Its opening number, the peerless ten-minute opus Cold Little Heart evokes the haze of Pink Floyd in its unhurried slow-burn, whilst Falling is a soaring gospel number for the 21st century. There are standout tunes throughout, but really Love & Hate is an album that genuinely deserves to be listened to as one, littered as it is with 'headphones moments’ that require real attention to the light and shade of its creation.

In 2007 at the Scranton Jazz Festival, Scranton, PA three alumni of the Maynard Ferguson Big Bop Nouveau band performed together for the first time since their days traveling and playing on the road. Joel Frahm - saxophone, Marko Marcinko - drums and Ron Oswanski - Hammond B3 organ appeared as the opening act for the Grammy award winning Caribbean Jazz Project featuring Dave Samuels. Playing a few standards and originals, the trio's musical comradery and synergy was quite apparent. "I remember standing on the side of the stage and was mesmerized by the sound of the organ and drums. I was also intrigued with the flexibility of playing by the trio." Dave Samuels After hearing the trio, Dave contacted Marko and Ron and asked about getting this trio sound together with Vibraphone and Marimba. This turned into the Organik Vibe Trio's first independent 2011 release "Moscow". "Things We Did Last Summer", returns the trio back to its original core roots of sax, organ and drums. Oysterband has been one of the most consistently creative folk and rock bands of the past 38 years. Since their origins in 1977-1978 as the Oyster Ceilidh Band and their subsequent growth and constant development over the decades (sometimes wearing a more rock music mantle, sometimes a more folk/trad one), their musical vision has always burned bright. More than three years have passed since the release of „Tales Of The Weird” (2012) and so the time has come to celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary with the 7th studio album „Pangea” this summer. „I have never worked so hard and with so many emotions on an album like on Pangea” states the charismatic lead singer and mastermind Charly Steinhauer, who has spent the past 1,5 years to create this album. The background of „Pangea” is also marked by his setbacks, caused by several health impairments and private disappointments during the last years. That is how the longest album (60 min) in band history so far arose, produced by Charly Steinhauer himself! „Pangea” – the last supercontinent and a symbol for the beginning of the end of life on earth. Several scenarios (e.g. war, comet, plague, cataclysm, alien invavsion, etc.) may cause this situation which is the album’s quintessence. As a special anniversary surprise, Charly Steinhauer re-united the original line-up from the debut album „Product Of Imagination”, released in 1987, for the backing vocals on „Pangea”. Traditionally Claudio Bergamin (Halford, King Diamond), who was also responsible for the last three Paradox artworks, has once again created a fantastic cover artwork, which perfectly matches the album title. „Pangea” provides powerful riff attacks, great lead guitar work and Charly Steinhauer’s typical vocals in a remarkable intensity. Bands such as Sonata Arctica, Thunderstone, Hammerfall, Stratovarius, early Blind Guardian and Yngwie Malmsteen are the most noticeable influences of ASTRALION's sound. That means broad choruses, voluminous melodies, racing guitar attacks as well as subtle neo-progged 6-string interludes. Whilst the album's opener "Deathphone" is a steeply driven, whiplike hymne, "Black Adder" and "The Outlaw" are pure, melodic Speed Metal hammers to set the adrenalin flowing. "The Great Place Of The Sea" is a 10 minute long opus which reminds the listener somewhat of Alestorm, whilst "Sacrificed & Immortalized" stamps forwards with thrilling Malmsteenic solo parts. With "Wastelands Of Ice" the band recorded a semi-ballad in the style of the album's predecessor's track, "At The Edge Of The World" and as a song with a great melody will certainly be recognised as such. "Outlaw" has all the ingredients to make the discerning heavy metal fan smile with satisfaction. Without wishing to blow one's own trumpet, "Outlaw" has such superb, high quality song material that it already belongs in the top league of melodic Heavy Metal and is sure to become one of the real hightlights of the genre in 2016.

