Borat spoof anthem played by mistakeSOURCE: NINEMSN AUSTRALIA

    Athletes from Kazakhstan have been

    left fuming after their national

anthem was mixed up with a spoof

version from the film "Borat" and

    played at a medal ceremony.

    Kazakh athlete Mariya Dmitriyenko

took out the 75 target event at the

10th Arab Shooting Championship inKuwait earlier this month,

the Huffington Postreports. Butinstead of hearing her national

    anthem, "My Kazakhstan", at the

medal ceremony she was forced to

endure a song mocking her country.

The spoof song, which featured in

Sasha Baron Cohen s movie "Borat:

    Cultural Learnings of America for

    Make Benefit Glorious Nation of

    Kazakhstan", praises the country for

    having "the cleanest prostitutes in

the region". It lists Kazakhstan s

    achievements as inventing "toffee

    and the trouser belt".

    Video of the incident shows

    Dmitriyenko remaining calm during

    the ceremony but, according to

    Radio Free Europe, other Kazakh

    athletes were livid.

    Her teammates immediately

    demanded organisers turn the song

off, but were told it was the official

    music authorities had provided. The

    Kazakh team eventually received an

    apology when the mistake was

    released and the medal ceremony

    was re-run.

What began as an innocent summer fling turned into happily ever after fortwo love-struck canines.

Despite the hot weather, more than 100 friends and family members met atthe clubhouse at the Palm Desert Resort Country Club on Sunday to watchthe bride, Scruffy Rubin, walk down a faux grass carpet aisle to her groom,Snickers Carter, who waited anxiously under a flower decorated trellis.Instead of the wedding march, entertainer Jeri Lynne, accompanied by alive band, sang "You Light Up My Life."

The first-class wedding thrown by the mother of the bride, Ernie Rubin, and the groom's mother, Ann Carter, both of Palm Desert - was completewith a wedding cake, open bar, reception and "priest" performing the vows. The shindig cost more than $5,000, Rubin said.

In lieu of gifts, Rubin and Carter asked for donations to benefit the OrphanPet Oasis Humane Society of the Desert in North Palm Springs. "In planningthis event Ernie and Ann wanted to make sure that a charity was involvedand they felt strongly about what we do at the society," said societyrepresentative and guest Jennifer Hamilton. "I'm not losing a son, I'mgaining a daughter-in-law," laughed Carter.

The four-legged wedding party consisted of a ring bearer, flower boy, groomsman and usher/security. Harry Farber, wearing a black collar

decorated with white dog bones, officiated at the ceremony. Ofcourse, every bride wants to look

her best on her wedding day --Scruffy included. Rubin dressedScruffy in a custom couture dress, leash and veil made by Jan Farber.Snickers donned a doggie tuxedodesigned by Spoiled Dog Design.June Berke's "son" Max, a Pug, washonored with the task ofgroomsman.

"When I heard about the event Iwas ecstatic. I thought what abrilliant way to raise money for acharity," Berke said, "I hope this will

enlighten people who take on a petto realize that they are more thanjust an animal, they are a lifetimetoddler."

Originally the two canines wantedjust an small, intimate wedding, butonce word of the upcoming pup-nuptials got out, Rubin and Carterwere flooded with requests toattend. "The whole thing just tookon a life of its own and keptgrowing and growing," Rubin said,

but that was OK because thedonations we collected for theshelter were just amazing." After theceremony the happy husband andwife spent the afternoon chasingeach other, and snacking on dogtreats while their owners and twolegged guests danced and mingled.

Putting faith in their union, the twocanines decided to forgo a pup-prenup.

Dentist Pulls All Ex's Teeth OutSOURCE: HUFFINGTON POST

A scorned dentist is facing jail

    time after surgically removing all

    of her ex-boyfriend's teeth after

    he dumped her, authorities in

    London said.

Marek Olszewski, 45, made themistake of scheduling an

appointment this week with his ex,

    34-year-old Anna Mackowiak, for

    a toothache, according to the

    Daily Mail.

    So Mackowiak allegedly did what

any burned beau with a set of

    pliers and some anesthetic would

do: she doped him up, pulled out

all his teeth, and wrapped his

    head with bandages so he

wouldn't notice until he left heroffice.

"I tried to be professional anddetach myself from my emotions,"she told the news site. "But when

I saw him lying there I justthought, 'What a b-----d.'"

Olszewski could tell somethingwas wrong when he awoke andcouldn't feel any teeth in hismouth. But he said Mackowiakassured him that he'd be fineonce the numbness woreoff, NDTV reported. "I didn't haveany reason to doubt her -- Imean I thought she was aprofessional," he said.

    Australian billionaire to

    build Titanic IISOURCE: THE TELEGRAPH

A maverick Australian mining billionaire, Clive

Palmer, plans to build the Titanic II and sail it from

England to New York by the end of 2016.

The replica of the ill-fated ship will be built at a

Chinese shipyard and will sail on its maiden voyage

accompanied by the Chinese navy. It will be

powered by diesel rather than coal but will

otherwise follow design plans approved by a

historical research team and, like its predecessor,

will have 840 rooms and nine decks.

