The display will be at the museum throughout the summer and admission for this display is free of charge. The purpose of the display is to educate the community of the War and our role in the mission to provide aid the Republic of Vietnam in its war for freedom.

  • Minutes of May Membership Meeting

    The meeting was called to order by President Paulline at 1900 hours. Officers present, Vice-president Bruce Cheek, Secretary, John Lavelle, Treasurer Harold Hansen. The members recited the pledge of allegiance and observed a moment of silence for POW/MIA and also for those still serving in harms way. A sheet was passed for members to sign and add their email address. The minutes from the April meeting were accepted as posted in the newsletter. Larry Witt informed the group that our current membership is now at 201. Harold Hansen informed the chapter on our current financial status. We discussed members in distress which included Ed Gaudet and Dave Happ. This years scholarships were presented to Aubrey Petersen, Mike Gaudet, and John Stammeyer. Chapter Awards were presented to John Lavelle, Member of the Year and Martha Lavelle Associate Member of the Year. Ed Gaudet received the VSO Award, Ernest Ledjte Honor Guard Member of the Year, Edwin Hildebrand the Community Service Award, and Lyle Peterson received the Presidents Award. A chapter jacket was presented to Greg Paulline for his service as chapter President. Ron Sebastian conducted the installation of officers. Members were reminded of the River Valley Car Show on July 25th, there is a need for Door Prizes so if you have any friends who have a business and can donate an item to the car show please ask them to assist. We will also be in need of volunteers to assist with the car show and a crew to help set up the area on Friday evening. Please contact Lyle Peterson or sign up at the next chapter meeting to assist with this important event. The rain date for the car show will be August 1st. The clover sales in Iowa City to support our service coordinators at the VA Hospital amounted to $2,269. The Region 6 meeting was held in Wisconsin and President Paulline attended, he shared that there was some discussion about the upcoming VVA National Convention and some of the issues that will be voted on during that meeting in Springfield IL. A list is being created for the annual June Clover Sales in the Iowa Quad Cities, Please sign up for a few hours at one of the locations. The list will be at the meeting. The member voted to donate $200 to Gary McDermott to assist him in his competition in the Warrior Games for injured veterans. The chapter also voted to assist a disabled veteran from the state of Florida so that he might attend a reunion of the unit he served with in Vietnam, that donation was also for $200. Before the meeting the chapter held its annual picnic and members brought a dish to share and everyone had more than enough to eat. The meeting was adjourned. Minutes submitted by John P.
