No. 2000-ag-1340, Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences have passed the final examination for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (2013). The Vice Chancellor is pleased to sanction their admission to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. The titles of their PhD research were “Biodegradation of azo dyes by bacterial cells and azoreductase”, “Phytic acid in relation to minerals availability at different extraction rates of wheat flour”, “Regulation of growth and some key physiological and biochemical attributes in salt stressed plants of rice (Oryzasativa L.) by exogenous application of nitric oxide”, “Integrated nitrogen management by using variable rates, time and methods of application for improving maize production”, “Impact of cadmium and nickel on morpho-anatomy and physiology of two native grasses [Cynodondactylon (L.) Pers. and Cenchrusciliaris L.]”, “Effect of mulching and farm manure on water use efficiency, soil properties and crop growth while using brackish water for irrigation”. Now the number of UAF PhD club has been raised to 1093.

GOWNS FOR STUDENTS FOR 20thCONVOCATION TO BE HELD ON 21 DECEMBER, 2013 It is intimated that an arrangement has been made with M/S S. Corny, Lahore for provision of gowns as per rates detailed below. The said firms will set a stall at Lecture Room No. 2 in Botany Department from 14th to 22nd December at 08:00 am to 04:00 pm.

QARZ-E-HASNA FOR DESERVING & MERITORIOUS STUDENTS (IHSAN TRUST) All the applications under captioned program are informed that they must submit the revised application form in Directorate of Financial Assistance & University Advancement till 31st December, 2013. A. H. ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE ACADEMIC SESSION 2013-14 Applications are invited from the students of 5th& 7th Semester of Animal Sciences admitted during winter semester 2013-14 for the award of two subject scholarships for one year. The application forms are available at Directorate of Financial Assistance & University Advancement Office. Ensure submission of applications along with necessary documents in the office of DFA&UA by 31st December, 2013 positively.

SEMESTER SCHEDULE Considering the recommendations of the Dean’s Committee made at its meeting held on 07-12-2013, the Vice Chancellor as authorized by the Academic Council at its meeting held on 24-06-2013, has approved the following schedule for the academic session, 2013-14, to be observed at the UAF and its Sub Compuses:- Winter semester, 2013-2014:- (i) Commenced from 16-09-2013 (ii) Termination of semester after completion of 19 weeks including Examination etc. 27-01-2014. Inter Semester Break:- 28-02-2014 to 03-02-2014. Spring Semester, 2013-2014:- (i) Enrollment (six bank working days) 04-02-2014 to 12-02-2014 (ii) Commencement of calsses from 13-02-2014. The Vice Chancellor has further approved athat Dean/Director General/ Directors/Principals and Chairmen of Teaching Departments will ensure that atleast 50% extra classes of fresh entrants/first semester studetns have taken by the concerned teachers. Such studetns will not observe inter semester break. Their schedule of final examination for Winter, 2013-2014 be prepared accordingly.

PLACEMENT OF PhD THESIS FOR PEER REVIEW 1. PhD thesis of Mr. Muhammad Luqman, Regd. No. 97-ag-1165, entitled “Rural development vision and practices

of culturally rooted social movement organizations in North West Pakistan: implications for Agri.Extension” was placed in the office of the Director, Institute of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development for peer review. No such suggestions or criticism was received by any of the faculty members and students.

2. The PhD thesis of Mr. Muhammad Saeed, Regd # 1983-ag-681, PhD student, Institute of Horticultural Sceiences, UAF will be placed in Director’s Office from 21-12-2013 to 21-12-2013. The title of his thesis is “Landscape conservation and restoration of historic gardens of Pakistan: case study of three mughal gardens”. All academic staff and stuents are welcomed to read/consult and give suggestions so that some could be incorporatio in the thesis.

PhD THESIS/SYNOPSIS DEFENSE 3. Mr. MubeenSarwar, Regd. No. 2006-ag-1959, a PhD student of the Institute of Horticultural Sciences will defend

his PhD synopsis at University level on 31-12-2013 at 02:00 pm in the Landscape Studio, UAF. The title of his synopsis is “Evaluation of Salt tolerance potential and its enhancement in Cucumber (Cucumissativus L.).

4. Miss HumeraRazzaq, Regd. No. 2006-ag-1734, PhD student of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics will defend her PhD synopsis in the Postgraduate Laboratory of this Department on 28-12-2013 at 12:10 pm as required under the rules. The title of her synopsis is “Genetics of yield and drought stress tolerance related traits in sunflower”. All the reachers and students concerned are requested to attend and contribute towards the improvement of the synopsis.

