SHARING OUR GIFTS Autumn is the season for harvesting and sharing the fruits of our labors. This week’s scriptures use images of the harvest, family life, pregnancy, and investment to describe the abundant harvest in the reign of God. We discover that sharing the gifts we have been given brings eternal rewards for everyone. In the Gospel parable a master en-trusts his possessions to three servants before going on a journey. Each is given some tal-ents. What they do with those talents deter-mines what the master will do with them when he returns. How about us? What are we doing with our talents? MASS OF CONSOLATION

The bilingual Mass of Consolation will be held on Tuesday, November 28 at 7:00 p.m. The mass is for the com- munity to pray, support and be in the presence of friends experiencing loss during the holiday season. The names of parishioners whose funeral or memorial service was held this year at St. John Vian-ney will be read. Their family members will come forward with tea candles to place on the memorial table. All are welcome. Fel-lowship and refreshments immediately after the mass.

Esta Misa es para orar en comunidad, apoyarnos y estar en la presencia de amigos que han sufrido pérdidas durante estas temporadas festivas. Theme: Jesus teaches that when the Son of Man comes in glory, he will judge the nations, sepa-rating the sheep from the goats.

Scripture: ''I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink’... Then the righteous will answer him,

'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink?...'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.' Matthew 25:35, 37, 40

One day, Jesus was speaking to a group of people and he said to them, "I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat...I was thirsty and you gave me a drink." "When did we do that?" they asked. Jesus answered them, "If you did it for one of the least of my children, you did it for me."

We have a lot to be thankful for, don't we? The question is, are we willing to share it with those who are not so fortu-nate? Will you share what you have with those who are in need?

Remember, it is the same as doing it for Jesus!

Heavenly Father, you have given us so much. May we be willing to share it with those in need.

In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Reflect: If a word or phrase from the Gospel captures your heart, sit quietly for several minutes, repeating it to yourself and asking God to show you how it applies to your life.

Or reflect and possibly journal on the following question: What connections or similarities have you seen between yourself and people you’ve met who are hurting or in need?

Family Discussion: In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches us that we will be judged on only one thing: the acts of mercy we have shown to the least among us. Jesus identifies with the least ones; thus we serve Jesus whenever we serve one of the least ones. The Church calls the actions that Jesus de-scribed in today’s Gospel the Corporal Works of Mercy. These works are to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to bury the dead, to shelter the homeless, to visit the sick and imprisoned, and to give alms to the poor. In these actions we show God’s compassion and mercy to those in need. As you gather as a family, recall the list of the Corporal Works of Mercy. Talk about some concrete examples of how your family might do these actions in your community and then discuss why it is important that we do these things. Read Matthew 25:31-46. Ask: Why does Jesus say we ought to do these works of mercy? (Because whenever we show mercy to another person, we show mercy to Jesus himself.) Choose one Corporal Work of Mercy that your family will act upon this week. Pray together that your family will see and serve Jesus in the least ones among us. Pray the Lord’s Prayer or an Act of Love.

She has worked in the Diocese for many years with the Deacon Preparation Program and the ILM Institute. She has also lead many retreats in parishes throughout the Diocese.

NUESTRO SEÑOR JESUCRISTO REY DEL UNIVERSO REFLEXION NOVIEMBRE 26 DEL 2017

Cristo Pastor, Cristo Juez: La imagen del pastor nos parece acogedora y amorosa; la imagen del juez nos parece severa y casi amenazante. Uno de los propósitos de la celebración de hoy es que sepamos complementar una imagen con la otra: nuestro benigno pastor será también nuestro juez; nuestro juez insobornable es hoy nuestro pastor. Así nos lo en-seña Ezequiel.

El Dios que busca a las ovejas es el mismo que juzga a las ovejas. ¿Qué quiere decir esto? Quiere decir que el amor incondicional e inagotable nos conduce a un terreno en el que no vale disculpa alguna. Precisamente porque Dios nos ha amado sin medida nos ha quitado toda posibilidad de engañarnos. No hay excusas para el que se sabe amado, radi-calmente amado, gratuitamente amado, infinitamente amado. El amor total elimina al engaño. El amor total hace brotar la verdad total.

La consumación de la historia: San Pablo nos ofrece otra perspectiva sobre el misterio magnífico que hoy celebramos. El reinado de Cristo parecerá en plenitud sólo al final. Nuestra historia, pues, tiene una dirección. No es el monótono repetirse que parecía amenazarnos desde los estribillos del Eclesiastés: "Nada nuevo bajo el sol" (Qo 1,9). Cristo le da la dirección, el sentido a la historia. Él es el sentido de la historia y sin él la historia humana, individual o colectiva, es sólo una sucesión de deseos que no satisfacen. Pablo nos presenta al universo sometido a Cristo. La consumación consiste en eso: el sometimiento a Jesucristo. Enton-ces es posible apresurar la consumación. No es una fecha exterior al mundo, que caiga sobre el mundo porque "estaba escrita" en algún lugar. Es a la vez algo inconcebible y algo concebido; algo que viene de la más absoluta trascenden-cia, y que sin embargo se despliega desde las entrañas de nuestra historia. Apresuramos la consumación cuando apresu-ramos el reinado de Jesucristo.

Los criterios de juicio: La historia humana, llegada a su consumación, tendrá que comparecer ante Cristo. La palabra del Señor decreta el destino eterno, pero no lo crea. El juicio sucede en la historia, aunque se decreta sólo a su término. Sucede en la historia porque ya sabemos de qué y por qué somos juzgados. El bien negado es un mal futuro. Todos los bienes que negamos son los males que nos acusan.

Las palabras de Cristo en ese día serán: "¡Vengan!" o "¡Apártense!". Mas, si lo pensamos bien, esas palabras no son otra cosa que un espejo de las obras de unos y otros. Los que se acercaron a Cristo escucharán que Cristo les dice que se acerquen; los que se apartaron de Cristo escucharán que Cristo les dice que se aparten. El gran juicio es sólo un es-pejo ampliado de la vida que llevamos.

Cristo está oculto en los pobres. O dicho de otro modo: la pobreza es el ámbito en que Cristo se revela. No es nuevo esto para quien haya leído el Evangelio. En la pobreza se revela la gracia porque pobreza significa: límite de nuestras fuerzas y, por tanto, límite de nuestras pretensiones. La pobreza no es una decoración o un capricho de Cristo; es la condición única en que podemos descubrir un amor que existe donde nosotros no podemos dominarlo. Un amor que es nuestro dueño.
