    August Membership Meeting Minutes

    The meeting was called to order at 1900 hours by President Paulline with a pledge of allegiance

    moment of silence observed for POW/MIA and those still serving in harms way for our nation. O

    present Vice-President Granbois, Treasurer Morel, and Secretary Lavelle. Members went throu

    introduction period as is our practice and guests were introduced. Jerry Dikes BIX Chairman f

    Opening Ceremony presented the chapter with a framed photo of the front page of the Quad City

    commemorating the start of BIX 39, in which our honor guard took part. Members in distre

    month include Bill Pinault who was taken to Iowa City because of a serious infection, Craig Norr

    is still waiting on the list for a transplant, Jan Sebastian who had hie replacement surgery,

    Bredar who had knee replacement surgery, and Martha Lavelle who had surgery for a sha

    humerus. Our mail this month included a thank you from Cafe On Vine for a donation of hot d

    request from the Military Explorers for a donation to obtain drill weapons. The chapter will m

    donation not to exceed $250 based on the current needs of the Explorer Scouts. We heard fro

    VSOs concerning questions on how long accreditation exists for a VSO and where and when th

    attend classes for renewal of that accreditation. VVA accepts continuing education units for this pu

    Jason Kerr shared current unemployment numbers from the department of labor which indicate

    the population is now at 7.4% with veterans as a whole are at 7.3%, the veterans of the Global W

    Terror represent 9.9%. He also shared news related to government contracts and the hiring oveterans and the disabled, which creates an element of concern because those numbers req

    percentage of disabled that must be hired at rate of 7% and therefore they become labeled

    finance committee reminded members present that the final say on spending remains with the ch

    members and that their role is to recommend spending or to recommend not spending chapter m

    At the meeting some budget decisions of the finance committee were shared with the members

    these decisions were based upon our needs balanced against our ability to raise funds. The donat

    shoes for the homeless stand down this year will be reduced to $250. The years Thanksgivin

    Christmas baskets will be reduced to $500 total. The quarterly visits to the VA Hospital will be

    $150 per visit. A review of the expenses required for our support of the Humility of Mary Ho

    Shelter specifically for Veterans will be performed by Larry Witt. Roger Granbois has askmembers of the POW/MIA committee and all members of the chapter to email him with suggestio

    where and when to create an event for September 20th POW/MIA Recognition Day. The Incarc

    Veterans committee will be contacted by Ernest Ledtje during the month to host a meeting

    Peterson told the members of the Humility of Mary Shelter picnic that was held, and also about th

    National Guard picnic at the Rock Island Arsenal and that Bob Brooks and Andy Anderson w

    cooking for this event. Lyle also will be the chairperson for the Vietnam War 50 Year Commemo

    and that during the year 2015 through 2017 we will host two events per year. Art Heyderman wi

    the next VA Hospital visit on September 26th and all attending will meet at the Machine Shed a

    hours and they will leave at 0800 and return around 1230 hours. That same day there will be a

    gather in at the Red Lantern at 1800 hours, everyone who wished to attend should contact Art

    [email protected]. There will be a NAMI fund raiser that will involve a Trivia Night,

    interested contact Greg Paulline. Ideas were shared for new ways to raise funds for our chapte

    consisted of possible dinners, bringing back the 50/50 raffle at our meetings, to hosting a testim

    dinner. Bob Brooks informed the chapter that All Veterans Memorial will be selling Coupon Bo
