Hey! It’s been a long time. What’s up? 😄😉

Hello! Indeed, it’s been a long time. But, let’s catch up next time, okay? I’m kind of busy right now. I’m having difficulties on our lessons.

Well then, how can I help you? What is your lesson all about anyway?

It is about the 9 Elements of Digital Citizenship. We must give one example of each element. Too bad, we don’t have Internet connection at the moment.

Oh, we also had that in our Computer subject! Why don’t we apply the Digital Access right now? It is like, I am also giving you access in the Internet by helping you since you don’t have Internet connection yet. This element tells us that, as an Internet user, we must not keep the information within ourselves. We must share it so that no one is denied with knowledge. 👌

Page 9: Elements of Digital Citizenship

That is also what our teacher always tells us. She would always help and consider those who have no Internet connection at home. She would allow us to use the Computer Laboratory instead.

Now that you mentioned it, with what your teacher is doing at school, teaching you about Digital Citizenship, she is already applying the Digital Literacy.

Page 10: Elements of Digital Citizenship

DIGITAL LITERACYDo the students know how to use various digital technologies and how to assess legitimacy of web resources?

In school, we are always taught of how to do something properly. It is also the same in the Digital world, we must learn how to use the Internet appropriately. Never ever steal information, get information from reliable websites, and always cite the sources. Learn and understand the Digital world!

Page 11: Elements of Digital Citizenship

Yes. Have I told you that some of my clothes were bought online? It was more convenient for me since I have no time visiting malls. And recently, I sold my pre-loved clothes online and the money I earned from that, is the money I am using in buying my Lolo’s medicine.

Oh, I see. What about Digital Commerce? This is about selling and buying through Internet, right?

Page 12: Elements of Digital Citizenship

DIGITAL COMMERCEAre the students aware of the benefits and dangers of buying and selling online?

We are unaware that each information that we give to anonymous people could be a way for us to be framed for something we didn’t do. That is why it is important if the products that we buy are from a legitimate seller. In return, we must be loyal to what we have promised and be cautious so that you will not be labeled as a bogus buyer or an illegal seller.

Page 13: Elements of Digital Citizenship

No, because Digital Law exists. Scamming, hacking, plagiarism, and using Internet in a way of theft is a crime in the Digital world. Just like in the real world, if you do such crimes, you’ll go to jail.

Was it safe? Have you ever been scammed?

Page 14: Elements of Digital Citizenship

DIGITAL LAWDo the students understand how to use and share digital content and how to respect ownership by citing sources?

In our generation, it is common not to cite our sources. This is why most of us are actually violating a rule of the digital world. We students and users of this wonderful creation must understand its rules and regulations and how to properly use, share and respect its contents for us to enjoy fully the amazing world of cyberspace.

Page 15: Elements of Digital Citizenship

Does Cyber Bullying belong to that element?

Maybe in some cases, like when you hack someone’s account to use it for bullying. But you can apply that in the element, Digital Etiquette. This element must really be practiced so that hopefully there will be no more victims of Cyber Bullying.

Page 16: Elements of Digital Citizenship

DIGITAL ETIQUETTEDo the students know how to appropriately use technology?

Just like how we act when we want to impress the parents of our girlfriends or boyfriends or respecting our parents and teachers, we must apply the same courtesy in interacting with people on the internet. Most of us actually already know how to behave properly on the internet, we just tend to put aside this proper etiquette in order to become famous through improper and scandalous posts.

Page 17: Elements of Digital Citizenship

I pity those victims. Netizens need to be aware of their actions. Because words can hurt, even in the Digital world. Just like how it affects people in the real world.

Yes, you are right! Some users must use their Digital Rights and Responsibilities appropriately and knowingly.

Page 18: Elements of Digital Citizenship

DIGITAL RIGHTS &RESPONSIBILITIESDo the students understand that they have the right to safe and friendly digital communication and a responsibility to report users who threaten this?

In our world, we have rights and responsibilities. It also applies in the digital world, we must learn and engrave in our minds that we must exercise our right as a digital citizen as well as our responsibilities.

Page 19: Elements of Digital Citizenship

Yes. Just like what we are doing right now, we are applying Digital Communication. Good thing e-mails, private or direct messages, SMS, and others exist. For it is an undeniable convenience to all of us. It is, after all, the fastest and easiest way of exchanging messages.

Technology, indeed, made an immense influence to all of us. But we must use it wisely and responsibly.

Page 20: Elements of Digital Citizenship

DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONDo the students know what is appropriate to share through e-mail, texting, video-chatting and social media?

We are fond of using direct messages or private messages as a new way to communicate with others. It is actually a good thing that we are using it properly. We should always remember to avoid sending nude pics, sexual pictures or videos or that could destroy your life because just by a few computer codes they can hack into the system and retrieve every information and they could use it for blackmailing or frame you for things that you haven’t done.

Page 21: Elements of Digital Citizenship

I was very glad that you finally sent me a message. I thought you forgot about me because you left without notice. But still, I had a great night. Thank you for everything that you have taught me. I learned a lot. And btw, what about your Lolo? He’s taking medicines? What for?

About that, I left without letting you know because of only one reason. My Lolo got diagnosed with lung cancer and we had to leave immediately for his surgery. But now he’s already fine. And we’ll head home once everything is okay. Once he’s cured. 🙏

Page 22: Elements of Digital Citizenship

I’ll pray for his fast recovery.

Thank you very much! One thing I have learned from what happened to my Lolo is that we must make decisions that are good for ourselves and for everybody. Not those decisions that you know can cause you bad things. Just like how he got his sickness. He did not protect himself. He kept on doing what he wanted. Drinking and smoking. Until those caused him to be in his current state. It affected him like a virus, he suffered, and we did as well. But at least, we are all fine right now.

Page 23: Elements of Digital Citizenship

Just like in the Digital world. To protect ourselves virtually, we must have protections. This is where we must learn and apply the Digital Security or Self-Protection.

Page 24: Elements of Digital Citizenship

DIGITAL SECURITYDo the students know how to stay safe by using different passwords, virus protection, backing-up data, and being aware of identity theft, phishing, and other online scam?

We must have very strong passwords which consists of different sets of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and doesn’t contain any personal information. We must also have virus protection and we should also back-up our data because if our accounts will be infiltrated, the information within could be used for identity theft, phishing, and online scam.

Page 25: Elements of Digital Citizenship

Funny how we unconsciously see and apply Digital Citizenship in real life. Not only in the Cyber world. It can make us not just a responsible user of technology and the Internet but also a better person when interacting with other people and taking care of ourselves.

Yes. You’re right! And speaking of taking care of ourselves, it is already 10pm. We should apply Digital Health and Wellness. LOL. But, I really miss you and I hope that I’ll see you soon. I am really sorry for everything. Good night. xxx

Page 26: Elements of Digital Citizenship

DIGITAL HEALTH ANDWELLNESSAre you aware of the physical and psychological dangers of excessive Internet usage?

Like in our daily lives, we must also control our use of the internet because it can cause physical and psychological dangers like having poor eyesight and not being able to concentrate in class. In some extreme cases it can also cause people to commit violent crimes because of the influence of bloody, war-based games.

Page 27: Elements of Digital Citizenship

I’ll see you soon. Thank you for this night. Thank you for everything. Apology accepted albeit you have hurt me badly.

Just kidding. I miss you too. Call me, okay? Good night. xx
