Minutes of August Membership Meeting!The meeting was called to
order by President Paulline at 1900 hours. Officers present,
Vice-president Lyle Peterson, Secretary, John Lavelle, Treasurer
Harold Hansen. Four Vietnam veteran guests were present at our
meeting, Tom Taylor, Dave Payne, Russ Conner, and Rolf Shave. We
learned of some of our members in distress, Clarke Barnes is doing
better, as is Denny Grey, Mike Martin and Al Kirk. Bruce Cheek was
at the meeting as well as Craig Norris. The minutes were approved
as published in the August newsletter. Larry Witt informed the
members that we now have a total of 190 members in the chapter.
Treasurer Hansen reviewed the chapter finances for the past month.
A motion was made by Ed Gaudet to pursue the organization of an
Agent Orange Town Hall Meeting by our chapter for the Quad City
area, the motion passed. Jim Owens has two nursing home visits
scheduled for the next month. Vettes on the River car show is set
for September 6 in LeClaire with participation of the honor guard
to take place at 10 a.m. The Seabee Spaghetti Dinner on September
13th will begin at 4:00 p.m. and the honor guard will present
colors there at 5:00 p.m. POW/MIA shirts will be available at the
dinner. There will also be shirts commemorating the 50th
Anniversary of the Vietnam for sale at the Spaghetti dinner at Post
26. The honor guard will present the colors at the West Liberty
Race Track on October 4th and also continues to be involved with
funerals. POW/MIA flag will be displayed at four Davenport high
schools during the week of 9/15 - 9/19. The chapter has purchased
these flags for Davenport Schools. The chapter will host the Region
6 VVA Meeting in Clinton IA at the Wild Rose Casino on November
7-8, dance tickets are available for $10, contact person is Ed
Gaudet. VVA President John Rowan will be a keynote speaker at the
meeting as well as John Margowski, Region 6 Director, and Lt. Gen.
Michael S. Tucker, commander First Army, has been invited to speak.
Motion made by Ed Gaudet to sponsor a team for the 9-Pin tournament
at Miller Time Bowling, the motion passed. Motion made by Ed Gaudet
to purchase 144 beer glasses with the chapter logo to sell at a few
local bars, the motion passed. As in the past the chapter will
provide a lunch for the Quad City Stand Down on September 20th at
the QC Expo Center, time to arrive to assist with this event is
10:00 a.m. The Chapter will host a Trivia Night and Costume Party
at the American Legion Post 26 in Davenport on October 24th.
Contact person for this event is Larry Witt. October 30th is the
next Honor Flight of the Quad Cities, there are 15 World War II
veterans on this flight and the guardians are Vietnam Veterans.
