Street resurfacing. Ms. Mankin explained that the City of Columbus will begin resurfacing North Fourth and Summit streets this summer. The resurfacing project will include the installation of bicycle lanes on those two streets, as well as the removal of several traffic signals north of Weinland Park. High school students who require neighborhood service credit can volunteer at the neighborhood. Food trucks will be at the festival. The festivals theme is Coming Back Home.

Legal Aid. Stephanie Harris of Columbus Legal Aid Society explained that her organization provides civil legal representation, but not criminal representation, to persons who are not able to pay for an attorneys services. The civil cases include tenant-landlord matters, educational services, and credit card and other consumer issues. The legal services often help people resolve issues before going to court. She provided copies of two publications that deal with the responsibilities and rights of tenants and the requirement of landlords to maintain properties.

Pre-school openings. Bobbie Bowling, a staff member of the Schoenbaum Family Center and a Weinland Park resident, announced that the center has spots available for four-year-old children beginning in August. The center also has spots for infants and toddlers (three to 12 months of age). She would like to recruit children from Weinland Park. Martin Weston, a resident of Weinland Park, said his daughter was in the first class of the Schoenbaum Family Center and the centers program is outstanding.

Yard sale. Kimberly Golden announced that the annual Weinland Park yard sale will be Friday, July 31, and Saturday, August 1. The previous yard sales had been along North Sixth Street, but this year Ms. Golden would like neighbors throughout Weinland Park to participate in the yard sale.

Service opportunities. Sierra Austin of YWCA of Columbus announced that she will spend some time in Weinland Park to understand community service opportunities that might exist for young people in the YWCAs leadership development program. Assisting her in the program is Madison Eagle.