5. Mr. Rashid Hussain, Regd. No. 2006-ag-1947 a PhD student of the Institute of Horticultural Sciences will defend his PhD synopsis at University level on 31-12-2013 at 02:30 pm in the Landscape Studio, UAF. The title of his synopsis is “Evaluation of heat tolerance potential and its enhancement in Okra (Abelmoschusesculentus L. Moench.).

6. Mr. Allah Ditta, Regd. No. 2003-ag-1793, PhD student of the Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences has successfully defended his thesis in a seminar at the University level on 14-12-2013. The title of his thesis is “Impact of rock phosphate enriched compost (RP-EC) and phosphate solubilizing microorganisms (PSMs) on nodulation, growth and yield of chickpea and lentil”.

7. Mr. Ahmed Bilal, Reg. No. 2006-ag-1702, a PhD student, Department of Agronomy, has successful defended his PhD synopsis on 07-12-2013 at 09:30 am in the Department of Agronomy, UAF. The title of his synopsis is “Quantification of Spatial and Temporal Bt. Cotton Yield Variability under Changing Climate Through Modeling Techniques”.

8. Mr. MubasharNadeem, Regd. No. 2006-ag-1376, a PhD student, Department of Agronomy, has successfully defended his PhD synopsis on 23-11-2013 at 09:00 am in the Department of Agronomy, UAF. The title of his synopsis is “Physio-agronomic characteristics of autumn planted sugarcane under different planting patterns”.

9. Ahmad Nawaz, Regd. No. 2006-ag-1709, a PhD student, Department of Agronomy, has successfully defended his PhD Synopsis on 14-12-2013. The title of his synopsis is “Weed Dynamics, Soil Health and System Productivity in Conventional and Conservation Rice-Wheat Cropping Systems”.

QUOTATIONS/BIDS

1. Bid # 170/13: Sealed bids are invited from the registered firms of the UAF for printing/publishing of Pakistan Journal of Agricultural Sciences Vol. 50, No. 3, 2013 to the Editor Pakistan Journal of Agri. Sciences, UAF. The detailed and other pre-requisites can be had from the Directorate of Procurement & Inventory Control (DPIC) during closing hours. The bids should reach in the Directorate within 5 days from the date of the publication of the Campus News. The bid money @ 2% of the quoted value must accompany the bid in favour of Director (P&IC), UAF.

2. About 27200 Kgs. Paddy (KS-282) and 2600 Kgs. Oat Seed (Jaw’wa) will be publically auctioned on December 23, 2013 at 10:00 am at University Research Farm Rakh Bullwhwal, Depalpur, Okara as available on site. Terms & Conditions:- (i) The farm crops/produce mentioned above can be seen at site. (ii) The bidder will have to deposit Rs. 300/- (Non-refundable) as bid fee into A/c No. 270-5/NBP. (iii) The bidder will have to deposit Rs. 5000/- in cash (refundable) as bid money before the start of auction. (iv) The successful bidder will deposit 1/3 of the bid at the spot. If the successful bidder fails to deposit 1/3 of the bid as successful bidder, the bid money Rs. 5000/- will be forfeited in favour of the University. (v) After approval of the competent authority, the bidder will have the right ot take away the auctioned farm produces/crops on payment of remaining amount within seven days from the date of issuance of the letter of the approval, failing which the amount already deposited be forfeited in favour of UAF. (vi) Taxes (10%) will be charged extra on the value of final bid as per Govt. Rules for deposit into Government’s Treasury. (vii) The bidder will have to produce original CNIC before the Committee. (viii) The University reserves the right to accept/reject any or all bid (s) without assigning any reason. (ix) In case of any dispute between the bidder and UAF, the decision of the Vice Chancellor as arbitrator shall be final; and not be challenged in any Court of Law.

3. Bid # 171/13: Sealed bids are invited from the registered firms of the UAF for supply of SPME Fibre for the National Institute of Food Science & Technology, UAF. The detailed and other pre-requisites can be had from the Directorate of Procurement & Inventory Control (DPIC) during closing hours. AUCTION NOTICE 1. An open auction will be concucted dated 21-12-2013 at 10:30 am at the experimental research station of Water

Management Research Centre at PARS- UAF for auction of about one acre Maize Grain Crop standing in the field. Maize Grain Crop can be seen at the site. Under section 236A of Income Tax Ordinance 2001, advance income tax @ 10% of the sale price will be collected form the succesful bidder. One third of the total price will be recovered on the spot, and the remaining amount will be paid after the approval of competent authority. The competent authority reserves the right to accept or reject bid without assigning any reason.