Asked whether the new ship could sink, Mr

Palmer, Australia's fifth-richest person, said: "Of

course it will sink if you put a hole in it." Headded: "It will be designed as a modern ship with

all the technology to ensure that doesn't happen.

But, of course, if you are superstitious like you are,

    you never know what

    could happen.''

Mr Palmer said the boat will have the same

dimensions as the Titanic and will replicate its

design as closely as possible but will have "state of

the art engineering". The only differences will be

below the water line, he said, and will include a

bulbous bow for greater fuel efficiency and dieselgeneration, plus an enlarged rudder and bow

    thrusters for improved manoeuvrability.

"Titanic II will be the ultimate in comfort and luxury

with on-board gymnasiums and swimming pools,

libraries, high class restaurants and luxury cabins,"

    he said.

Mr Palmer, whose wealth is estimated at more than

3 billion, is well known in Australia for his

outlandish whims and gestures and controversial

views. He once bought Mercedes Benz cars for 55of his top employees after a particularly good year

and recently announced plans to set up a rival

domestic football league because his team, Gold

Coast United, was axed. The axing followed Mr

Palmer's decision to change his team's T-shirts and

replace the logo of the main sponsor with the

words "Freedom of Speech"; the sponsor was a

hotel chain with which Mr Palmer was embroiled in

    a legal dispute, .

Mr Palmer, a life member of the conservative

National Party, coupled his announcement of his

Titanic II plans with a declaration today that he

intends to run against the Treasurer, Wayne Swan,

in the Queensland seat of Lilley at the next

election. Mr Swan said on Twitter he was "over the

moon to fight in Lilley ... against Clive".

De Hooi Issue#57So, De Hoois 5th anniversary is

coming up on Saturday May 12th. I

was there for the grand opening. I

remember I didnt stay long, wasnt

    too impressed. For whatever reason

De Hooi felt long and cavernous and

back then I was a diehard BuGils pa-

    tron.

Back then I lived all the way in West

Jakarta as well, almost to the airport.

That must have been about the time I

started bugging Bart for a job.

Had heard he was opening another

bar in Blok M and I was coming to

the end of my first year contract with

English First. Im not sure who ended

up managing One Tree the first year

    but I contin- ued to

    b u g Bart

    f o r

    a

    j ob

    a n d

in the mean time signed up

for another year of teaching English

    with The British Institute.

After that year I ended up in Bali

around the same time Bart was

working on BuGils Bali and asked

him when he was ever going togive me a job.

Surprisingly enough Bart told me that

De Hooi was looking for a new man-

ager. Nick had had enough, I believe

Nick was pretty sure he was going to

drink himself to death and had to move on. I think thats the reason a lot of these bar managers never last that long.

So I got the job managing De Hooi and was scheduled to start in May of ahh 2008? Yeah, yeah. Bart told me just to go in and talk to Nick and

find out what I was supposed to do. Nick was just sitting there toodleing with his computer putting together a newsletter and told me ahh, whatd

he tell me? Didnt really tell me anything, just told me some basic stuff.

Since then De Hooi has grown quite a bit. Put the awning over the back patio, gained the second floor, put a bigger awning over the upstairs

balcony, finally got a sign on the street, dont know if anybody has ever noticed it.

Long story short, I didnt want to put this on the flier but did want to let my regulars know that on the anniversary there will be 20 free barrels of

beer. So if youve managed to read this far now you know.

Thanks for making De Hooi Southern Jakartas favorite beer joint.

    Cheers,

    Harry

Further goals fromAlex2,ano.g.(promptedbyanothergreatshotfromIna),Rodrigo,WillievBandJorismadeitsix.Ohyes,Joris,IneedtosaysomethingaboutJoris....hmmm,whattosay?Firstgoalofthe season....pity he didnt see it himself. He stretched out with his new green boots andpoked the ball goal-wards, the ball crossing the line as he lay prone with his now obligatorymatch-ending injury. This time it was his head, which scarily seems almost as fragile as hisknees,whichtooktheblow.PoorJoris,hereallyshouldscoremorebecause,despitewhatJaspersays,hesabetterthanaverageplayer.PerhapsifhelearnedtheJIFLoffsiderulesabitbetter.EveryoneplayinginJIFLknowsthattherefereeshaveadifferentinterpretationof offside than is the norm. We are all aware, for example, that despite the players positionwhen the ball is played, if he is in the opponents half when he receives the ball, he is likelytobecalledoffside.Jorisneedstounderstandthatthisrulealsoapplieswhenrunningontoyour own ball, having beaten a player. No need to pass the ball to a teammate - not in thisrefs book - the mere cheek of being closest to the opponents goal is more than enough tomeritawhistle.Jorisisluckyhedidntgetbookedforlaughing.

Gav of the Lions is likewise lucky to escape a booking for laughing at one of the refsdecisions; this time in awarding him a penalty. Neil (the chatty one) DID get a booking for a tackle from behind and is rumored tohaveusedthewordhenceforthinrebukingJorisforaskingforacardtobeshown.....surelythereisnoplaceforsuchlanguageonthefootball pitch!

Henceforth, I will try to spread the attention amongst the team a bit more as it seems we have some sensitive types who take offense atbeing overlooked. Readers are advised that in no way should they assume that anyone henceforth mentioned in these reports is eitherreally good, really bad or really sensitive.
