SUPERVISORY MANAGEMENT

MANAGING SUPERVISORY When the employee is promoted to a
supervisor new responsibilities and changing attitudes inevitably come into his supervisory management
The supervisor will be responsible of people, material, equipment and money in order he may finish his job in the best and economical way in the right time
MANAGING SUPERVISORY (CONT) The important tasks of the supervisor
include:
Planning, organizing, motivating, leading, controlling, monitoring work and evaluating the work of his team.
Building a good, efficient, productive team is one of the most important jobs of the supervisor
ACHIEVING THE TASK
The effective and efficient supervisor is clear what his task is.
Have short-term and long-term objectives.
He/she plans how to accomplish it,
He defines the roles of his staff, provides the resources needed by the staff to complete the job plugs any gaps.
Constantly evaluates the results.
Monitors progress towards the goals
TEAM MAINTENANCE
The supervisor must keep the team together and build a high morale.
Provide regular opportunities for briefing the team of his section.
Provide genuine consultation before reaching decisions affecting them.
Cooperate with team leaders. Ensure that there is a formal and fair grievance
procedure understood by all workers.
INDIVIDUAL NEEDS The supervisor will give his staff the right of
training.
He will see that each person gets a sense of personal achievement in his job.
Feels he is making a meaningful contribution. If his performance is unsatisfactory is told in what way and given help to improve.
He/she feels that his capabilities are matched by the responsibilities given him. Lastly, receives adequate recognition for his achievements
RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY
Authority means the power and the rights to do a management work or give orders (commend) to fulfill a duty.
Authority in management means that a person has been authorized to take certain actions and decisions. This means, power for those actions and decisions has been delegated to him by his senior manager.
RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY (CONT) When a person is given a responsibility,
he must also be given the power (Authority) to fulfill his/her duties.
Managers have responsibilities towards a number of different people or group of people.
