A PROGRAM OF LIFE

The message we are given from the Biblical readings for this Sunday (Zephaniah 2: 3; 3: 12 – 13; 1 Corin-thians 1: 26 – 31; Mt. 5: 1-12a) teach us about the qualities that God appreciates in people: the poor and the humble. The prophet Zephaniah, exhorts us: LOOK FOR GOD. Despite so much infidelity and deception by the majority of the people, it is the poor

who remain faithful to the will of God. The poor know that God will not abandon them. That is why they believe and trust God. Despite the fact that there will be difficult moments, sickness, lack of resources; they know that God will always help them. Saint Paul reminds us: God has chosen the small and insignifi-cant of the world to humiliate the wise. This is the eternal meth-od of God, He chooses the poor of the world who should have the Kingdom of God. Celso, one of the first enemies of the Christian religion, wrote in the year 178, to mock the followers of Christ: “The majority of them are humble and the ignorant of the common people: weavers, laborers, farmers, traders, shoe repairers, tailors, poor people, obscure to society, like ants on an ant hill or like bats in the night, devalued like the frogs in a hole, neglected by society like worms”. These are the type of people that Christ came to look for and He continues to search for! These are the type of people that know that on their own they do not have power nor material riches in society, but they know that for God nothing is impossible. It is a universal fact that the powerful, the rich, will end up tasteless and sinking in their doubts or in the abyss of their wickedness because they attempt to be gods. If we are asked: Do you want to be poor? Do you want to suf-fer? Do you want to cry? Who wants to be hungry and thirsty? Who wants to be persecuted for being honest and just? Most likely most would respond: “No”. In the world that we live in, we learn since we were children that money, properties, pres-tige, the power of fame…will give us security, recognition, so-cial class, etc. Contrary to what the world teaches us, Jesus of-fers us seven enormous gifts that are within reach for everyone. In our society happy are those who are rich who have every-thing and in abundance. For Jesus happy are the poor because theirs is the Kingdom of God. In a happy world are the advanta-geous and ambitious, in the first place are the sinners, those who lie, the arrogant the unjust, those who do not feel compassion for others, those who are free with their desires. For Jesus, blessed are those who cry, those who suffer hunger and thirst, the merciful, those who share the little or much of what they have, because God is with them and God will repay them eter-nally. The true happiness begins in the heart, in being in a good relationship with God and our brothers and sisters. Heaven awaits us, be encouraged.

UN PROGRAMA DE VIDA El mensaje que nos dan las lecturas Bíblicas de este Domingo (Sofonías 2, 3; 3,12-13; 1 Cor. 1, 26-31; Mt. 5,1-12a). Nos enseñan sobre las cualidades que Dios aprecia en la gente: los pobres y los humildes. El profe-ta Sofonías, nos exhorta: BUSQUEN A DIOS. A pesar de tanta infidelidad y engaño de la mayoría de la gente, son los pobres los que permanecen fieles a la voluntad de Dios. El pobre sabe que Dios no lo desampara. Por eso cree y confía. Aunque vengan momentos difíciles, enfermedades, carencias; él sabe que solo Dios lo socorrerá. San Pablo nos recuerda: "Dios ha escogido lo pequeño e insig-nificante del mundo para humillar a los sabios" Este es el eterno método de Dios, escoge a los pobre del mundo que han de dedi-carse a extender el reino de Dios. Celso uno de los primeros enemigos de la religión cristiana, escribió en el año 178, para burlarse de los seguidores de Cristo: "Son en su mayor parte de los humildes e ignorantes de la plebe: tejedores, cargueros, agri-cultores, vendedores ambulantes, zapateros, sastres, gente po-bre, desconocida en la sociedad, como hormigas en un hormi-guero o como murciélagos en la noche, desvalorizados como ranas en el pozo, despreciados por la sociedad como lombri-ces". ¡Esta es la clase de gente que Cristo vino a buscar y sigue buscando! Esta es la clase de personas que saben que por sí mismas no tienen poder ni riquezas materiales en la sociedad, pero saben que para Dios nada es imposible. Es un hecho uni-versal que los poderosos, los ricos, terminan zozobrando y hun-diéndose en las dudas o en el abismo de sus maldades porque juegan a ser dioses. Si nos pregunta: ¿Quieres ser pobre? ¿Quieres sufrir? ¿Quieres llorar? ¿Quién quiere pasar hambre y sed? ¿Quién quiere ser perseguido por honesto y justo? Lo más seguro es que la mayo-ría respondería: "Nadie" En el mundo que vivimos, aprendemos desde niños que el dinero, las propiedades, el prestigio, el poder y la fama... nos dan seguridad, reconocimiento, clase social, etc. Contrario a lo que nos enseña el mundo, Jesús nos ofrece siete premios gordos, que están al alcance de todos...Para nuestra sociedad dichosos son los ricos, que tienen todo y les sobra. Para Jesús dichosos son los pobres, porque de ellos es el Reino de los cielos. Para el mundo dichosos son los ventajosos... am-biciosos, en los primeros puestos del mundo están los que pe-can, los que mienten, los arrogantes, los injustos, los que no sienten compasión de los demás, los que dan rienda suelta a sus deseos. Para Jesús son dichosos los que lloran, los que sufren hambre y sed de santidad, los misericordiosos, los que compar-ten lo poco o mucho que tienen, porque Dios está con ellos y Dios los recompensará eternamente. La verdadera felicidad comienza en el corazón, en estar en buena relación con Dios y nuestros hermanos. El cielo nos espera. ¡Animo! Contigo, Rev. Wilson Cuevas, Pastor

THE SPIRITUAL RETREAT FOR LEADERS WAS A GREAT SUCCESS

Last weekend the leaders of the ministries of the parish were at a Retreat in Holy Cross, N. M. with 62 leaders participating. Fr. Fabian Marquez, presented us with the topics for reflection. Fr. Wilson Cuevas and Fr. Frank Her-nandez accompanied them. We give thanks to God for the gifts of the Holy Spirit and we are ready to serve our community. Thank you for your prayers.

REST IN THE PEACE

Two brother Priests recently passed away. God called to them to enter the eternal joy of their Lord. Fr. John L. Vessels, S.J. and Fr. José Moreno. We offer mass and prayers for their eternal rest. We give our condolences to their families and religious communities. May they Rest in Peace! Mass will take place at St. Pius X on Saturday the 28th at 1:00pm.
