SITUATION VACANT 1. Applications are invited from Pakistani nationals who are not married to a foreign national, to hire one

Research Fellow at a consolidated pay of Rs. 25,000/- pm to work in the project “Assessing Agricultural Management Practices and Externalities of Bt Cotton Plantation in Pakistani Punjab” funded by the CERA. The applicant must possess B.Sc. (Hons.) Agricultural Entomology/M.Sc. (Hons.) Agricultural Entomology. 2. Application are invited for the recruitment of one post of Field Assistant in the HEC funded project titled “Enhanced Production of Vegetables with Maximum Retention of Valuable Nutrients in Response to Plant Growth Regulators” at a consolidated pay of Rs. 5,000/- per month. Applicant should be literate (Middle Pass). Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate at a consolidated pay of Rs. 20,000/- pm in HEC funded research project entitled “Screening and characterization of anticancer compounds from some local medicinal plants” being run by Dr. Raja Adil Sarfraz, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. The candidates who are M.Sc. (Analytical Chemistry) preferable enrolled in M.Phil (Analytical Chemistry) are eligible to apply. The selected candidate will work at BZU, Multan. The candidates bearing following criteria will be considered eligible: - “B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture with major Horticulture Student. Preference will be given having some experience of Mango Production Technology”. INVITATION FOR NOMINATION(S) FOR COMSTECH THEMATIC TRAINING WORKSHOP COMSTECH is a Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of 57 member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Its mission is to strengthen the capacity of OIC member states in science and technology through mutual cooperation, collaboration, and networking. COMSTECH is, in this regards, offering a three-day international training course on “Applied Vacuum Technology” from August 26-28, 2014. The workshop will be conducted by national and international experts from reputed institutions. You are requested to nominate suitable candidate(s) for the training course. PLACEMENT OF PhD THESIS FOR PEER REVIEW Mr. Muhammad Mazhar Hussain, Regd. No. 2004-ag-1397, PhD student of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics has placed his PhD thesis entitled “Genetics of heavy metal tolerance in Solanum lycopersicum L.” for Peer Review in the Library, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics on 21-05-2014 for one week. The faculty and the students are invited to persue the thesis for any correction and improvement.

PhD THESIS/SYNOPSIS DEFENSE 1. Mr. Muhammad Majid, Regd. No. 2006-ag-1539, a PhD student of CABB will defend his PhD synopsis at

University level on 31-05-2014 at 10:00 am in the lecture room of CABB. The title of his synopsis is “Targeted Inactivation of Plastid Ribosomal Proteins”.

2. Mr. Ghulam Abbas, Regd. No. 88-ag-1224, PhD student of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics will defend his PhD thesis in the Video Conference Room Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences on 02-06-2014 at 11:00 am. All concerned are requested to make it convenient to attend and contribute for improving the thesis. The title of his thesis is “Breeding strategies to improve yield and quality traits of Vigna radiate x Vigna mungo recombinants”.

3. Ms. Shamaila Noureen, Regd. No. 2012-ag-632, PhD student of the Institute of Soil & Environmental Sciences will defend her synopsis in a seminar at the university level on 21-05-2014 at 02:00 pm in the library of the Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences. The title of her synopsis is “Conversion of post biogas cow dung slurry into value added organic fertilizer for improving soil health and maize yield”. All faculty members are requested to attend the presentation.

4. Mr. Abdul Manan, Regd. No. 2002-ag-1472 a PhD student of the Institute of Horticultural Sciences will defend his PhD thesis at University level on 30-05-2014 at 11:00 am in the Video Conference Room, Faculty of Agriculture, UAF. The title of his thesis is “Evaluation of salinity induced injurious effects in tomato and their remediation through exogenous application of Methyl Jasmonate”.

