Pastor’s Note There are 27 days left to Christmas! Nine months
ago, this Christmas was made special. Not when we shut down, but
when we cele-brated the Feast of the Annunciation on March 25. The
hidden Jesus, Jesus in the womb has been much like the last 38
weeks of pandemic shutdown. Where did Jesus go over the last nine
months? Nowhere. He is ready to be born in each of us by faith and
by our giving birth to our faith in action. I would encourage all
of us as we light our Advent wreaths, put up our lights, decorate
our trees that we pray the single prayer every day: “Marantha”. The
old prayer of invitation rings true today. “Come, Lord Jesus.”
Let’s plan to prepare together as a parish communi-ty through the
Advent Sunday Masses and the Sunday night “Vianney Show” (details
on our parish website). Read on for schedules and details for all
the happenings in the parish. We have great hope because the Lord
has been born in the faithful leaders of our parish as Mr. Sal
Heredia and his daughter Esmeralda witnessed this past Sunday. Let
the Lord not be hidden any more!

Mensaje del Párroco ¡Quedan 27 días para Navidad! Hace nueve
meses esta Navidad se hizo especial. No por el cierre debi-do a la
pandemia sino cuando celebramos la Fiesta de la Anunciación el 25
de marzo. El Jesús oculto, el Jesús en el útero, ha sido muy
parecido a las últimas 38 semanas de cierre pandémico. ¿A dónde fue
Jesús durante los últimos nueve meses? A ninguna parte. Él está
listo para nacer en cada uno de noso-tros por medio de la fe y para
dar a luz a nuestra fe en acción. Me gustaría animar a todos a que
mien-tras que encendemos nuestras coronas de Adviento, ponemos las
luces navideñas y decoramos nuestros árboles, recemos esta oración
única todos los días: "Marantha". La antigua oración de invitación
hoy suena verdadera. "Ven, Señor Jesús". Hagamos pla-nes para
prepararnos juntos como comunidad parro-quial a través de las misas
del domingo de Adviento y el “Show de Vianney” del domingo por la

“So always be ready. You don’t know the day your Lord will
come.” Matthew 24:42
… Can anyone tell me the Girl Scout motto? … The Girl Scout
motto is, "Be Prepared." … Now, who can tell me what the Boy Scout
motto is? … The Boy Scout motto is "Be Prepared." The Girl Scout
and Boy Scout motto means that a good scout must al-ways "Be
prepared." That is also the subject for our Bible lesson today.
Today is a very special day. Today is the first Sunday of Advent
and we have started the countdown to Christmas. There are many
things that peo-ple do to get ready for Christmas, aren't there?
Let's see, what are some of the things that we do to prepare for
Christmas? We have to put up our Christmas tree, lights, and
decorations. We have to get our Christmas cards addressed and
mailed. We have a lot of shopping to do to buy gifts for our family
and friends. There is a lot of cooking that must be done --
Christmas cookies and candy and, of course, we must buy all of the
food for Christmas dinner. Can you think of any things that I have
forgotten While we are getting ready for Christmas, there is
something else that we must be prepared for as well. Jesus promised
that he would come, again, and the Bible tells us that we must be
watching and be prepared for his return. We all know when Christmas
is coming, but when will Jesus come again? The Bible says that no
one knows the hour of his return. Not even the angels who announced
his birth know when he will come again. If we don't know when he is
coming, how can we be prepared? If we want to be prepared for
Jesus' coming, we must always be busy doing the things that he told
us to do. We must be loving God and loving one anoth-er. What are
some things we can do? It is fun and exciting to prepare for
Christmas, but we must also be pre-pared for that day when Jesus
comes again. Dear Father, we love this season of the year. We love
the preparation for the celebration of the birth of our Savior,
Jesus Christ. Help us also re-member that he is coming again and
that you have told us to be prepared. In Jesus' name, amen.

¡ESTÉN ATENTOS! ¡ESTÉN ALERTA! Cuando Jesús no habla con frases
elo-cuentes, lo hace con frases en imperativo que raspan, así como
las de la lectura del Evangelio de hoy, uno puede entender la
urgencia. No hay lugar para el lenguaje florido. “¡Estén atentos!
¡Estén alerta!” ¡Uno tiene la sensación de que deben escri-birse en
negritas o en mayúsculas! Él cuenta la parábola del dueño de la
casa dejando a sus trabajadores en casa, sin decirles cuando va a
regresar. Sin teléfonos, textos e itinera-rio de viaje podría haber
significado que el dueño de la casa regresaría en algún mo-mento
del día, o en algún momento del pró-ximo mes o año. Así que Jesús
no nos dice “tienes que comportarte un poco”, sino más bien “debes
vivir tu vida y trabajar como si el dueño de la casa estuviera

WATCH! This author was very aware of the language of
“master/servant” in the Gospel today and is reading it and praying
it in light of discussions on racism in recent months. Perhaps this
goes with the last imperative at the end of the parable to “Watch!”
This year has taught us to be alert in our actions such as social
distancing, masks, and sanitizing, as well as in our language and
even our thoughts. Now how do we apply that to our spir-ituality,
to our faith? For many, due to restrictions on numbers in church,
singing, and choirs, this has meant learning to pray in a whole
different way. The celebra-tion of liturgy is the same as ever,
with its focus always on the Word and the Eucharist, but for those
in the pew, or still watching on livestream, the sense of ac-tive
participation has taken on a very different meaning from how most
of us have experienced liturgy in our lifetime. It feels like we
have become spectators rather than participants. Perhaps this
challenge can move us from complacency in our faith, to rediscover
and relate to God in new ways, and call us to be even stronger in
our personal faith. We must remain diligent. We must “watch.” We

¡PERMANECE ALERTA! Este autor era muy consciente del lenguaje de
“dueño/esclavo” en el Evangelio de hoy y lo está leyendo y rezando
a
la luz de los debates del racismo de los últimos meses. Tal vez
esto va con la última frase imperativa al final de la pará-bola
“permanezcan alerta”. Este año nos ha enseñado a es-tar alerta en
nuestras acciones como el mantener una dis-tancia física, el uso
del cubre bocas y el desinfectar superfi-cies, así como en nuestro
lenguaje e incluso en nuestros pensamientos. Ahora, ¿cómo empleamos
eso a nuestra es-piritualidad, a nuestra fe? Para muchas personas,
debido a las restricciones al número de personas permitido en la
igle-
sia y en los coros, esto ha significado aprender a rezar de una
manera totalmente diferente. La celebración de la liturgia es la
misma de siempre, con su enfoque en la Palabra y en la Euca-ristía,
