Plagiarism• Ways technology help recognize and stop

plagiarism• Online technology, educators can subscribe to

a service and require students to upload their paper to the service’s site. The site compares papers with materials on the web. Some sites even compare papers turned in from previous semesters that detect that the papers were passed along. Some of the sites are free, some have subscriptions-based with fees that start at about $20.00 per year for a class of 30.

persons identity stealing another persons identity in which someone else by assuming that person’s identity.

• *Maintain computer security, for example by keeping their operating systems fully patched against known security vulnerabilities, running antivirus software and being cautious in their use of IT.

• The use of internet related technologies to harm other people in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile manner.

• This can be as simple as continuing to send e-mails to someone who has said they want no further contact with the sender, but it may also include threats, sexual remarks, pejorative labels, ganging up on victims by making them the subject of ridicule in forums, and posting false statements as fact aimed at humiliation

• The use of the internet or other electronic means to stalk or harass an individual, a group of individuals, or an organization

• Cyber stalkers meet the target their victims by using search engines, online forums, bulletin and discussion boards, chat rooms, and more recently through online communities

• Virus- a small software program that spreads from one computer to another computer and that interferes with computer operation

• Phishing- a way of attempting to acquire information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication

• Trojan horse- a software that appears to perform a desirable function for the user prior to run or install, but (perhaps in addition to the expected function)

Trojan may allow a hacker remote access to a target computer system. Once a Trojan has been installed on a target computer system, a hacker may have access to the computer remotely and perform various operations

• Worms- a self- replicating malware computer program, which allows uses a computer network to send copies of itself to other nodes (computers on the network), and it may do so without any user interventions

attached files or programs, or visit websites that are linked to such emails