My meeting with Paul McCartney was a real pinch myself moment and recorded at the time of the 'Press to Play' album. As I expected a very genuine man with no problem with answering any questions. The Observers book of Birds.... growing up on Merseyside... is that where his interest in conservation began... nothing like the English countryside. Still rockin' and talking about The Princes Trust... at the time he did not have a band.... selecting musicians... enjoying Buddy Holly. Linda McCartney Talking about Suzie and the Red Stripes.. the soul of Reggae.. she was forced to play the piano.. Wings and playing Seaside Woman live. Bob Marley the one person she wanted to photograph... black and white photography she preferred why.... 'life' was her favourite subject to photograph... depth of people. What did she find boring? Was she private? Of all the people I spoke to over the years, Linda McCartney was probably the most inspiring, real and so generous.

In 1992 Walsh ran for vice president with Rev. Goat Carson under the slogan "We Want Our Money Back!" So, when, on Independence Day 1990, Joe was headlining the 8th annual Fountain Valley Fiesta, in Mile Square Park - a yearly six day event that culminated on 4th July with fireworks and concerts - he took the opportunity to remind those in attendance of his occasional political career, and indeed his 'If I Was The President Rap' reveals Joe's still somewhat eccentric pledges, ending with the repeated assurance that 'Life's Been Good' would become the NA, before launching into a sterling version of the classic tune.

The legend of the Pixies, initially, had only 8 years to mature and expand into a myth befitting, perhaps, a Pixies song. Formed in 1986, the years before the group's first break up in 1993 produced 4 albums and the aforementioned EP and that was about that. They were however still name-dropped by anyone and everyone, and such announcements would buffer the credentials of a thousand insufferable hipsters. But while a large chunk of that cultural cachet has eroded, there's still much to appreciate about them, and we are reminded of such when listening to the session presented on this CD. The interview at the end of the set is enlightening; we get to hear Kim mention that NPR (another local station) has been playing their crudely recorded first tape "a lot," Frank (or, as here, Charles) plugs an upcoming show with the Volcano Suns, and David, with his thick "Bahstun" accent, mentions that he grew up with "Nancy Sinatra and Mohtz-aht." The songs are delivered with a crudeness and verve attributable, probably, to a band that knew they were on the verge of something. Between late 1976 and 1978 Blackfoot toured as backing band to female vocalist Ruby Starr (formerly of Black Oak Arkansas) and they then signed to Atco Records and recorded their third album. Strikes was completed by January 1979 and became the band's most commercially successful effort. The song 'Train, Train,' written by Rickey's grandfather, "Shorty" Medlocke, became their first success and best known song. The group toured frequently during 1979 and they opened for The Who at the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan, while developing their next record, Tomcattin', released during 1980. They went on to release the album Marauder during 1981, Highway Song Live during 1982 and Siogo in 1983. Highlighting Blackfoot's changing sound during this period, these fascinating and hugely enjoyable performances, presented here in excellent audio quality, will delight fans of this long-standing and highly regarded rock outfit who, some 45 years after first coming together, continue to record and perform today

This set, recorded at Loew's Palace Concert Theater in Providence, Dec 14, 1973, a week prior to the classic live album recording, captures this moment in time when Reed was creating emotionally honest musical turbulence on stage. In retrospect, 1973 was a year of massive growth for Reed and certainly a critical step in his approach to live performing. Regardless of how the shows on this tour were perceived at the time, something important was clearly going on here. As we all now know, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers became one of the best live bands in America. The material performed here comes largely from what were his most recent three albums at the time, with classics like 'Tom Traubert's Blues' and 'Jitterbug Boy' rubbing shoulders with newer cuts like 'Red Shoes By The Drugstore.' A number of covers, including Gerswin's 'Summertime,' a delightful 'Do The Hokey Pokey,' and a haunting 'Since I Fell For You' - albeit one replete with a typical amusing Waits narrative inserted - make for a nice diversion from the records, but the show hangs together perfectly as only a Tom Waits performance can, with the songs and chat part of a silky smooth delivery (Waits even jokes "and I'm Perry Como" during band introductions) all at once making for much more than a mere "gig." In September 1980 Waits would release Heart attack & Vine, his final album for Asylum and one on which the material ventured closer to the primal-blues and cabaret territories he would fully adopt for 1983's Swordfishtrombones and its successors, by which time the barroom crooner of yore was pretty much gone for good and Tom Waits the experimental maverick mastermind had been born.

