The students wrote outstanding scripts with their take on what really happened in many well-known fairy tales. Apparently the wolves, pigs, Goldilocks and Lile Red Ring Hood were all falsely accused of crimes they didn’t commit and this assembly gave them the opportunity to be exonerated. The” Cup Song” was a highlight, as well as the commentary from David Aenborough and his good wife. That Was The Semester That Was I have been at Dalmain since 2002 and I don’t think I have ever experienced such a frenetic time at this school as I have over the past six months. We started the semester preparing for the 25th Anniversay Assembly and Fete both of which were most successful. We then had the ANZAC Service commemorating 100th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli. Following that, we launched into NAPLAN, had the IPS Review, the Tree House restaurant, breakfast at school, the Lightning Carnival and numerous incursions and excursions.

Thank you to staff, students and the community for their continued support with all the school’s programs.

Judging by the number of students who are currently unwell, I would suggest we are all in need of a break! Enjoy your well deserved holiday,

Eileen Buswell Acting Principal

Dalmain Primary School’s

Waste Wise Update

Dalmain Busy Bee Saturday, 8 August 2015

1.00pm - 4.00pm

We are having a Busy Bee to progress our Waste Wise program and in particular to clean up the basketball court

next to the Pre Primary. The worm farm and the compost area are now both located on the basketball court and

we are looking at moving and setting up garden beds, trimming trees and jackhammering holes in the court

service to make way for the planting of fruit trees.

If you can help, even for an hour, please let the school office know. We will also require some extra tools and

equipment including wheelbarrows, shovels, pruning saw, shears, rakes, large brooms and the like.

It’s fun!

Making compost is real science

It’s good to get outside in the fresh air

We are learning how to make

natural fertilizer

We are working in a team and getting to

know each other better

This group of Year 6 students have been working hard to help establish composting at our school. Composting is decreasing our school’s food and garden waste and diverting it from landfill.

The compost bays are located on the old basketball court and will provide our school gardens and Urban Garden with natural fertilizer, improve the soil quality and reduce water consumption.

Why we like being a Compost Crusader?

We are seeking donations of

gumboots for our Compost Crusaders, size 8 or bigger.

Caversham Wildlife Park Excursion - TA 3 & TA 4

Yesterday students from TA3 & TA4 went to Caversham Wildlife Park.

They watched a farm show which included mustering sheep, sheering a sheep, feeding lambs and milking a

cow. They even got to hear the crack of a whip. After the farm show they met a Wombat and his Australian

friends. They also got to feed some kangaroos. A wonderful day had by all.

Thank you to all the parents and teachers who assisted on the day.

Water Wise Report - Term 2

TA4 has been reading the water metre every Monday. We started recording in week one of term two because we wanted to see if we could save water.

- Flynn, Jahlia, Georgia and Robbie

In week one we used 47,800 litres of water. In week two we used 33,000 litres of water. This means that we saved 14,000 litres of water. In week three we used 33,400 litres and in week four we used 26,825 litres of water. We saved 6,589 litres of water. In week six we used 26,850 litres and in week seven we used 26,350

litres of water. That means we saved 500 litres. In week eight we used 24,300 litres of water and in week nine we used 22, 830. We saved 1,470 litres.

- Lewis, Oscar, Bella

This graph shows the water we have used.

In week two we saved 14,000 litres of water. In week five we saved 6,589 litres and in week seven we saved 500 litres. In week eight we saved 2,050. In week nine we saved 1,470 litres of water.

- Jahlia, Flynn, Georgia, Robbie

This graph shows the water we have saved.

Thankyou for saving water each week. We would like you to continue saving water. We are still going to look

at the water metre next term and continue the water wise graph. - Nicole, Abigail, Stella

Some helpful tips:

School Bring a water bottle every day so you don’t waste water at school. When you go to the drink fountain have a quick drink. Use the half flush on the toilet. Report leaking taps.

Home Turn off the hose tightly when you go inside. Make sure the dishwasher is full before using it. Only water each plant for 3 seconds. When you have finished with a small paddling pool empty it into the garden.
