Year 1 Red Hill Excursion

Last Tuesday and Wednesday, Year One visited the Environmental Studies unit at Red Hill in Gulgong. The children were very excited about the trip and thoroughly enjoyed the bus ride out to Gulgong. The children were divided into two groups, and set off to learn about life in ‘the olden days’. One group found out what school was like in an old bush school. They even had to dress in olden day clothes! They discovered handwriting was very tricky with chalk and a slate or even with a pen and ink. Many turned their hand to knot tying and needlework. The second group learnt about games children played long before Playstations and ipads! It was great fun doing three-legged races, sack races, quoits and the good old egg and spoon race! After a quick break, the children swapped groups and experienced a little more of what life was like in the ‘olden days’. After lunch, the groups went off to make a camp on the goldfields and pan for gold. Many of the children were sure they had struck gold and would be very rich. It look a great deal of concentration to do this task correctly. Meanwhile, the other group learnt about household chores, made butter and ate damper. Many children enjoyed trying their hand at churning the cream to make butter. They especially liked eating the damper with the butter and golden syrup! The excursion was a great experience for all the children and the staff at Red Hill made us feel very welcome. Well done Year One. A great day out!

This years participants in the ‘Let’s Connect’ Kindergarten Orientation Program enjoyed four sessions of fun and learning. Pictured are some of our Little Lions who found their ROAR!

Garden Club News As we started in Week 5, the Garden Crew are exploring ways busy families can reduce landfill waste coming out of our kids lunch boxes. The key to reducing lunch waste is using a reusable container. Tip #2: Buy your favourite yoghurt in a big tub and serve portions in a reusable container with a spoon. Yoghurt pouches do not get recycled, so pretty much every pouch that is sold ends up in landfill. The good news is making the change to a larger tub (that you can recycle) is pretty easy! If you're a pouch-loving tragic why not give this a go before end of term! Good luck! Find CVPS Garden Club on Facebook.
