We all wonder, atone time or another,howagroupofpeoplecanwatchapersonbe-ingbeatenorrobbed,orfallillinacrowdedmalloronbusystreetcorner,andnoone responds.Weseetheravagesofwar, watch people dieonabattlefield,seedis-abledveteranstryingtoadjustto lifewithartifi-cial limbsandseemtoacceptitas“normal”intoday’sculture.Itseemsasthoughthepainandsufferingofothersmat-ter little toanyoneex-cept theoneenduring

thehardships. The Psalmist whowrote Psalm 94 wastroubled by the evil inthe world. He lookedaroundandsawpeopleoppressed. He wasawareofcallousedlead-erswhoseonlyconcernwasforthemselves.Hewastroubledbythelackof concern forwidowsandchildrenandasked,“God,ifYoucreatedearsforpeopletohear,andeyesforpeopletosee,whydon’tYouhearthecriesandseethesuffer-ingofthosewhomYoucreated?”DosomethingGod!So,hasGod,likeus,become insensitive tothe needs of peopleandtheconditionoftheworld?DoesHenotcareaboutwhatishappeningtoHiscreation?IndeedHedoes.“Hewillrepaythemanddestroy them for theirwickedness,” says thePsalmist. There were two things IneededtogetatFoodCity.IthadstartedtorainandIHATE

gettingmyheadwetsomysondroppedmeoffatthedoor.IknewitwouldbeaquicktripsoItoldhimtostayclose.Maskon,Ienteredthestorereadingthesignspostedeverywhere. Quick as a wink, I mademy purchases and was backat the door. I saw his silvercarparkedrightoutside.Hownice! I thought. He knew Ididn’twanttogetmyheadwet!Ihurriedtothecar,openingthedoorinarush.Onelegin,Iwassittingdownintheseat,whenaCOMPLETESTRANGERsaid,“Umm,ma’am,Ithinkyoumaybe in the wrong car.” Horri-fied, I jumped out like a ninja, “Ohmygoodness!I’msosorry!”Ilaughedalittletoohysterical-ly.“Ithoughtthiswasmyson’scar!Oh,THAT’SthesilvercarIwaslookingforoverthere!”Ipointed across the lot and fled

thescene. Icackledovertomyson’scar.Hehadseenmeacrosstheway and was curious what Ihadbeendoingattheotherve-hicle. Here’sthething:whenmyhead gets wet in the rain, itchillsmetomybonemarrow.Fiveminutes later Ihavethesniffles. Ten minutes later I’m sure Ihaveascratchythroatandneedsomeover-the-coun-ter cold medicine. (THIS ISNOTTHETIMETOGETSICK!)Ihadletmyfearofgettingacolddistractme.Inmyhurrytostaydry,IrushedtoaplaceIdidn’tneedtobe. RegardingtheCoronavirus,Iwasready:maskedupandsixfeetawayfromeveryoneelse.Irace-walkedin,usedtheself-check-out,andthensprintedout.Boom!But,thenamuch

smaller concern had me allfreakedout.Hasfeareverdis-tractedyou? Thankfully, I can go toGod’sWordforanapplicabletruestory.Thediscipleswerecaught in a storm-actually, asquallwhichwasmuchworse.Matthew14reportsthatithadscaredthewilliesoutofthemeventhoughseveralwereexpe-rienced fishermen. The waves were too high, wind too fierce, thundertooloud!WhenJesusappeared,theythoughtHewasaghost! Peter,alwaystheonequick-esttospeak,yelledout,“Ifit’sYou,callmetocomeoutthere!”Jesuscalled,“Come,”andPeterdid. For just a bit, he walked rightouttherewithJesus!Itwas awesome! Nobody hadEVERdoneTHATbefore!DidPeterhaveswag? Then, ina

nanosecond,hegotdistracted.Thewind,thewaves,thethun-der!Suddenly,hefoundhim-selfwherehedidn’twanttobe!Verse31 ismy favoritepart:immediately-notafterteachinghimalessonortryingtomakeapoint,butimmediately-Jesusreachedoutandgrabbedhim!ShewandptL!Hehashadtodothatsooomanytimestome! Everydayitseemsthere’smoretobeconcernedabout.Covid19islargerandcloserbytheminute!Likethedisciples-OK,andme-wecanbebraveone minute and scared thenext. Thatday, Jesus invitedPetertowalkwithHimthroughuncertainwaters.HeinvitesustowalkwithHim,too. Onabrightnote:sinceIstillhadmymaskon,thatcompletestrangerwon’teverrecognizemeifheseesmeout!

