Designated School Intake Area As part of the revision to the NSW Enrolment Policy each Department of Education school across New South Wales will be issued with a designated school intake area. The Department of Education establishes designated school intake areas to manage its resources efficiently and effectively. Designated intake areas allow for the better use of existing school assets and minimise the need for demountable buildings to accommodate non-local enrolments. The NSW Enrolment Policy relies on the identification of a local school for every student to meet the obligations of the Education Act and set out the procedures for enrolment. The Director Educational Leadership for the Mudgee Network has provided me with the Engagement version of our designated intake area for Cudgegong Valley PS and requested that I discuss the proposed boundaries with our school community. I have been asked to provide feedback by the end of next week to allow for consideration, response and finalisation of this work. I would like to hold a consultation meeting next Tuesday, 10th September at a time that is most convenient for those members of our community interested in providing feedback on our designated intake area. If you are interested in participating in this engagement strategy then please go to the following link and indicate your preferred time for this meeting. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/IntakeAreaMeeting It is important to note that the designated intake area for our school has changed and that, in accordance with the revised policy, this will have implications for any non-local students wishing to enrol at our school. Previously, the public school zoning applied within a radius of 3 kilometres from the Mudgee town centre and parents of children who lived outside this 3km radius could choose which public school they would like their child to attend. All areas surrounding Mudgee (and across the state) will now be zoned. Green Day - Birds, Bats and Biodiversity Our Stage 3 students will again be participating in Watershed Landcare's Green Day this year. Our students will head across to the Showground on Thursday and throughout the day they will be involved in workshops focusing on raising awareness of our local area and ways individuals and organisations can support sustainability. Writer and "Birdman", Sean Dooley is the keynote speaker at Green Day this year along with workshops being run by the Royal Botanical Gardens; National Parks and Wildlife Service; Department of Primary Industries and Environment (formerly Office of Environment and Heritage); as well as local businesses and individuals. Participation in Green Day forms another part of our school's Environmental Education plan. Trash-Free Tuesday Today saw all of our classes participating in our very first Trash-Free Tuesday. This involved each class completing an audit of the trash that was contained in their lunchboxes yesterday and then comparing it to the amount of trash students had in their lunchboxes today. At the writing of this newsletter I don't actually have the data from today but can I suggest that perhaps during dinner tonight your child may be able to tell you the difference that Trash-Free Tuesday made in their classroom. More to come via the school's Facebook page later in the week. Anti-Bullying Strategy at CVPS You may have noticed recently on our school Facebook page a number of posts highlighting our anti-bullying strategy at Cudgegong Valley Public School and providing links to valuable resources. As a Positive Behaviour for Learning school, our vision is that our students do their best by being responsible learners who are safe and respectful, and bullying has no place here. It is our aim at Cudgegong Valley to do our very best to reduce student bullying behaviours. Although, at times, this can be challenging it's important that we work together as a whole school community to achieve this.

Notes sent home last week: Canteen Meal Deal

Mini-Harvests and Tastes Each week we try to have something to taste from the garden. This is how Kitchen Gardens work - a little bit of regular pottering and planting means there's always something to offer, even if it's just a handful of fresh herbs, lettuce leaves or silverbeet to add to shop-bought ingredients. Last Thursday we enjoyed a very yummy silverbeet and spring onion frittata. These are simple and easy to make and a great for popping into lunchboxes for a healthy, waste-free lunch. It's been wonderful to have two new volunteers join us in the garden in recent weeks, one of the garden club kids was SO excited to see her grandma in the garden. And thanks to Leigh for making the Frittata! Lunchtime gardening: Thursdays 1-2pm.

Trash-Free Tuesday Yep! Our Eco-Committee has kicked off the first Trash-Free Tuesday this week. Cudgee families are encouraged to reduce or eliminate lunchbox waste every Tuesday to cutback on the amount of waste that goes to the landfill near Mudgee. Here are some top tips for reducing lunch waste - if you're not sure where to start, just pick one thing to change and see how you go. * Make your own 'single-serves': Serve your own yoghurt, biscuits and cheese/dip into reusable containers. * Ditch the cling wrap and ziploc bags: Sandwiches can be placed straight into a snug-fitting reusable container. * Leftovers for lunch - some dinnertime leftovers make great lunch ingredients. Cold roast meat, rissoles, tuna/pasta bake, potato or pasta salad. Ensure to pack an ice brick to keep it food-safe. Low Waste Lunches don’t need to be fancy, expensive or time-consuming. Just simple things! One class trialled a Trash-Free Tuesday earlier this term and found that they easily reduced their rubbish from 77 to 34 pieces. Imagine the same reduction school-wide! Good luck and please get in touch with your child's teacher if you have any questions / comments.

Our school rejects all forms of bullying behaviours, including online or cyber bullying by maintaining our commitment to providing a safe, inclusive and respectful learning community to promote student wellbeing. We are committed to employing evidence-based approaches and strategies that promote a positive climate where bullying is less likely to occur. Our students are taking the lead here! You may remember back in Term 1 when we celebrated ‘Bullying-No Way Day” our Student Representative Council led this strategy. They are once again taking the led with a renewed whole school focus around how to “Be an upstander, Not a bystander” following tomorrow's performance by Brainstorm Productions "The Protectors".
