All applications must be made online at www.shsocplacement.org.au . P&C Meeting Just a reminder that our next P&C meeting is this Thursday in the staffroom starting at 7pm. It would be great to have some new faces join us!! Enviro Ed Workshops - All Packaged Out Mid-Western Regional Council is supporting our schools Sustainability Education Program by running interactive workshops, designed and conducted by Impact Environmental Education, with the majority of our classes next week. During these 1 hour sessions students will discover the function and abundance of packaging in our lives, and learn about how much of this packaging ends up in our local landfill. By identifying the types of packaging their homes and our school generates, students then explore ways to reduce the packaging they consume, and therefore reduce their waste to landfill and their impact on our precious local environment. These workshops are being run as part of our war on waste at Cudgegong Valley Public School. Connecting Country Schools We live in a digital age where our students need new knowledge and skills to succeed in their studies today and their lives ahead. Modern teaching practices require reliable access to the internet and online learning materials. This means schools need strong and extensive wireless infrastructure to support future- focused learning. The 2017/2018 state budget for NSW included funding to improve wireless services and internet access in regional schools under the Connecting Country Schools (CCS) project. To hold digital age jobs our students will need to: think critically solve problems creatively work in teams communicate clearly in a range of media continue to learn new and rapidly-evolving technologies. Improved wireless infrastructure will assist students to learn and grow these skills. Connecting Country Schools wireless infrastructure upgrades will provide more chances for our students and teachers to connect and collaborate. The installation of our new wireless system, including 39 new wireless access points (WAP), 4 of these being new external access points, will mean that no matter where a student is in the school they will have fast, reliable access to the Net. Installation of the new system will take place next week. Fun Run It was beautiful weather for our School Fun Run on Monday morning. Money can still be raised this week which will go towards our school multi-surface sports court. A reminder that all students in Years 4-6 will run the Cross Country on Friday.

Garden Club We kicked off Term 2 last Thursday with a freshly-picked, super crunchy green salad. The variety is ‘Great Lakes’ by Diggers club, highly recommended! After a bite to eat we commenced the final harvest of two summer crops: tomatoes and zucchini. These are annual plants that only live for one growing season. Tomatoes were sorted into greens, reds and rotten! Many of the green tomatoes will still ripen on a sunny window sill. The zucchinis are called Tromboncino and can be somewhat treated like a pumpkin when they turn this beautiful colour (soup anyone?). Class 1R are germinating snow peas in pots as part of a unit on Water in Science this term, so we cleared a spot ready for the class to plant. Garden Club is every Thursday lunchtime 1-2pm. Our AGM will be on Monday 27

th

May at 3.20pm – all welcome.

Tennis

Our school tennis team travelled to Dunedoo last Wednesday. Our team of Skye, Phoebe, Toby, Callum and Jason played some wonderful tennis and won 5 sets to 3.

We had a fantastic day and thoroughly enjoyed competing against the children from Dunedoo. Our team showed great sportsmanship and are to be commended on their behaviour. A big thank you to Cate Simpson for driving half the team to Dunedoo. Well done team!

Dance Groups On Thursday, our two dance groups travelled to the Gulgong Prince of Wales Eisteddfod to compete in the Open School Dance Group section. A huge congratulations to the Infants group for taking out first place, and to the Primary group for coming in at a close second. Miss Fitzgerald and Mrs Priest commend the students for their hard work and personal growth. Thank you also to the parents who assisted on the day. We appreciate your continued support.

Car Park This is a reminder to all of our Cudgegong Valley community that there is no parking on school grounds for parents and carers. The car park at the front of the school is a STAFF CAR PARK only. Can I ask those parents who have been driving into this car park of a morning and/or afternoon to park to please stop doing this. Expression of Interest for relieving General Assistant Due to unforeseen circumstances we are again calling for an Expression of Interest for the relieving GA position at the school. This position will be full-time. An expression of interest addressing the criteria, of no more than 1 page in length should be submitted, along with a CV briefly outlining qualifications, recent employment history and relevant skills to Michelle Neaverson-Smith, Principal at [email protected] by 5pm on Monday, 20th May, 2019. Please ensure to include two referees who are familiar with you and able to discuss your professional abilities and suitability for this position. A copy of the expression of Interest can be collected from the Front Office or found on the school’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cvpsmudgee and the CVPS Skoolbag app. I would like to take this opportunity to thank both Bob Thyrd and Rob Meyers who have been working in this position this year. Winter Uniform A reminder that all students should now be in full winter uniform. Michelle Neaverson-Smith Principal