In 1976, "music filmmaker" Robert Mugge created his first music-related film. Titled GEORGE CRUMB: VOICE OF THE WHALE, it was this dazzling, 54-minute portrait of Pulitzer Prize-winning and Grammy-winning composer George Crumb. The film was funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and makes innovative use of color and a dialectical structure to reveal Crumb's life (green-tinted-footage), his work (blue-tinted footage, and connections between the two (full-color footage). Included in the film are a performance of Crumb's 1971 composition, "Vox Balaenae for Three Masked Players"; samples of the rural, West Virginia gospel music that has influenced him; demonstrations by Crumb of exotic instruments and unusual effects that figure in his compositions; and scenes from his home and university teaching environments. At his home, Crumb discusses his compositional techniques with fellow composer Richard Wernick, and his musician wife Elizabeth discusses their life together; at the university, Wernick's Penn Contemporary players (Carole Morgan, Lambert Orkis, and Barbara Haffner) perform "Vox Balaenae." Words frequently used to describe George Crumb's work are "poetic, atmospheric, mysterious, evocative." He himself has said, "I feel intuitively that music must have been the first cell from which language, science, and religion originated." Klaus Schulze remebers „Dziekuje Poland“: In 1983 Poland was still behind the iron curtain but to get permission to perform concerts there was quite easy because I was playing instrumental music. Had I written songs with lyrics, they probably wouldn’t have let us come into the country. So we accepted thje invitation made by the polish promoter. We never had any problems with guys from national security there, although we may have tempted fate when we played in Gdansk. We performed there in the same venue where Lech Walesa (leader of the opposition union Solidarnosc) had given a speech the day before and Rainer and I went on stage on stage and made the V for victory sign. This wasn’t at all politically motivated, it was meant to be a sign for love & peace. Nevertheless they edited out the photo with of us with th V-sign in the polish edition of “Dziekuje Poland”. Before the concert, Rainer said to me, “Let me start at the piano alone!” I thought, sure, why not? He went on and played the Polish national anthem and the audience went wild!

Klaus Schulze: “The whole series was a very unpretentious project. Because I had always kept total control with my own albums, I let Pete take it off my hands and could make compromises. That was juicy for me, ‘cause I don’t work with other electronic musicians usually. It was a total different chemistry compared to say Manuel Goettsching, who I understand completely. From that point of view it was a real challenge. I never could work with somebody like me, I’d rather do it on my own. The few people I have worked with, like Rainer Bloss, had to have strong egos to prevent themselves being dominated by me. Namlook once said, my music was often too emotional from his point of view. Namlook is much more rational than me, that’s why I always kidded him with the nickname ‘the banker’ – but this oppositional aspect made it exciting for me. I need people who work contrari-wise. Work on ‘Dark Side Of The Moog’ started without any solid intention and wasn’t planned as a series at all. There was only the aim that it didn’t sound like ‘Schulze’ only, so I decided that Namlook had to make the final mix.” The influence Namlook had on Klaus’s music in the middle of the nineties should not be taken lightly, because although Klaus dearly loved those early-analogue elements from his own music, they had become, to an extent, lost. It was Pete who fortified him to go back to the analogue charm of his early albums and it was Pete who supported him in the modification of his analogue instruments, leading finally to the epoch-making Schulze album from 1996 - “Are You Sequenced?”

The history of LONEWOLF, hailing from Grenoble (France), began back in 1992. They played true heavy metal since the very beginning and soon released several demo tapes as well as a 7'' and recorded even an album, which unfortunately never got released and is referred to as "the lost album". Following a bad experience with a French label, LONEWOLF split up in 1996. They came back in 2000, along with the demo "March Into The Arena", which was re-released as the band's debut album via Goi Music in 2002. The second album "Unholy Paradise" followed two years later. "Made In Hell" was released in 2008 via Eat Metal, followed by "The Dark Crusade" in 2009 (via Kathargo Records/Killer Metal Records). Other official studio albums are "Army Of The Damned" (2012, Napalm Records), "The Fourth And Final Horseman" (2013, Napalm Records) and "The Cult Of Steel" (2014, Massacre Records). Holger Czukay's first post-Can solo album finds the bass player exploring prog rock jams with varied instrumentation, song-oriented lyrics, and media samples from film, television, and short-wave. It was the samples that put Czukay in the same category as David Byrne and Brian Eno: an art rocker exploring the early days concurrently with early hip-hop pioneers (or alternately, a white man exploiting the culture of the third world, depending on who you read).
