    Membership Minutes for July 2012

    The meeting was called to order by President Marolf at 1900 hours. Officers present Trea

    Harold Hansen, Secretary John Lavelle. The meeting began with a pledge of allegiance

    moment of silence for POW/MIA and for all those serving our country in harms way. W

    two individuals attending the meeting for the first time, Dr. Art Tate, and Susan Walker

    minutes were accepted as published in the July newsletter with the exception of the c

    information concerning a volunteer position for the VA Ride Coordinator position. That c

    person is Tammy McClaskey and her phone number is 1 319 339-7061. The financial con

    for the chapter was given to the members by Harold Hansen. The reading of ch

    communications provided members with information on the DMZ Dance on November

    this is a dance held in Maryland by Chapter 227 and is an annual event. Further inform

    can be found in the Veteran. Members in distress this month include Larry Witt. Larr

    surgery in Iowa City and is home resting. The chapter voted to provide Larry with $250 to

    him in his recovery process. The honor guard has again been involved with many funeral

    MAVA and Chapter 299. The chapter will take part in the BIX 7 again this year and will

    at the starting line at 0700 hours. Three members of the honor guard, John Lavelle,

    Paulline, and Jett Bork took part in the medals ceremony for Captain Ronald A. Ross o

    28th. NAMI Walk is October 6 at Centennial Park. The Trust Fund Honor G

    reimbursement for FY 13 has been reinstated and funerals need to be documented from J

    2012 until the filing of reimbursement form on June 30, 2013. The next VVA State C

    meeting could be held in Iowa City. The chapter has not had a delegate in attendance for th

    two meetings of the state council. On August 5th the chapter will help with the family picn

    The Iowa Army National Guard Unit A Co. 2/34 BSTB Engineers. Bob Brooks and

    Anderson of Chapter 299 have volunteered to cook for this event. The picnic will be h

    Credit Island and begins at 11:00 A.M. with serving of food to begin at 12:30. The honor

    will present colors at the River Valley Car Show at North Park Mall on August 25t

    chapter members will assist with a 50/50 Raffle. The finance committee is investi

    possibilities to assist the Valor Program by providing baskets for veterans who are beginni

    in new housing. Each basket will contain household products such as necessary cle

    materials to assist the veterans and their families in beginning their new lives. The fi

    committee is also looking for ways to help create a storage facility for these materials and

    items that will be needed by these families, including furniture and other household good

    option would be to join with another veteran organizations and lease a storage facility

    The National Guard Unit A Co. 2/34 BSTB Engineers, Davenport thanksChapter for providing meat, serving the food, and providing games at family picnic on August 5th at Credit Island. Chapter members who helpthe picnic were Arlen and Carolyn Beck, Mike and Sandy DeGeeterHeyderman, Marlene Marolf, Bob Whelove, Dave Woods, and Lyle and CaPeterson. Thanks also to Bob Brooks and Andy Anderson from Chapter 29doing the grilling. We support our troops and honor their service to America
