No. 2001-ag-899, Department of Agronomy and Saeed Ahmad Qaisrani S/o Nazir Ahmad Qaisrani, Reged. No. 99-ag-1411, Department of Agronomy, have passed the final examination for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (2013). The Vice Chancellor is pleased to sanction their admission to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. The titles of their PhD research were “Characterization of shisham (Dalbergia sissoo) against dieback disease in various ecological zones of Punjab”, “Evaluation of sugar cane (Saccharum officinarum) bio-molecules as biological response modifiers and their immunotherapeutic effects against coccidiosis in chicken”, “Occurrence, toxicity and prevention of Acrylamide in model systems and baked products”, “Fresh-cut technology for guava fruit”, ”Impact of polyamines and nitrogen application on the water economy of hybrid maize (Zea mays L.)”, “Determination of agro-management practices for wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) sown in rice-wheat cropping system”. Now the number of UAF PhD club has been raised up to 1080.

SITUATION VACANT 1. Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate on contract basis at a consolidated

pay of Rs. 10,000/- per month in the research project “Socio cultural factors affecting women’s participation in Livestock Management in Punjab – Pakistan” run by the Department of Rural Sociology Faculty of Social Sciences, UAF. Applications should reach in the office of Dr. Ashfaq Ahmad Maan PI/Chairman Department of Rural Sociology, within 10 days after the publication of this notice. Persons having M.Sc. Rural Sociology/Sociology & Population Science are eligible.

2. Applications are invited from the Pakistani Nationals who are not married to a foreign national on plain paper along with CV’s for: (1) Three posts of lecturer Poultry Science, (2) One post of lecturer Biochemistry, (3) One post of lecturer Agricultural Extension with M.Sc. (Hons) in the respective discipline with minimum CGPA 3.00 with no third division in academic career. The appointment will be made purely on contract basis. Applications on plain paper are invited for the post of Driver under the project entitled as “Heat stress Alleviation in Summer vegetables – Enhancing the use of genetic diversity in central Punjab, Pakistan” Complete application along with copy of driving license should reach in the office of PI of the project Prof. Dr. M. 4. Applications are invited from Pakistani nationals who are not married to a foreign national, on the prescribed form obtainable free of cost on any working days during office hours from the office of the Registrar (Personnel Section) for one post of Research Associate in the HEC funded project titled “Economic feasibility of Veal production from the Sahiwal and X-bred cows and Nili Ravi buffaloes calves”. The candidate should be either an M.Sc. (Hons) degree holder in Animal Nutrition or enrolled for PhD degree. He/She should have at least two 1st divisions and no 3rd division in his/her academic career. The selected candidate will be paid @ Rs. 20,000/- per month according to the HEC policy. Only one copy of application is required with attested copies of the certificates. Incomplete applications or those received after the due date will not be entertained. PhD THESIS/SYNOPSIS DEFENCE 1. Thesis defense of Miss Hira Munir, Regd. No. 2006-ag-394 student of PhD Biochemistry,

Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry entitled “Modification and Characterization of Wild and Commercial Gums for their Pharmaceutical Potential” will be held on 26-10-2013 at 09:00 am in Video Conference Room. All interested are invited to attend.

2. Mr. Iqbal Hussain, Regd. No. 2002-ag-1429, a PhD student of the Department of Agronomy will defend his PhD thesis on 30-10-2013 at 02:00 pm in the Video Conference Room, Faculty of Agriculture, UAF. The title of his thesis is “Evaluating the vigor enhancement potential of seed priming on the following wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) crop”. All interested persons are invited to participate.

3. Mr. Muhammad Shahbaz Qamar Regd. No. 95-ag-917, a PhD Student of Institute of Animal Nutrition and Feed Technology appeared for his PhD thesis defense on 08-10-2013. He presented his research work. His findings were thoroughly discussed by the audience. The supervisory committee of the student critically evaluated his presentation and interpretation of results. The committee found it acceptable and allowed the final submission of his thesis.

