The boys started the game strong, going straight onto the attack. Within the first 10 minutes of the match Canowindra were awarded a spot penalty due to an Orange hand ball in the box. The Orange keep-er made a great save to stop the penalty, however Cayless was able to convert, making the score 1-0. Canowindra stayed strong and continued on the at-tack. Eli was next to score for Canowindra coming from a beautiful ball from a corner. Canowindra played defensive for a while and Orange were keen to get the ball. They left Connor Munroe standing alone on the half way line. Ethan saw the opportunity and played a high kick over the Orange team for Connor to run on to and calmly run half the length of the field and slot

the ball away nicely, making the half time score 3-0. During the second half the boys continued to go on the attack and pressure Orange’s defence. Orange had a goal kick, which Dusty pounced on quickly and scored in the bottom corner, taking Canowindra to a 4-0 lead. At this stage we thought it was safe to change keepers, giving Luke a run on the field and Jordey Smith taking on the goalie role. Luke was then able to score

A special thank you to Kirsty Smith who supplied the ‘magical’ oranges to the boys at half time. Kirsty also gave her time to help set up and pack away the nets before and after the game, which was very appreciated. Thanks also to Mitch Stanley for refereeing the game and Jamie Austin and Wade Kinsela for being linesmen. Great job boys. The boys next game will be in Orange at Jack Brabham Park on Friday the 17th June. This will be a gala day for Rounds 3, 4 and 5. The girls will also play on this day in Orange. Again, we will require drivers for this day.

We wish them all good luck.

NSW Premiers Sporting ChallengeOur school has registered to participate in the 2016 NSW Premier’s Primary School Sport Challenge. The purpose of the challenge is to encourage students to participate in sport, games and physical activity ¬and to have more students, more active, more often! Over a ten week period from Monday 23rd May-Friday 12th August, all classes K-6 will be monitoring physical activity we do during class time, at recess and lunch as well as during sport. What we do outside school hours will also count towards the Challenge award. We would especially like to invite all our families to support us in encouraging students’ healthy use of leisure time and to experience the joy of being active together. Each student should have received a challenge log book to record their physical activity. Physical activity is valued for its physical, social and emotional benefits. It also helps young people to develop communication skills, confidence and resilience while having fun with family and friends.

Rugby League after school Sporting Schools GrantEvery Tuesday afternoon NSW Rugby League is hosting a skills, drills and games afternoon for K-2 at 3-3.45pm and Years 3-6 at 3.45-4.30pm for the next 3 weeks. If you are interested in this initiative for your son or daughter please meet at our school oval under the COLA. These sessions will be run by NSW Rugby League, not the school and are free.

Infants ExcursionInfants students will be attending a wonderful perfor-mance of the very well-known story, Snugglepot and Cuddlepie at the Orange Civic Theatre on Tuesday the 28th June. The performance begins at 10am. Buses will be leaving at 8.45am. Please ensure that your child can get to school by this time on the day. Recess, lunch, water bottles and hats will be required as normal. The cost of the excursion is $25. This needs to be paid at the office by Wednesday 22nd June 2016. Head LiceWe have had several cases of head lice this term. Please ensure you are vigilant and check your child’s hair. If there are live head lice, please do not send your child to school until they have been treated effectively. When there are live head lice there will be eggs, these hatch every 7 days, so treatment will need to continue for up to 7-10 days in order to break the cycle. Please contact the school if you are having difficulty and we can help you with this situation.

PSSA Rugby LeagueThe next round of the Rugby League PSSA knockout is Tuesday 14th June. The game will be at home starting at 12noon. All supporters welcome. Permission notes to come home soon.
