our strategic plan and vision are:
To provide an engaging curriculum across Prep to Year 12
To increase involvement of parents in school activities and
provide professional learning advice and strategies to sup-
port their child’s learning

The school curriculum will be built around a common and
consistent curriculum at all levels of the school, outlined as

Early Years, Reggio Emilia inspired developmental play
curriculum for P-3
Implementation of the Australian Curriculum across P-10
on literacy, numeracy, Science and History in 2013
Embracing a common Middle Years Philosophy and cur-
riculum which will be introduced in 2013 to years 6 and 7
and in subsequent years to 8 and 9.
Increasing VCAL subjects and adding on Business Retail,
Sports Recreation in 2014
Senior Study support program will be introduced with the
completion of the VCE building
An important aspect of the strategic plan is its emphasis on
continued excellence in educational outcomes and increase
in subject choice. We aim to build on the quality of teaching
by setting up for effective teacher appraisal, targeted whole
school professional development, professional learning
Teams and goal setting with coaching opportunities.
Ilim College seeks to be seen as school with a strong sense
of community embedded with Islamic values providing a
global curriculum that is essentially Australian, for a diverse
student body.
The 2008 Melbourne Declaration on Educational
Goals for Young Australians provided for all young
Australians to become successful learner, confi-
dent and creative individuals and active and in-
formed citizens and to be able to relate to and com-
municate across cultures, especially the cultures
and countries of Asia.
Our strategic and national plans are placed within
