Parent-Child Mother goose ProgramThe Parent-Child Mother Goose Program® is a fun group experience for parents and their babies (birth to 12 months) that focuses on the pleasure and power of learning rhymes, songs and stories
Friends of the Library Big Book Sale!The Friends of the North Vancouver District Public Library are hosting one of their legendary book sales this October.
Books, CDs, and DVDs will be on sale for 50 cents to $2. On Sunday everything is 1/2 price. Or, fill a bag of books for $3 or a box of books for $6 on Sunday. Please bring your own bag to carry your purchases.
Location Lynn Valley Main Library Community Room, Lynn Valley Village
Dates Friday, October 26, 10:00am - 7:00pm and times Saturday, October 27, 10:00am - 4:00pm Sunday, October 28, noon - 4:00pm
Proceeds go towards projects of the Friends of the Library, a non-profit organization dedicated to the support and enhancement of North Vancouver District Public Library.

Capilano Branch Library Wednesdays, 10:30am - 11:30am October 24 to December 12 (8 weeks) Register starting Wednesday, October 10, at 10:00am at 604-987-4471, ext 8175 or in person at Capilano Branch Library.
Lynn Valley Main Library Thursdays, 10:30am - 11:30am October 25 to December 13 (8 weeks) Register starting Wednesday, October 10, at 9:00am at 604-984-0286, ext 8141 or in person at Lynn Valley Main Library.
Space is limited. No registration by email. Please register at one location only. Registrants may not register on behalf of others.
Spooktacular Halloween Puppet ShowThursday, October 25, 4:00pm - 4:45pm Capilano Branch Library
Join us at Capilano Branch Library for a wonderfully fun Spooktacular Halloween Puppet Show. Dress up in your Halloween finest and enjoy some stories, songs and a very special puppet show. All ages are welcome.
Free; no registration required.
Book BuddiesTuesdays, October 9 to November 27, 4:00pm - 7:00pm Capilano Branch Library
Book Buddies is a program that matches children ages 6 to 10 with teen reading mentors. During weekly half-hour sessions, Big Book Buddies listen to their Little Buddies read, read aloud to them and play literacy-based games. Book Buddies provides encouragement for children to improve reading skills in a fun environment.
Free; registration required. Call 604-987-4471, ext. 8175 to register your child for this eight-week program. This is a pilot program and is only offered at our Capilano Branch at this time.

SFu Philosopher’s Café Series Wednesday, October 10, 7:00pm – 8:45pmThe SFU Philosopher’s Café is your chance to debate philosophical issues in a group setting. Join us on October 10 as we discuss world violence. Harvard psychologist Steven Pinker argues that contrary to appearances humans are generally getting less violent. Does this argument fit our own views about the state of world violence? Free; no registration required.

LiBRaRY BOOk CLUBsThere is still a few spots available in a couple of NVDPL’s yearly book clubs. Register now to secure your spot. Book clubs run monthly until June 2013. Cost for book clubs is $25 per person with payment collected at the first meeting. Registration is by phone or in person.
