Book Character Parade What a wonderful event! Thank you to Miss Shady for her organisation of such a colourful and successful parade. A big thank you also to our parents/carers who created such amazing costumes. The Open Classroom visits were just delightful as our wonderful students shared how reading is their Super Power. This years parade saw more students from across the school taking part and more parents/carers attending the parade. Thank you to all involved in making this event so successful. School Administrative & Support Staff Recognition Week 2019 Each year we celebrate the contribution of our wonderful School Administrative and Support Staff (SAS Staff) to the success of the school and to all studentseducation. Whether they work in our office, the library, classrooms or in the school grounds, all our valued SAS Staff play an important role. Thank you to our dedicated and hard-working SAS Staff who contribute in so many ways, each and every day. Whooping Cough Whooping cough (also called pertussis) began increasing across NSW towards the end of 2018, especially in children between the ages of 5 and 14 years. NSW Health anticipates that this increase will continue into 2019. School-aged children who are infected with whooping cough usually experience a troubling cough that can persist for months, but they rarely get severe illness. What can you do to prevent whooping cough? 1. Make sure vaccinations are up to date for all family members 2. Be alert for symptoms of whooping cough 3. Keep coughing kids home, to prevent them spreading the infection to others, and see your GP to get them tested for whooping cough For more information on Whooping Cough and vaccination visit the NSW Health Website State Carnivals Congratulations to Rachel Channon who is representing the Western Area Touch Football team in her home town this week and Tully Robertson who has travelled to Richmond to compete at the Rugby Union State Carnival. What a wonderful sporting opportunity for you both. Enjoy your week! Zone Athletics Congratulations to the 24 students who have qualified for the Western Athletics Carnival in September, including all 4 relay teams from CVPS. Well done and good luck to these students at the carnival in a few weeks. Wendy Hogben Deputy Principal

Environmental Team You may have seen the wonderful work on our school Facebook Page of the Cudgegong Environmental Team on our waste audit day this term. As part of that day, the students were motivated to make a change in our school to reduce the amount of waste we have on a daily basis. In Week 7 of this term, we would like to introduce a ‘Trash Free Tuesday’ where students are encouraged to have waste-free lunchboxes. We will be tallying the results each week with the hope that we can have more waste-free days. We really need everyone’s support to make a difference to our environment. There are many more exciting projects that we are introducing over the coming months to reduce the amount of waste in our school and into our community. Here are some ideas on packing a healthy, waste-free lunchbox. http://kidsfoodtalk.com.au/contents/en-us/d31_naked-wrapper-free-food.html Thank you, Rebecca Daniell

MUDGEE NORTH-WEST LEGACY - Legacy Badge Day, 6 September 2019 One unique organisation stands by the dependants of veterans who gave their lives or health in the service of their nation. Legacy cares for the families of defence force personnel killed in war or other hazardous service,

in peacekeeping operations or in accidents whilst training for war, and those who have died subsequently or are incapacitated. Caring for this extended family is a big task as we seek to assist them in coping with their lives, both financially and emotionally, whether they are young or old. We help organise housing, education, medical expenses and important special things, like simple companionship. Legacy is funded by public donations, which enable us to

perform our legacy of care. There are many widows and dependants in Mudgee North West Division who depend on Legacy. Badges are available at our office at 133 Market Street, Mudgee, and Bunnings Mudgee during Legacy

week, as well as various locations in other towns within our Division on Badge Day. We also have pens, wristbands and Army, Navy, Nurse, Digger and Air Force bears. For enquiries please call: 1800 356 550 or 6370 8600

Garden Club Why grow a garden? We asked Google, and one blog (thesmilinggardener.com) says: So why grow a garden? Maybe for you it's: To get more physical exercise To relieve stress and exercise your mind To explore your creativity To sequester carbon and water while creating oxygen To increase the value of your house (or school!) To grow organic food To create a peaceful space To learn something new Last week we sowed more summer veggie seeds, manured and mulched the citrus, turned the compost and started digging out a weedy tree sapling to make space for some food-bearing trees. Garden Club is on every Thursday 1-2pm. We also have little jobs we need help with any time, like making up some portable mesh trellises for peas / beans - can you help? Give us a hoy!