5. Mr. Saeed Ahmad, Regd. No. 2005-ag-1495, PhD student of the Institute of Soil and environmental Sciences will defend his synopsis in a seminar at the University level on 27-05-2014 at 02:00 pm in the Library of the Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences. The title of his synopsis is “Improving growth, yield and nitrogen use efficiency in wheat through integrated approach of zinc coated urea”. 6. Mr.Waqas Ashraf, Regd. 8. Mr. Sanaullah Yasin, Regd. The title of his thesis is “Potential impact of Bt and non Bt-cotton on rhizosphere microbial community, enzymatic activity and cottonseed oil quality”. No. 2005-ag-1472 a PhD student of the Institute of Horticultural Sciences will defend her PhD thesis at University level on 31-05-2014 at 12:00 noon in the Video Conference Room, Faculty of Agriculture, UAF. The title of her thesis is “Studies on metaxenial effect and use of molecular approaches for detection of hybrids, genetic diversity and sex in date palm (Pheonix dactylifera L.)”.

10. Mr. Muhammad Yahya Khan, Regd. No. 2005-ag-1311, PhD student of the Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences has successfully re-defended his synopsis in a seminar at the University level on 14-05-2014 at 12:15 pm in the Library of the Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences. The title of his synopsis is “Comparative efficacy of single-, co- and multi-strain bacterial inoculation for improving growth and yield of wheat under salinity stress”.

11. Mr. Shahid Iqbal, Regd. No. 2004-ag-1366, a PhD student, Department of Agronomy, has successfully defended his PhD thesis on 17-05-2014 at 11:00 am in the video conference room, Faculty of Agriculture, UAF. The title of his thesis is “Evaluating different nitrogen sources for sustainable production of autumn maize (Zea mays L.)”.

12. Ms Sumaira Kousar, Regd. No. 2004-ag-363, PhD Biochemistry student of the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry has successfully re-defended her synopsis entitled “Bioactive potential of fungus induced Silybum marianum seedlings and isolation of Antimicrobial genes” as required under the rules on 15-05-2014.

13. Mr. Arif Javed, Regd. No. 2007-ag-2215, PhD student of the Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences has successfully defended his synopsis in a seminar at the University level on 15-05-2014. The title of his synopsis is “Impact of irrigation and plant residues on soil quality and N2O emission in maize-wheat cropping system”.

14. Mr. Muhammad Shakar, Regd. No. 2003-ag-1619, PhD student of the Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences has successfully defended his thesis in a seminar at the University level on 17-05-2014. The title of his thesis is “Effect of coated calcium carbide on growth, yield and some morpho-physiological characteristics of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.)”.

15. Mr. Muhammad Jan, Regd. No. 2005-ag-1271, PhD student of the Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences has successfully defended his thesis in a seminar at the University level on 16-05-2014. The title of his thesis is “Efficiency of zinc utilization in rice (Oryza sativa L.) genotypes under saline conditions”.

No. 2003-ag-1970, PhD student of Institute of Horticultural Sciences has successfully defended his thesis on 19-05-2014 at 11:00 am in the Video Conference Room, Faculty of Agriculture, UAF. The title of his thesis is “Physiological and biochemical studies of wild and exotic Pleurotus species”.

17. Miss Aneela Zahoor, Regd. No. 2009-ag-514, a PhD student in the Department of Botany has successfully defended her synopsis on 20-05-2014. The title of her synopsis is “Tolerance to metal toxicity in aquatic Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms and Pistia stratiotes L.”.

18. Miss Mehwish Naseer, Regd. No. 2009-ag-618, a PhD student in the Department of Botany has successfully defended her synopsis on 20-05-2014. The title of her synopsis is “Adaptive components for salinity tolerance in Cyperus laevigatus L. populations from diverse salt-affected habitats”.

AUCTION OF PARKING -- PAKISTAN AGRI EXPO 2014 AT EXHIBITION CENTRE MAY 28 – 30, 2014 An Open Auction of parking area near exhibition center UAF will be held on 26th May, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Exhibition Centre, UAF. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: The interested bidder will deposit bid money of Rs.15,000/- for in shape of bank draft in favor of Executive Director Endowment Fund Secretariat UAF till 26thMay, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. The successful bidder will deposit the amount equal to the highest bid immediately into Endowment Fund Secretariat, UAF, failing which bid money will be forfeited in favor of EFS UAF. University reserves the rights to cancel/postpone the bid/ auction without any reason. The bidder will provide guarantor (University Officer). The persons who are interested may come and bid. One third of the total price will be recovered on the spot, and the remaining amount will be received after the approval of competent authority.