--- Inmy50yearsofattemptedGospelpreaching,ithasneveroccurredtomethatIwouldeverunder-taketowritesuchasarticleasthis. Intherecentweeks,wehaveundergoneasitua-tion that has never occurred before that has affected the whole world. This Corona virus has affected mil-lionsofpeopleandisverymuchfearedintheworld.This situation that we find ourselves in has caused allleadersofcivilandhealthorganizationstocon-siderplanstocopewithittoprotectitfromcontinu-allyspreading.Andonewaythathasbeenchosenistopreventthegatheringtogetherofanygroupsforrecreationorforreligiousworshipaswell.Soto-day,manywhofeelthattheyowetheirallegiancetotheLordarestillgatheringtogethertoconductsomeformofworship. Now,eventhoughIamsympathetictotheiref-forts,IknowfromtheBiblethattheyarenotactingproperlytoitscommands. Firstofall,allwhomaybeactingascivilauthori-tiesarenotattemptingtowithholdanyonefromthepracticeoftheirfaithorareattemptingtooverthrowtheirfaith.So,whatishappening? Believeitornot,thesemenwhoareattemptingtostoporpreventthevirusfromkillingmorepeopleareinrealityworkingasministersforgood,eventhoughtheymaynotbegodlymenthemselves;butthecivillawstheyusearefromGodhimself.Wouldyou take just a little of your time and read Romans 13:1-7.HeretheinformationfromourGodisthatallmen are to be subject to the power or authority ofGod.TherebyGodhasgivenauthoritybothinre-ligionandcivilgovernmentintothehandsofmen.Thesemenhavebeenappointedorelected,stilltheymustactsoastooverseetotheneedsandprotec-tionofallwhomhemayserve.EvenasGodordainedthesemen,manyofthesemenmaynotevenbemenofGodthemselves,yetcivilgovernmentisofGod.

TheTenCommandmentswasagoodexample. Sothen,ifcivilgovernmentisofGod,evensoisthefoundationoflaw,order,regulations.SoanycivilservantorPresidentorgovernorwhoadministersthelawsofstateaccordingtotheConstitutionaretheministersofGodforthegood.WhereonGod’swordsays that we are to be in subject for our conscience’s sake.JustascivilgovernmentsaregivenbytheorderofGod,theyaregivenforthedefense,forsupport,andhappinessofanysociety.So,anywhotransgresstheselawsexposethemselvesasbeingagainstcivillawbutalsotoguiltintheirownconscience,becauseinreality,itisasinagainstGodwhogavethesecivillawsinthebeginning. Thenagain,in2 Peter 2:13-15, it iswritten,“Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; 14Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. 15For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:” NowIwilladmitthattheserestrictionsplaceduponusbycivilauthorityishardforaChristiantosubmitunto,eventhoughatthistimethereisnore-portofthevirushereinEstillCounty.Yet,wearestillpartofthewholestateuponwhomourgovernorhasplacedtheserestrictions.AndtorightlyservetheLord,wemustabidebythemtopleaseourLord. Inclosing,Ineverimaginedthatadaylikethiswouldeveroccurinmylifetime;yet,hereweareen-gulfedinit.So,whatisapersontodoasaChristian?Myadviceis,touseeverymeansatyourdisposaltoattempttoservetheLordinanycapacityaslongasitdoesnotviolatecivillaw.Youhavethenetworkandalltheservicesthatyoucancommunicatewithoth-ers; and getting on the phone still works just as well. Andyes,youcancommunicatewithusbyreadingourarticleseachweekalso.
