    II CHRONICLES 20: 1-4 (NRSV)

1 After this the Moabites and Ammonites, andwith them some of the Meunites, came againstJehoshaphat for battle. 2 Messengers came andtold Jehoshaphat, "A great multitude is comingagainst you from Edom, from beyond the sea;already they are at Hazazon-tamar" (that is, En-gedi). 3 Jehoshaphat was afraid; he set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fastthroughout all Judah. 4 Judah assembled toseek help from the LORD; from all the townsof Judah they came to seek the LORD.

    --------------------------11:00 a.m.

    II CHRONICLES 20: 5-12 (NRSV)

5 Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judahand Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD,before the new court, 6 and said, "O LORD,God of our ancestors, are you not God in heav-en? Do you not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? In your hand are power and might,so that no one is able to withstand you.7 Did you not, O our God, drive out the inhabi-tants of this land before your people Israel, andgive it forever to the descendants of your friendAbraham? 8 They have lived in it, and in ithave built you a sanctuary for your name, say-ing, 9 'If disaster comes upon us, the sword,

judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we willstand before this house, and before you, foryour name is in this house, and cry to you inour distress, and you will hear and save.'10 See now, the people of Ammon, Moab, and

Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israelinvade when they came from the land of Egypt, and whom they avoided and did not destroy--11 they reward us by coming to drive us out of your possession that you have given us toinherit. 12 O our God, will you not execute

judgment upon them? For we are powerlessagainst this great multitude that is comingagainst us. We do not know what to do, but oureyes are on you."

    --------------------------6:00 p.m.

    II CHRONICLES 20:13-17 (NRSV)

13 Meanwhile all Judah stood before theLORD, with their little ones, their wives, andtheir children. 14 Then the spirit of the LORDcame upon Jahaziel son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, aLevite of the sons of Asaph, in the middle of the assembly. 15 He said, "Listen, all Judah and

inhabitants of Jerusalem, and KingJehoshaphat: Thus says the LORD to you: 'Donot fear or be dismayed at this great multitude;for the battle is not yours but God's.16 Tomorrow go down against them; they willcome up by the ascent of Ziz; you will findthem at the end of the valley, before the wilder-ness of Jeruel. 17 This battle is not for you tofight; take your position, stand still, and see thevictory of the LORD on your behalf, O Judahand Jerusalem.' Do not fear or be dismayed;tomorrow go out against them, and the LORDwill be with you."

    P A S T O R S P A G EContrary to the illusion of this

being the bourgeois church, the middle classchurch, the rich church and the Whos Whoin Chicago church, our church has been ableto do the impossible through the sacrificesand gifts of 8000 ordinary people. Only4000 of our members, incidentally, made acommit-ment to the new worship center; butwe did it anyhow!

Over 1000 members of this congrega-tion are unemployed. Over 2000 members of this congregation make under $30,000 a year.Everybody cannot give the same thing. Wehave said that for 33 years. Everybody cangive s ome thing, however, and it is because of everybody giving something that we nowstand on the precipice of victory! As I indicated to you, we borrowed the last$300,000 from our savings account to pay off the mortgage. I am asking you to join with me

in putting that money back into savings. Wecan do it and we will do it.

Thank you for your faithfulness and thank you for your support of my ministry.

    Gratefully yours,

    Pastor Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr.

Earlier this year, the Illinois State legisla-ture provided funds to the Chicago Transit Authoritywhich prevented CTA from raising fares and elimi-nating routes. However, the CTA board has nowrecently decided to double its fares for Para-transitcustomers to $3.50 per ride.

Consider who this decision is affecting.According to the 2004 Paratransit CustomerSatisfaction Survey of all of the Paratransit cus-tomers:

81.7% have an annual household income of $20,000

69.9% have incomes less than $15,000 47.6% have incomes less than $10,000 16.1% exist on incomes less than $5000 77.8% have no household vehicle 58.4% are 65 years or older 80% are African American 43% live on the south side of Chicago

Many of those who use the Paratransit serv-ices are on fixed Supplemental Security Incomes(SSI) of approximately $600 per month. Out of this$600 per month, they must pay rent, utilities, pur-chase food and utilize the transit services. To doublethe fares of persons already living on a tight budgetwill painfully and adversely affect persons trying tomake it day by day.

On Monday, November 28, 2005, theChicago City Council Transportation Committee willbe hosting a hearing on CTAs 2006 Budget andFare Hike. The hearing will be held at City CouncilChambers at 121 N. LaSalle at 9:30 a.m. I encourageyou to attend this hearing and let your voice be heardwith regard to this issue.

ACTION ITEMS1. Attend the Transportation Committees hearing on

CTAs budget and fare hikes tomorrow.2. BOYCOTT WAL-MART & SAMS CLUB

    BIRDS OF A FEATHER

All birds, and only birds, have feath-ers, which are a wonderful gift from God.They are useful in many different ways.Feathers keep birds warm in freezing coldweather. Feathers are a soft lining in manybirds nests. The songs of some birds aremade louder by a ruffle of feathers. The

structure and lightness of feathers enablemost birds to fly. The list goes on.

All people, and only people, havestewardship, which is another wonderful giftfrom God. It can be helpful in many differentways. People may contribute to a fuel fundthat helps keep people warm. People maygive blankets to the homeless so they have asofter place to sleep. People may purchase arecording of church services so that shut-inscan hear them. People donate money thatenables missionaries to fly to distant lands.

    The list goes on.

Two gifts, on the surface so differentfrom each other, yet with Gods help, theyboth do so much good. Birds cannot think of new ways to use their feathers because theyare controlled by instinct. God has given peo-ple reason, so we can think of new ways touse time, talents and treasure to help others.
