Using creative and systems thinking activities, students discover interactions between humans and other living organisms, with a particular focus on organic waste recycling. External Validation School self-assessment is a key component in the school planning and reporting cycle. As a reflective process, our school regularly collects, analyses and evaluates a range of qualitative and quantitative evidence to inform our overall performance in relation to the desired improvements in the School Plan. Once during a five-year cycle, schools undergo an external validation of the evidence of their school self- assessment. This year it's our turn! Throughout this term the staff, led by the School Improvement Team, have been participating in this self-assessment process. This has included making judgements on how the school is performing against the School Excellence Framework. As part of this process the school will engage in discussions with an external panel this Thursday in order to have our self-assessments validated using the School Excellence Framework (SEF). TTFM surveys Next term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parentsand carersperspectives on their childs experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 14-25 October. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated. More information about the survey is available at: http:// surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au The link to access the survey will be emailed out to all parents/carers on Thursday. Students in Year 4-6 will also participate in the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey at the beginning of next term. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. You may remember that our students also participated in a Tell Them From Me student survey in Term 1 this year. Asking students to complete the survey twice in one year allows us to identify trends in student responses as well as track engagement and motivation across the school year. The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different

Our PBL focus at CVPS this week is At CVPS we are responsible learners who always do our best.

Environmental Ed workshops As part of the School’s Sustainability Education Program, in collaboration with Mid-Western Regional Council, we are lucky enough to have Natalie from Impact Environmental education running a second series of workshops with each of our classes this week. This workshop is titled Everything Organic and in this module, students explore natural systems and human systems, and our role within these. T20 Cricket Gala Day Last Friday, 20 students from Cudgegong Valley Public School participated in the T20 Cricket Gala Day run by Cricket NSW at Walkers Field. Our 3 teams each played 4 games in total against other teams from the Mudgee area and beyond. Cricket NSW provided an opportunity for CVPS students to develop their cricket skills through modified games. The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and appreciated the experience. Positive behaviour was displayed throughout the day and I was proud to see great sportsmanship from all CVPS students.

ECO Team News The Eco Team would like to thank everyone for participating and supporting our Trash Free lunchbox initiative. The amount of trash we have each day in our school is decreasing but we still need your help to be a waste free school. Our Trash Free Tuesday program will be running every Tuesday throughout the year. But, why only do it one day a week? We are asking the children to challenge themselves to bring trash free lunchboxes every day. We have purchased some green bins to collect Return and Earn bottles and cans. Any proceeds will go towards buying resources to help our recycling program. If you would like to donate to our Return and Earn program you can bring in washed bottles and cans and place them in our bright, green bins in the Cola, Canteen and Stage 3 eating areas. Are you collecting the Woolworth Discovery Garden seed kits? If you would like to donate any to our school, we have a Discovery Garden collection bin in our front office. We will be planting these and selling them on behalf of the ECO Team.

Zoo Excursion On Friday, Kindergarten were up bright and early to go to Dubbo Zoo. We have been studying the needs of living things. We were excited to see all the different features the different animals have. One of our favourites was the Siamang Gibbons who put on a huge show for us, bellowing with their very unique voices that can be heard up to 4 kms. We even got to see a lion up close! Their paws are HUGE!!!!! Kindergarten zoo writing. "The Siamang Gibbon made a noise. It was funny." - Kaylynn "At the Dubbo Zoo we saw some Siamang Gibbons. The Siamang Gibbon looks fluffy and sounds like two things. Those things are a frog and a monkey. They are funny." - Maddy "I saw a Siamang Gibbon at the Dubbo Zoo. He was very loud. He sounded like a frog. He looks like a monkey. But he is not. He looks very fluffy to me." - Tessa "On Friday we went to the Dubbo Zoo and we went on the biggest bus that I had been on before." - Evie "On Friday we went to the zoo. Also, my favourite animal was the giraffes. The giraffes all had different spots. They were all the way down the back." - Poppy

ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school. I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during class time between 14 - 25 October. A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey was sent home with our Years 4-6 students yesterday. If you do not want your child to participate, please return the form to school by Friday. Josie at State Softball Congratulations to Josie Meyers who is representing the Western Region in Softball at North Curl Curl this week. We hope you enjoy this wonderful sporting opportunity. Holidays and return to school It has been a wonderful term full or learning and achievement and this Friday is the last day of Term 3. School holidays will run for two weeks with everyone returning for Term 4 on Monday, 14th October. All students will return in summer uniform next term. I would like to wish all of our families a safe and restful break. See you next term! Michelle Neaverson-Smith Principal
