SITUATION VACANT 1. Applications are invited from Pakistani nationals who are not married to a foreign national for one post

of a Research Associate at a consolidated pay of Rs. 20,000/- pm in the research project run by Dr Tariq Aziz, Institute of Soil & Environmental Sciences. The applicant must be a PhD student enrolled at the Institute of Soil & Environmental Sciences with no 3rd division in his/her career. Applicants having experience in the field of soil science and are not in receipt of any scholarship will be preferred. The last date for submission of applications in the office of Dr Tariq Aziz, PI, HEC funded project ISES, UAF is August 8, 2014.

2. Applications are invited from Pakistani nationals who are not married to a foreign national for one post of a Research Associate at a consolidated pay of Rs. 10,000/- pm in the HEC funded research project “Seed invigoration of quinoa by employing seed priming strategies” run by Dr Hassan Munir, PI/Assistant Professor, Department of Crop Physiology. The applicant must be a student of MSc (Hons.) Agricultural Sciences/PhD with major in Agronomy and above 3.00 CGPA. Applicants having experience in the field of Agronomy/Crop Physiology and are not in receipt of any scholarship will be preferred. The aspirants are required to submit their applications within 8 days after the publication of this notice in the office of Dr Hassan Munir, PI, HEC funded project Dept of Crop Physiology during office hours.

3. Applications are invited from Pakistani nationals who are not married to a foreign national for one post of a Research Associate at a consolidated pay of Rs. 20,000/- pm with qualification of MPhil Degree (Analytical student) having at least 3.00 or above CGPA in the HEC funded research project “Development of enzyme-assisted green technology for effective recovery of plant antioxidants” run by Dr Bushra Sultana Assistant Professor/Principal Investigator, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, Faculty of Sciences. The aspirants are required to submit their applications upto August 25, 2014 in the office of PI during office hours.

4. Applications are invited for the two posts of Research Associate on the consolidated pay Rs. 14,000/- pm in an ASL PARC funded research project entitled “Evaluation of microorganisms, clay and herbs for mycotoxin degradation and their effect upon nutrient availability in chicken” being run by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zargham Khan, Department of Pathology, UAF. The candidates are required to possess DVM degree and have enrolled MPhil in the Department of Pathology with at least two first divisions and no third division in their academic career. Application forms can be obtained from the Registrar Office (Personnel Section) or down loaded from the university website (www.uaf.edu.pk). Last date for receipt of application in the office of the Principal Investigator is 5 days from the publishing of this notice.

ANOTHER PhD SCHOLAR PRODUCED On the recommendations of the external examiners and after fulfilling all the requirements, Azhar Aslam S/o Muhammad Aslam, Regd # 90-ag-692, Institute of Microbiology, Faculty of Veterinary Science has passed the final examination for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy- Microbiology – 2014. The Vice Chancellor is pleased to sanction his admission to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. The title of his PhD research was “Evaluation of antiviral effect of epigallocatechin gallate, epigallocatechin, epicatechin gallate and green tea extract against fowl adenovirus-4”, Now the number of UAF PhD club has been raised upto 1149.

PLACEMENT OF PhD THESIS FOR PEER REVIEW 1. PhD thesis of Mr.Nazimah Maqbool, Regd. # 2008-ag-42 will be placed in the office of the Chairman,

Department of Botany from August 06, 2014 for one week prior to its final submission for foreign evaluation. The title of his thesis is “Possible Association of metabolites accumulation with salt tolerance of sugarcane”. All interested are invited to give valuable suggestions.

2. PhD thesis of Miss Rumana Sadiq, Regd # 2004-ag-198 will be placed in the office of the Chairman, Department of Botany on August 06, 2014 for one week. The title of her thesis is “Effect of natural and synthetic chelators on phytoextraction of cadmium by sunflower (Hilianthus annuus L.). All interested are invited to give valuable suggestions.

PhD THESIS/SYNOPSIS DEFENSE 1. Mr. Muhammad Bashir a PhD student Regd. No. 2003-ag-1789, has successfully defended his PhD

thesis on 25-07-2014. The title of his thesis was “Biochemical and Environmental factors responsible for Chilli Anthracnose and its management”.

2. Miss Sumara Sadef, Regd # 92-ag-1011, PhD student in the Department of Animal Breeding & Genetics will defend her PhD thesis entitled “Documentation of production systems and characterization of indigenous chicken in Pakistan” on August 15, 2014 at 11.00 am in the video conference hall, UAF. All interested are invited to attend.

3. Mr. Muhammad Ehsan Safdar, Regd # 95-ag-1212, a PhD student, Department of Agronomy has successfully defended his PhD thesis on July 15, 2014 at 11:00 am in the video conference room (Old Museum), Faculty of Agriculture, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. The title of his thesis is “Interference and management studies of Parthenium hysterophorus L. in maize”.

4. PhD thesis of Robina Aziz, Regd # 2003-ag-510, will be placed in the office of the Chairman, Department of Botany on 06-08-2014 for one week. The title of her thesis is “Influence of exogenous application of triacontanol on various morpho-physiological and biochemical attributes on sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) under saline conditions”. All interested are invited to give valuable suggestions.

5. Mr. Tasawar Abbas, Regd # 2007-ag-2296, a PhD student, Institute of Soil & Environmental Sciences has successfully defended his Synopsis in a seminar at the University level on 19-05-2014 at 2.00 pm in the Library of the Institute of Soil & Environmental Sciences. The title of his synopsis is “Effect of allelopathic bacteria on the growth and yield of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and its associated weeds”.

GUILTY STUDENTS PENALIZED The Disciplinary Advisory Committee of the University, in its recommendations made after following the prescribed procedure laid down under the UAF Students (Discipline and Conduct) Regulation, 1978, has found Mr. Ali Ahmad Sabir Regd # 2011-ag-3951, BSc (Hons.) Agri Extension major) 6th Semester, and Mr. Ahmad Nawaz Sarwar, Regd # 2011-ag-3895, BSc (Hons.) Agri (FRM & W major), 6th semester involved in taking out a student from the lecture room during conducting of class, beating him physically touring his shirt, behaving in a manner prejudicial to good order and discipline and damaging the sanctity of class. Accordingly, in view of the said recommendations of the DAC duly approved by the competent authority, the Dean Concerned in exercise of the powers conferred upon him under the said Regulations, has rusticated them from the University for one academic year (two semesters) from spring 2013-14 and directed them to deposit a fine of Rs. 5,000/- in the university account # 270-5 in NBP, UAF Branch. Their entry into the PARS and Main Campus during the penalty period is strictly banned.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE 9-11 OCTOBER 2014 Forman Christian College (A charted University, Lahore, Pakistan) is going to organize an International Conference on Emerging trends in life sciences for sustainable development from October 9 to 11, 2014. The conference will be focused on environment, agriculture and health issues. The organizers has asked the faculty and students to submit their abstracts/posters at [email protected]. The conference aims at promoting the delebrations on food security, sustainable development, biosafety & Biosecurity, and health & nutrition issues.

JMB ANNOUNCES THE BEST RESEARCH COMPETITION The first issue of the Journal of Bioresource Management (JMB) is now available on the website. The journa is being published jointly by the Bioresource Center (BRC), Islamabad, Pakistan and the Wright State University, Libraries USA. It includes research paper, review articles and short communications pertaining to wide ranging research in biological sciences. Research papers are now invited for the second issue. Deadline for online paper submission is 30h August, 2014. In addition the submitted research papers will be considered for the Best Research Competition and the winner will be awarded with 100 USD.