4. The synopsis defense of Miss, Nadia Akram, Regd. No. 2006-ag-1263, PhD student at National Institute of Food Science and Technology, will be held on 28-10-2013 at 03:00 pm in the Conference Room, National Institute of Food Science and Technology, UAF. The title of her synopsis is “Physicochemical and functional properties of cereal modified starches”. All interested participants are cordially invited.

5. Thesis defense of Mr. Muhammad Zafarullah Saleemi, Regd. No. 97-ag-2073 student of PhD Biochemistry, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry entitled “Evaluation of Physiological Biomarkers in Coronary Artery Disease” will be held on 26-10-2013 at 11:00 am in video conference room. All interested are invited to attend.

QUOTATIONS 1. Bid No. 153/13. Sealed bids are invited from the registered firms of the UAF for supply of 100

Kg. Barseem Seed for the Directorate of Farms, UAF. The details and other pre-requisites can be had from the Directorate of Procurement & Inventory Control (DPIC) during closing hours. The bids should reach in the Directorate within 5 days from the date of publication. The bid money @ 2% of the quoted value must accompany the bid in favour of Stores Officer, UAF.

AUCTION NOTICE 1. The following vehicles will be disposed off on Saturday 26-10-2013 at 10:00 am at Motor Pool,

UAF, through an open auction as available on site. The brief descriptions of the vehicles are:- (i) FDR 169 Carry Bolan Model 1994 (ii) FDA 9914 Carry Bolan Model 2003 (iii) FS 2464 Carry Bolan Model 2002 (iv) FDP 26 Car Crolla (Toyota) Regd. 1992 (v) FDQ 8140 Pajero (Mitsubishi) Regd. No. 1993 (vi) FSO 1179 D/Cabin (China) Model 2006 (vii) Bus No. 02 Bedford Model 1979. Vehicles can be seen at Motor Pool, UAF from 08.00 am to 03.00 pm on working days. The bidder will have to deposit Rs. 1000/- (Non-refundable) as bid fee into A/C No. 270-5/NBP.

In addition the bidder will deposit Rs. 10,000/- in cash (Refundable) to the committee for each vehicle as bid money before the start of the auction. The successful bidder will deposit 1/3 of the bid at the spot. If the successful bidder fails to deposit 1/3 of the bid as successful bidder, the bid money Rs. 10,000/- will be forfeited in favour of the University. After approval of the competent authority, the bidder will have the right to take away the vehicle on payment of remaining amount within seven days from the date of issuance of the letter of the approval, failing which the amount already deposited be forfeited in favour of UAF. Leviable taxes will be charged extra on the value of final bid as per Govt. Rules for deposit into Government’s Treasury. The competent authority reserves the right to accept/reject any or all bid (s) without assigning any reason. In case of any dispute between the bidder and UAF, the decision of the Vice Chancellor as Arbitrator shall be final; and not be challenged in any Court of Law.

2. The sale of about 406 different unserviceable items will be made by an open auction on 30-10-2013 at 10:00 am are interested, may come and bid. One third of the total price will be recovered at the spot and the remaining amount will be received after the approval of the competent authority. The price will be realized at the spot. Under Section 236A of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, an advance Income Tax @ 10% of the sale price of the property/goods being auctioned will be collected from the successful bidder. The list of articles can be seen in the office of Prof. Dr. Ihsan Khaliq, Convener of the Committee. The competent authority reserves the rights to accept or reject the highest bid without assigning any reason.

3. Several un-serviceable items will be auctioned on 11-11-2013 at 10:00 am in the Department of Continuing Education, UAF. The items can be seen in the office of the Department of Continuing Education, UAF during office hours. One third of auction price will be realized at the spot and the remaining amount and 10% Advance tax after the approval of Competent Authority. All interested bidder are welcome to participate in this bid.
