Estill County Courthouse News Library Happenings Estill Public Library by Shannon Horn January 23rd, 2019 Hello everyone! I do hope that everyone is well. Here are some up- dates on what is going on at ECPL! Children’s Programming Holiday Competition I am really excited about this competition. I have picked four ma- jor holidays that are going to be competition with each other. How so? Here at the library, we have lots of books that go along with these holidays – Valentine’s Day, Hallow- een, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. So during the month of each holiday I will be placing these books out on display for checkout. Whichever hol- iday has the most books checked out will be the winning holiday. I haven’t figured out what the prize for the winning holiday will be, but I going to be thinking of something fun. Storytime This last week I had Wednesday off so we didn’t have Storytime at the Library. However, we are back in ac- tion this week. I’m so excited to be moving on through the alphabet with our Wednesday Storytimers. We are talking about the letter B and C over the next two weeks. I’m incorporat- ing the transportation theme again with these letters. We built different types of paper airplanes when we talked about the letter A. For letter B on the 23rd we built an aluminum foil boat and tested how many pen- nies it would hold. On the 30th we will be making balloon cars! There are so many fun things going on with this group. If you have a 3-5 year old we would love for you to join us. Baby&Me Storytime My schedule was also different on Friday so we didn’t have Baby&Me Storytime either. Fridays are always so much fun, mostly because you just never know what the babies are going to do! They are so energetic, but they love to listen to the books or sing and dance along to the songs that I play at the beginning. I believe their favorite part though is at the end when I bring out books for them to look at on their own. They just love to sit and look at the pictures. I’m hoping to have a sensory day in the near future to help develop their senses as well as let them build a sense of exploration. Baby&Me Sto- rytime is at 10:30 on Friday morn- ings! LEGO Club LEGO Club has become a rather popular activity. Every week we have kids coming into the library to be creative. I’ve seen some really detailed, as well as very minimalis- tic, creations. The kids enjoy mak- ing stuff, but one of they also enjoy searching for the LEGO Moose each week. I hide a small LEGO moose around the library that the children have to find. When they find the moose they come to me and I have been giving them a small prize (pen- cil, bookmark, sticker, etc.) Teen Programming Teen Book Club I do believe our Teen Book Club is finishing up Inkheart and will be starting The Princess Bride soon! If you want to join for that just come to the next meeting on the 28th at 4:00. Katelyn also wanted me to mention that she will be doing a blind date with a book program in a few weeks! Be on the lookout for more informa- tion on that. It sounds quite interest- ing. I may join the Teen Book Club for that program. Adult Programming WhoDunIt Mystery Book Club If you would like to join The Who- DunIt Mystery Book Club stop by and pick up the book, Southermost by Silas House. Remember it will now be meeting on the first Monday of the month. The next meeting will be February 4th. Call the library at 723- 3030 for the location of the meeting. If you have any questions about our programs going on here at the li- brary just give us a call at 723-3030! Until next week!
