In particular, it has been noted that students have been appreciating the playground opportunities and enjoying their time out in the fresh air and sunshine. The oval has been a particularly busy place with some of our year one students now choosing to play there. The weather has certainly been kind with many sunny winter days, which I am sure will not last for too much longer! P&C MEETING – PARENT SUPPORT NEEDED The first meeng for term three was held last night in the staffroom. Once again parent numbers are an issue with only a small number of parents in aendance. For our P&C to be able to funcon we certainly do need to have some addional parents come along to our meengs. The P&C is also looking for someone to fill the Treasurers posion. This is an essenal role within the P&C and needs to be filled as soon as possible. Put simply, our P&C cannot connue to operate without a Treasurer. Support and training is available to anyone who may volunteer for this posion. If you would like to know more, please contact Rebecca Horsey (P&C President Ph:0479 048 872) or the school office. LAPATHON The annual school P&C lap-a-thon is once again only a few weeks away. Student lapathon sponsorship forms have been forwarded home with students today. This is a major fundraiser for our P&C and I hope that it will be well supported by our school community again this year. Care for Kids who have sponsored this event for many years are doing so once more. This means that there will be a major prize of a bike or similar as well as many smaller prizes on offer for those lucky students who have their name drawn out. Students get a cket in the draw for every $5 that they raise in the lapathon. PLANNING FOR 2020 This term we begin our planning for next year. One of the most important factors in planning for 2020 is establishing an accurate forecast of student numbers. Parents of students who will not be aending Dalmain Primary School next year are requested to advise either their childs class teacher or the school office as soon as possible. Parentscooperaon with this request is very much appreciated. ISSUE #22 1 August 2019

Kindy Story-Time Session in the Library As part of Kindy’s library time on Tuesday, the students were entertained with a selection of stories and songs by Kathy from Woodvale Library. The story-time session was organised in conjunction with the ‘Better Beginnings’ program. ‘Through Better Beginnings, we want every child to have the wonderful and very important experience of sharing books and stories with the adults in their life.’ During the Kindy parent introduction meeting at the beginning of each year, Dalmain Primary School kindy parents are given a free story pack containing a story book and information about what the local library has on offer such as their storytelling session on Fridays at 10:00am. This storytelling session is followed by songs, crafts and playtime for the children and usually finishes at 11:30am. Discovery bags can be located in the junior fiction area of the Woodvale library. These bags contain 3 or 4 books, a puppet relating to the stories, a musical instrument and a surprise item. Children are allocated their own library card and are allowed to borrow up to 15 items for four weeks. The kindy students thoroughly enjoyed their story session and participated eagerly with Kathy in the storytelling activities and songs.

Our veggie gardens in the DUG have really flourished over the cooler months with students throughout the school involved in planting, weeding and picking produce. Classes have enjoyed taste testing produce from the fruit trees, digging for sweet potatoes and cooking with spinach, broccoli and cauliflower. The Kindy and Pre-Primary students have been busy making a vegetable frittata and a cauliflower bake. Barbie has used much of the fresh produce in a range of delicious canteen menu items including muffins, soups, stir fry and Gozleme, to name a few. Helpers are always welcome and encouraged to support students working in the DUG on Thursdays from 2.00pm – 3.00pm. No experience is necessary! Help is also needed with watering, turning the compost and some picking of herbs. These jobs require a very small time commitment and can be done at any time. Please meet us in the DUG, contact the school office or drop in to PP2 if you wish to be involved.
