Food, Fun, and Fitness in WP

The Food & Wellness Committee is back! There was

the apple-picking trip to Legend Hills Farm in Septem-

berover 75 residents attended. Then we headed to

Pigeon Roost Farms in October to enjoy the pumpkin

patch, petting zoo, and corn maze.

And dont forget: Zumbais back! Join us for these fun,

Latin-inspired dance aerobics at 10 a.m. on Saturdays

at the Godman Guild (303 E. 6th Ave.) for just $5 per

class or $45 for 10 classes. To keep up-to-date on

Here Comes the Community Potluck

Its time for turkey and stuffing and all things tasty: Godman Guildwill host the Annual Community Potluck, Nov. 13 from 58 p.m. at

Weinland Park Elementary.

Everyone from WP is invited. A complete turkey dinner will be

provided free, and free family photos will be taken.

Pre-registration is requiredand we ask each family to bring a

The City of Columbus has begun the process to

update the Neighborhood Land Use Plan for the Univer-

sity District (the larger neighborhood that Weinland Park

is part of), which will guide real estate development

approvals and improvements for the next 10 to 20

years.

There have been several planning processes over the

years in Weinland Park, but this isnt just a process

where we all vision an imaginary project together

these are real-life rules that will guide projects in our

neighborhood for a long time.

The first draft of the plan projects continued popula-

tion growth of the area and thus supports increasing

density of residents living in many parts of the University

District, especially along Summit and N. 4th Streets.

One of the issues to be addressed is the conversion of

single-family homes and duplexes into much higher-

density housing. This is just one of the important exam-

ples of why it is important for us to be at the table as

this plan is made.

The WPCCA newsletter will continue to update you

about this important process. The first public meeting

has passed, so well start reminding you about the nextone as soon as the date has been decided. Until then,

The Weinland Park Community Civic Association

takes a break from its monthly public meeting in

November so we can put together a celebration for

December. This year the Association of College and

University Housing Officers will host our annualpotluck at their new headquarters: the former Orton

Memorial Laboratory at 1445 Summit St.

(northwest corner of Summit & 8th) on Dec. 4 at

6:30 p.m. to 8:00p.m.

Come see for yourself what $1 million of restoration

has done for this wonderful old building! Dishes to

share are welcome but not expected.

Four years of hard work by the Safety &Mobility committee is paying off. Curb extensionsare being installed for safer crossing at Indianolaand 9thavenues, and new, wide sidewalkshavegone in along 6th Avenue near Godman Guild.Look for many more street improvements in thecoming year.

Major upgrades to Columbia Gas pipelineshave started in areas surrounding 4th Street.This may include moving your gas meter to an

outside location. (All the bright green stakes aremarking sewer lines so they wont be damaged

by the gas line work.) Watch your mail for aschedule of work that may specifically affect you.

We were happy to hear that a few of ourneighbors were recruited to install fences andmaintain landscaping at new properties built byWagenbrenner.
