Weekly Online Safety News (From Mr Bottle, ICT Leader)

We wanted to draw your attention to a great new app

for internet safety introduced by Google recently.

Family Link allows adults to track what children are up to on their phones at any time, allowing parents to see whatever is on their child’s screen wherever they are. For primary age children this could be a very useful tool for parents!

Parents simply need to set up a Google account on the phone they wish to safeguard and download the Family App on their own. They will pay a one-off 1p fee on a credit card to

verify their identity, and will then be given access to weekly or monthly usage reports which show what apps their child is using along with child location tracking, which is optional.

Google said the app was aimed at under 13s but that children up to the age of 18 could also use it if they were happy with being tracked.

A parent must approve any apps that the child tries to download and will be shown whether they include adverts, the suggested age range and the rating it has been given. Whilst it is important for children to have freedom and safety growing up—you can never be too safe

when it comes to proper internet usage and e-safety.

You may want to download it on the app store to give it a go! We would love to hear your feedback.

WILL YOU CHOOSE A HARROW SECONDARY SCHOOL WHEN YOUR CHILD LEAVES YEAR 6? We want our brilliant children at Welldon Park Pri-

mary to go on to do even better at a Harrow Secondary school. However we re-alise there is more and more choice and as parents/carers you have the right to ensure you make the best choice for your child. We are collecting views from all Harrow Pri-mary School parents, especially those in Year 5 and 6, to help us work closely with secondary schools in Harrow, so they are always your first choice. Please complete this anonymous survey: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/HarrowSchools

It will close at 12pm on MONDAY 12TH MARCH. Thanks for your support in advance.

ATTENDANCE We expect all children to have at least 97%+ attendance, ideally 100%. Please do not request time off in term time for holi-days as it could lead to a £120 fine.

There are 13 weeks of holiday a year so please avoid term time holiday!

Current Attendance Statistics:

Re-

member in the last week of the half term we will be giving out our special 100% Club reward stickers! Can you be one of the first children to get one?

Sporting Success Continues!

Last week we brought you the news of the great success of our netball team coing second place for the borough—a great achievement! This week we can confirm that the amazing sports teaching and coaching

from Mr Walsh and the wider staff during PE has been recognised in our achievement of the Silver Award from the Youth Sports Trust. The Youth Sport Trust is a national charity that is building a brighter future for young people through PE and sport. Through 20 years of experience they have developed a unique way of maximising the power of sport to grow young people, schools and communi-

ties through the development of qualities including creativity, aspiration, resilience and empathy. The Quality Mark took has been aligned to Ofsted guidance supporting the PE and Sport Premium and comprises a series of straight forward benchmarking statements, where schools can select their level of provision in areas including:

Overall vision of PE, physical activity and school sport

Quality of PE

Quality of school sport

Quality of physical activity

Use of PE, physical activity and sport as a catalyst for wider learning

Look out for the Quality Mark on all letters coming from school!

We will update our attendance statistics next week as SNOW DAYS have meant it is not a fair week to judge attendance! Thank you.

World Book Day Invite Spring Fair Advert

As always, if you have any concerns, meet your child’s class teacher first – speak to the office and they will ar-range an appointment for you. If there is something more urgent or private, a senior member of staff will always be made available to see you. Thank you for your con-

tinued support.

New Build Progress —Wyvenhoe Site We are pleased to announce that building work on the new school sports hall and classrooms is going well. See below for some pictures of the latest developments. These will be discussed with the children during assembly time over the coming days. Ask them for up to the minute info on what is happening! The pictures show the demo-lition of the old sports hall which we are sad to say goodbye to but we are extremely excited about regaining this so it forms our brand new playground! It’s going to be gigantic. School Council will be helping to shape plans for our new space in the next few weeks.

PARKING RESTRICTIONS A reminder that there is no parking outside the Kingsley site until the building work ceases. We know this does cause some frustration and parking is limited but it will be worth the wait when our brilliant new sports hall and classrooms arrive. Please be mindful of children crossing the roads when parking near the school site and be safe! If a disability means you require closer access to the school please do not hesitate to discuss this with a mem- ber of leadership team , who can be found in Hi Vis jackets on the gates each morning! Thank you for your continued support.
